This review is based on conversations with a few of their employees. Service was not done at the present time, however had I chose to do so, I would be happy as this review is. (First time customer) Stopped in last week as someone decided to cut off catalytic converter on my vehicle and I was in need of a place that serviced that particular need as the shop I used to go to is a Muffler shop only but way into the city of Chicago. From the first meeting with Mark to setting up a time and day to get my vehicle on, to the call and explanation of parts and prices today, and the good old honesty from when picking up the vehicle today was something I have not witnessed or seen in years coming from an automotive shop. Nathan was very courteous and respectful to me regarding the issue and my few options to get the converter fixed. I like that he treated me with respect and understood my decision in not wanting to fix the vehicle at the time do to the price for the stupidity of someone stealing it. The shop was busy and I did have to wait a few days to get the car in but nonetheless, even if I chose not to do business with them at the time, they appreciated ME, the customer for giving them a chance to look at the car and still did not charge for the diagnosis after the fact. In the end of the conversation, Dave had recommended another shop locally that may be able to help, however I told him I chose them over his recommendation which I did have an option to go to as well based on the reviews read on here. I used to go to Route 64 auto all the time but started having problems with some of their work. After they replaced my radiator twice within 2 years I was having the same leaking coolant issues. I brought my truck to Mike over at Nofsingers and he quickly pointed out that the issue was the side of radiator was rubbing into a bracket that needed to be trimmed down otherwise, I was going to continue to have issues. He trimmed the bracket and replaced the radiator, and I haven't had any problems since. He also recently checked some front-end components for me that my friend had replaced and gave me honest advice on what I needed to do which solved my problem. I can say that I think I have found my new shop! Thanks again guys for being up front and honest. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone/everyone. Cant say how much I really appreciate it. I've written a review in the past that was also positive. I've been back a few times for brakes, shocks and a broken air conditioner for the three cars in my family. I'm little late, but wanted to write about the broken a/c because the service and results really exceeded my expectations. It turns out it was an inexpensive sensor, but the mechanic had to take my dashboard apart to replace it. Now the air works great, the dash looks great and it was cheap. They tell you what's wrong, nothing more, and fix it properly and timely. This really is a well run shop with friendly staff. The owner has created a great culture at his business. read more

Nothing but good things to say about these guys. I had my car towed in after it was recovered from getting stolen and they worked with my insurance company to try to not have them total it out. Unfortunately the car did get totaled out and during the process of me finding a new car david looked at a car that I was interested in and gave me an honest evaluation. It's funny/sad writing this review now because a couple weeks later, my car was totaled in a 5 car accident from behind. Long story but a lady hit another car, flipped onto her driverside door and slide into 3 cars (mine being the worst of it) as we sat at a red left arrow. Anyhow, I went in to have my exhaust fixed on my poor Nissan Juke. RIP They were able to squeeze me in and reattach it instead of me having to completely replace it. The owner was friendly and great to chat with about Yelp and other small talk. I live in West Chicago and looked for great reviews on Yelp and stumbled upon them! It was a drive, but worth it. Currently looking for another Juke to drive to replace my poor car, when I do get another one, I will go back to them if ever in the neighborhood. ....i bet that weld held even with the accident read more

Take it from a small business owner & CRM specialist... this is our families new, and probably lifelong, mechanic. My wife got a quote for some maintenance repairs on her Beetle SOMEWHERE ELSE first fully expecting the 'here's a woman by herself, we can sell her anything' treatment. She came home (after being told, of course, this all has to be done right now) with a laundry list of things that added up to over $1k. We decided to shop around and took it here. The team at Nofsinger's went line by line telling her which things she actually needed, which were necessary, which would be needed at some point... and which were just plain money grabs. She got the repairs she needed for under $400 OTD and a schedule of what would be needed in the near future. So I decided to test them myself a bit (must be the engineer's mindset in me). Dropped mine off for an oil change and brake inspection. I already knew exactly what was needed and what a fair price range would be. They called with the quote and nailed it... both work to be done and the pricing. I even set them up asking if I should have some fluids flushed since it's near 100k miles and never have. The tech chuckled a bit and said '(since there are no signs of leaks, wear or damage) all you'd really be flushing is your money.' Honesty, after my entrapment attempt? A mechanic choosing long-term customer satisfaction over a couple extra $'s in the short-term? Yup...we'll happily be back. read more

First of all, it's a huge stress relief to have a mechanic you can trust. If there's a place my family can have their cars serviced and NEVER worry about anything in regards to our vehicles (from fair pricing to quality work and stellar customer service), it's to bring that car to Nofsinger's. NO ONE does the job as well. NO ONE. Not the dealership, not the shop that claims your neighbors love them, not the place that toots their own horn and simply doesn't deliver. Nofsinger's is helpful and humble from the second you make that call, until you pay the bill for an auto that's running spectacularly better since you brought it in to Mark and his team. I never go anywhere else and never have to. It's also a testament to Nofsinger's quality, when my family brings our car to Cassidy for tires and Glenbard Auto Body for body work, and we're commended for taking good care of our car and that Nofsinger's quality is substantiated. We went to Nofsingers a few times. They were to change our oil during one visit and didn't - we checked and it wasn't done. Mark, the owner, refused to acknowledge. Also, had issue with aligning tires, once again he wouldn't acknowledge a problem. We had to go to another mechanic to have the alignment done properly. Mark had good employees years ago, but I don't think that is the case now. Honestly, if you don't know enough about cars, my father and husband do, you may never know that he is ripping you off. Update after Mark's response: No, Mark, you charged us for an oil change. My father called and spoke with you and you said you did it. Oil was filthy. Same with other issues. We talked to you and never acknowledged problems. We've moved on. read more

It's been over 2 years since my original review, and I feel that's too long to go without shouting the praises of the best business in Lombard, in Illinois, and most likely, THE WORLD. I love that they actually READ and respond to the reviews here. I love that all I have to do is call and if Mark answers, I mention the word Girlspawn and he immediately knows who I am. I love that they fix the problem quickly. I love that they're pleasant on the phone instead of gruff and hurried. I love them so much that I (almost) love handing over that credit card when it's time to pay the bill. Bottom line - the wondrous magic of this business is something that has become harder and harder to find these days: honest work at a fair price. That's it folks, and they get it right, every single time. While they've mostly serviced Girlspawn's car, they had fixed the mister's beloved car before it was cruelly taken from us in an accident that totaled it. I don't want to curse myself here, but my car's warranty just ran out, and the mister's replacement car will need something eventually. It's good to know that I've got the bases covered should the need ever arise. It's easy to impress me once. It's hard to KEEP me impressed. Seriously. Mark and Carol, thank you. **I am rating this company on their customer service skills over the phone.** Backstory: My Nissan Altima will initially start but after the engine warms up and I shut the car off it will not start up again until after it sits for a period of time. This has happened to me twice - after the second time, I took the car straight to Advance Auto Parts so it could be hooked up to their machine and the diagnostic code indicated that my Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS) was the culprit. Since my longtime mechanic has left the business I had no choice but to find a new mechanic. I did my homework and came across the great reviews for Nofsinger's. After reading the YELP reviews I had a favorable impression of Nofsinger's, which led me to call them about fixing my car. However, when I called them to get an estimate -- it was a different story. I called to find out what it might cost (a range) to replace the CPS. I was told that they could not even begin to give me an estimate until it was hooked up to their own machine in order to find out what the problem(s) could be. Not one to give up, I asked him to give me an estimate based upon a hypothetical ... if they hooked my car up to their machine and found out it was the Camshaft Position Sensor ... how much would it cost (including labor) to replace the CPS? Again, he refused. Maybe this is just the way things are done these days, but I am surprised at the steadfast refusal since their repair shop was rated by Consumers' Checkbook (for subscribers) and reads: "Along with information on repair shop quality, our Ratings Tables report our price index score for each shop that was evaluated in our last full, published article. To calculate these scores, our researchers (without revealing their affiliation with CHECKBOOK) called shops for prices on specific repairs. Table 1 illustrates the range of prices we found. For many repairs, some shops charged twice as much as nearby competitors." The unfortunate thing is I have no confidence in the car so it isn't feasible for me to drive the car from repair shop to repair shop to get estimates when I can call a repair shop on the phone! Clearly, Nofsinger's must not be hurting for business since they can afford to turn away potential customers that don't work within their guidelines. I'll give my business to a shop in my own neighborhood, one that is willing to listen and accommodate (a not so unusual) request from a customer. read more

I gotta give Nofsinger's some much-deserved credit. Here's the scenario: husband's car is 8 years old. It's approaching 100k miles. Check engine light comes on. Local auto-supply store pulls the code, and it's something related to the exhaust system -- could be an O2 sensor ($$), a leaky pipe ($$$) or a bad catalytic converter ($$$$). Since he'd been told the front pipe was starting to rust previously, he called a few places to see what they might price that at. He was worried that even diagnosing the exact problem might prove pricy. Nofsinger's prefers not to give estimates over the phone, which I can totally understand. They went on to tell him two things: a) they'd diagnose the exact problem for free and give an estimate then; b) given the exact code, he really didn't need to worry about it right now, unless he had an emissions test coming up. (He doesn't.) So basically they told him NOT to come in and spend lots of money. Which seems incredibly rare for an auto repair shop. Gotta respect that. read more

I stopped by Nofsinger's since I had seen such great reviews on here. My 2008 Ford Escape XLT had been making a really strange noise in the rear tires at slow speeds and lots of vibration at higher speeds. They took time to check out my issue right away, one of their mechanics (Mike) drove the car with me, and he diagnosed the issue within 5 or 10 minutes. The TPMS wheel sensor had broken loose inside of the tire, which explained the strange noise while driving slowly and since it weighs a few ounces, that was enough to throw off the tire's balance causing the vibration. Mike popped the tire off the rim, removed the sensor, cleaned the tire up inside and resealed the tire bead all within 30 minutes. No more vibration, no weird noises, nothing. Awesome! Extremely professional service from top to bottom. Will be coming here for all my vehicle service from now on. read more

I've been going there for YEARS! Even after I moved to the city I still take my car there when it's running a bit funny (and so does my sister). All the guys are nice and really knowledgeable and can tell me the most economical way to fix my POS 98 VW. Best of all, I don't get that icky "I'm being taken" feeling when they work on my car -- it feels much more like I've got my gear-head friend fixing it and I'm tossing a couple bucks his way for his time and trouble. That's pretty much as good as it gets! What prompted my review: I stopped in yesterday after borrowing my father's car (some jerk hit me so mine's in a body shop). His break warning light went on which I'll admit, worried me quite a bit. Thank goodness I was near Nofsinger's! When I got there Mark and Dave took a look at it right away. It looked like the break fluid was just low and when they realized were out of the break fluid type my vehicle needed, Dave ran out and got it right away. It was amazing - I think I was there all of 10 minutes! The car was fixed, we ruled out some serious problems and I was back on the road. Thank you guys!! read more

I found Nofsinger's on Yelp when I tried to find a good mechanic for my mom's car. She needed her brakes to be changed and knowing how much the dealer would charge, I advised her to go to a local mechanic. When I saw that Nofsinger's has 5-star rating, I almost couldn't believe my eyes. WHAT MECHANIC HAS 5-STARS??? What do they do to get that rating? And so I got my mom's car in and they saved her at least $150 from going in to the dealer. I then decided to get my oil change there and it's $10 cheaper than the dealer's price. Since then, I have referred my brothers, my husband, and my friend to go there. I love talking to Mark and his mechanics were also very helpful and honest. We love them! Last winter, my husband got new tires from CostCo. When we drove back home, we noticed that there was a clacking sound from the front passenger tire. We took it back to CostCo but they told us they had nothing to do with it, it's not their fault, and they are not allowed to do mechanic works. GREAT. Of course it is your fault, silly, the tire doesn't make that sound until you replaced it with the new one. Feeling upset, I called Nofsinger's and tried to explain it on the phone, but ended up bringing it in. A very good decision, it was! One of the mechanics, Paul (if I'm not mistaken), tried driving the car with my husband and immediately he could hear it too. It took him probably less than 15 minutes to figure out what's wrong, fix it, and when we were going to pay, he said, "You don't owe me anything." CRAZY! They are DA BOMB. We were very grateful. Nofsinger's, I thank you for your existence! Thank you for your honesty and awesome customer service. Thank you for driving us to Starbucks while waiting for our car. We're a one-car household, so when our car needed to be serviced last week, my husband thought he'd drop it off and then come home on the train. To his surprise, THEY DROVE HIM HOME! Maybe all that city dwelling made me cynical, but my jaw actually dropped open when I heard this. Who does such a thing? Paul checked out everything we asked about, even the really ridiculous, I-obviously-know-nothing-about-cars stuff. He explained the work he did in meticulous detail. Had Rack & Pinion (power assisted steering) of my 1994 Acura Vigor replaced to fix a problem with wheel turning at low speeds. Mark Nofsinger and David Steed (mechanic) very quickly diagnosed the problem and gave a very competitive quote in about 15 min, which made the 30 mile (to & fro) ride totally worth it. Moreover, they were able to schedule me for next day, get a remanufactured part and get the job done within a day. They were at least 30 % cheaper than another quote I got from a local shop in Naperville. They really delighted me by doing a free recharge on my AC and a car wash (with a nice wax job). I would definately go back to them again and would reccomend them to my friends. Found them through Angie's list (a paid service) but I think every one on Yelp should know about them. read more

I drive a 15 year old Honda Accord with over 200,000 miles on it. It's an awesome car, but at this age, it needs some love and maintenance. We just moved to the suburbs from the city, and I was hoping to find an honest, reliable, skilled auto shop like we had in Chicago (I also love Reliable Auto in Lakeview!) Well, thank goodness we found Nofsinger's. I first took my Accord to the dealership, which I won't do again. They always freak me out by giving me a list of completely urgent and life threatening repairs, which will cost thousands more than the car is even worth. I love Nofsinger's because they are HONEST, reliable, skillful, and respectful. As a female, it's awesome that I always feel like they are doing what needs to be done, and they aren't trying to sell me a bunch of services I don't need, just to see what they can get out of me. They can do BOTH diagnostics and the repairs, AND, they give you a hierarchy of what is essential, what can safely wait 6 months or a certain number of miles, etc. It's a family run company.
