I will open this review by saying, I wish I'd done better due diligence on Ace, had I done so, I…read morenever would have hired them, so partially my fault for having a bad experience. I'm giving Ace Home Remodeling two stars instead of one because although the job was late and over budget in the end, I have an acceptable finished product. I'm giving this rating for three reasons. 1. Upon signing my contract with Ace we were directed to make a check out to Crash Crew LLC "for permits". When my permits were issued, I learned that a person I'd never met held the notice of commencement on my project, not Ace Home Remodeling. 2. On at least two occasions, the owner of Ace Remodeling informed us that her project manager was not cut out for remodeling work and was used to doing new construction. Everything I've been taught in business is to not bad mouth my employees to their clients. Needless to say, we were very unhappy with the project manager (failed to communicate to us, trades would show up at all hours of the day and evening unannounced, numerous errors made, low quality, etc) and so we asked that he be removed from our project. While this was initially agreed to towards the end, the owner brought him to our home on a Sunday morning, (we'd explicitly stated the project manager was not welcome at our job site) and were told - my business, my rules - IN OUR OWN HOME. Beyond unprofessional to me. 3. Work quality and re-work. Numerous measurement errors, causing the electrical and plumbing to have to be moved two and three times. Drywall seams meeting with no stud behind causing drywall cracking, walls built out of square and plumb. Shower pan failed inspection twice due to slope issues. Spot repairs to floor leveling causing uneven floors. No dimensioned drawings, and even then, when we together made site drawings, there were still multiple questions raised about the same topic. As I said, while many of these issues eventually got resolved, the amount of involvement from us as home owners was unacceptable. Because of the permitting issue above, we had to get an attorney involved to draw up a lien release (which Ace initially refused to sign) so that we could then file a Notice of Termination of the Notice of Commencement in order to protect our deed from someone who we had never met, nor had a contract with. It's really a shame because some of the tradespeople who worked on our job performed very good work.

The sales lady, Victoria, took time to go over the selection with us and was very friendly. He sent subcontractors, Superficially, the tile in the living room was straight, but there is white mortar peeking up through the brown grout in many places. We pointed that out to him while his people were preparing to grout and his honest estimation is that "They're old men with bad habits, and it is just as good a job as you can ask of any tile company." They splashed grout up every wall in the living room and kitchen and onto all my newly installed kitchen cabinets. We cleaned the cabinets just fine, but the grout had to be cleaned off the walls and repainted. Moving on to the bathroom. The shower floor has blue grout, yes, you guessed it, white mortar is peeking up through the grout everywhere, We had to clean the blue grout off of the shower floor tiles, and there is white mortar as high as the top of the tile all over the shower floor. Now we must find a different tile installer to rip out the shower floor Ben Trento's subcontractors installed and redo our shower. Additionally they set the drain crooked, not a big deal, except it is obviously crooked, and Mr, Trento tried to convince us that we don't know how to measure and it isn't really crooked. Stating maybe it is off by less than 1/16th inch. I would recommend that if Ben Trento is going to do the job, sure hire him to do your job, he is knowledgeable. If he sends over subcontractors, then don't let them into your home unless you want to redo the job through another contractor. So now that we have discussed the Service, and the Quality, Let's look at value. Ben Trento is not a cheaper than others option. His pricing is at the higher end of the scale. He also overestimates a bit, since I returned nine boxes living room tile 10 bags of mortar three boded of bathroom wall tiles. The only reason I mention this is that you are paying for the ESTIMATE. When the contractor estimates additional square footage, you are paying a bonus to that contractor for work and materials that are never delivered.
