After diagnosing the issue, they told me that a piece of weatherstripping around the sunroof had come loose, allowing water to leak into the car. The moisture had begun corroding the wiring connection for the rear passenger light. Whenever that light flickered or went out, it caused a chain reaction that affected other features, including the auto wipers. The dealership's proposed solution was extreme: they recommended replacing the wiring harness and light assembly, installing new weatherstripping, and even putting in a brand-new headliner. Their estimate? Just over $6,000 before tax. Thankfully, I decided to get a second opinion and brought my SUV to Addison Body Shop and Glass. The owner, Mike, took a careful look and immediately reassured me that most of the dealership's recommendations were unnecessary. Instead of replacing parts, he reattached the weatherstripping, cleaned the light and its connections, and carefully treated the minor water stains on the headliner. By the time he was finished, everything was working perfectly--and the headliner looks spotless. The difference in cost was night and day. Addison charged me only a fraction of the dealership's quote, and the work was completed quickly and professionally. Mike was upfront, honest, and clearly more interested in fixing the actual problem than in padding the bill with unnecessary replacements. I left feeling relieved and extremely grateful. I have been taking my vehicles to Haraldsen's for years, but I will never be back again. For years…read morenow it's always bothered me that they charge to diagnose a problem and give a quote. Jeff always says, "well we've got an hour into it already so... it's $120 in labor at this point." I kept going though because it was so convenient that I could drop my car off and walk home. Today was the final straw. My wife's SUV, which has 195K miles on it had an axle break at the ball joint and caliper arm. I could see that immediately when I looked at it for 10 seconds. I had it towed to Haraldsen's and gave Jeff a heads up that it was coming. I told him that I'm assuming it's an expensive fix and not worth it on this vehicle... we will probably shop for a new one. I made it clear I don't want to put any money into this car anymore. I asked him if while it's there if he can take a quick peek just to confirm that it will be more than just a few hundred bucks. He informed me it would be around $700 minimum but could be more if they put it up on the lift and really dive into it. I said, "Nope. Don't even bother." To which he said, "ok then!" The next day he tells my wife that he has to charge us 1/2 an hour labor to take a look. $60 for what I diagnosed in 10 seconds! Thanks a lot for helping out what used to be a loyal customer. I called and explained to Jeff my displeasure with this charge to which he said was justified because they had to jack the car up with a hand jack and move it in their lot so the plow could get through with snow on the way. I told Jeff to send me a bill for the $60 and I will pay it and then that will be the last time we ever do business again. We won't be coming back.
