I lived in Lubbock, Texas for for a few years. The best things I remember:…read more- people were friendly and polite - store sales were fantastic! - The Goodwill Outlet/Pound Clearance- yes, Goodwill has an outlet. You gotta dig through piles though. - restaurant food portions were huge! Hubby and I could share a plate - BBQ: juicy, fall off the bone, with a pink ring from being smoked, and a little bit of char. - large, affordable housing with large yards - lots of job opportunities. Many people in the medical field were moving to Texas for jobs. The worst: - lack of snow/ice management. It was dangerous driving after a snow/ice storm I enjoyed living in Lubbock, Texas. I would love to return.

I had my first michelada and chile verde in Texas. I visited some beautiful vineyards while visiting my sorority sister in Georgetown, TX and enjoyed Great Van Fleet and Paul McCarney at Austin City Limits. I saw Kid Rock at least one at the outdoor venue near the Woodlands. And yes, everything is bigger in Texas! Bigger hairdos because "the bigger the hair, the closer to God!" Vehicles are bigger, think F-550 pickups everywhere! When I think of Texas I do think of the two step, guns, oil, and world class BBQ (different from Alabama). The first frozen margarita machine was invented in Dallas. Dr Pepper (note, there is no period at "Dr") was invented in the late 1800s in Waco, Texas. The State Fair of Texas boasts the largest Ferris wheel in North America. It's also the largest and longest-running state fair in the country. Established in 1886, the State Fair of Texas takes place every fall in Dallas and lasts 24 days with typically, 2 million visitors every year. In Austin between March and October, you can catch a glimpse of the South Congress Avenue Bridge bats, the largest urban colony of bats in the world. Around sunset, the city's 1.5 million bats take off into the night. Austin Texas also has more live-music venues per capita compared to any other state in the United States and the world. Clocking in at 85 mph the state of Texas also holds the record for the fastest speed limit in the US. Enforced along Texas State Highway 130 or the Pickle Parkway, it beats the highest speed limit of any other state. The word "Texas" means friendship, it came from the Caddo Indian word that means "allies" or "friends." Thanks, Texas! Thanks, Austin for always "keeping it weird!" I can't wait to visit Texas again, next bluebell season!

I don't often write reviews for government offices, but the staff at the Texas Department of Public…read moreSafety in Plano absolutely deserve one. My appointment was scheduled for 1:20 p.m., and through pure operator error (completely my fault), I accidentally went to the wrong location. I had went to the Texas department of transportation. Then I drove to McKinney location only to realize my appointment wasn't there either it was in Plano, about 30 minutes away. Talk about panic mode! I had been waiting for this appointment since last August and thought I had completely blown it. By the time I arrived in Plano, I was late, stressed, desperately needed a restroom, and was convinced I'd be marked as a no-show. That's when I met Ms. Mona. She greeted me with kindness, directed me to the kiosk, and when my ticket showed "No Show," she didn't just send me away. She calmly suggested I speak with the representative at the window because they might still be able to work me in, even though they were very busy. That little bit of encouragement gave me hope. Then I met Ms. Esther, and she was nothing short of an angel. Everything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong. My utility bill had the wrong address, so I had to email new proof of residency. I realized my vehicle registration was still in my car, so I had to run back outside to get it. Then I needed my veteran's proof of service...another trip to the car. I was definitely getting my steps in that afternoon! To top it all off, I accidentally emailed my documents to the wrong email address because I forgot part of the address and even misspelled "department." I was rushing, overwhelmed, and honestly on the verge of a panic attack. Through every bit of it, Ms. Esther never once acted frustrated. No eye rolls. No impatience. No attitude. She was patient, professional, encouraging, and genuinely kind. She gave me until 2:40 p.m. to get everything submitted, and thanks to her grace, I finally got checked in at 2:49 p.m. My number was called at 3:28 p.m., and I walked out with my new Texas driver's license at 4:09 p.m. Looking back, every single problem that day was my own doing. Had I slowed down, double-checked the address, and organized my paperwork before leaving home, the appointment would have been smooth. But instead of making me feel worse, the staff treated me with compassion and respect. The facility itself was clean, with plenty of parking, clean restrooms, ample seating, and friendly employees throughout the building. Thank you, Ms. Mona, for giving me hope when I thought I'd lost my appointment. Thank you, Ms. Esther, for your patience, your professionalism, and your kindness. You probably don't realize it, but you saved me from a panic attack, a migraine, and a whole lot of tears that afternoon. Customer service like yours deserves to be recognized. Thank you for turning one of the most stressful days into one I'll actually remember with gratitude

It's been a long time since I had to go in person to the Department of Public Safety for a license…read morerenewal, but lucky me, this was my year. When I got my notification, I learned they now operate on an appointment system. I made my appointment and the next available was one almost one month away. Today was my day... An appointment I was dreading could not have gone smoother. I checked in 30 minutes prior to my appointment (the maximum allowed). I didn't exactly clock how long it took me, but I was in and out and back on the road well before my scheduled appointment time and the person I worked with could not have been more pleasant!

Sure its not fun to go and stand in line to get your plates, registration or other government related business done, but you have to sometimes. The great thing about this place is, they seem to move people along pretty quickly and get you in/out and back on your way. Think "under 20 min" type of fast! Also, the times I've been here, I've never seen any of the employees just standing around, not helping, while one window is open...and everyone is just STARING and the lazy employees standing around (looking at you post office). No..instead you have several windows open of people who are happy to help you with whatever process you need, and friendly enough to engage in conversation distracting enough to make the time fly by. Props to whoever is hiring and training these government workers. Tip: do be sure to bring in all your documents including vehicle insurance if you're getting a new registration sticker. Also don't forget this is a government building so leave those kids and firearms in the car! Overall, I don't dread going to this place because I know I'll be out quickly and I won't wait in line for an ungodly amount of time. Enjoy!
