Quinn (surf instructor/owner) & surf boards
    Sarah C.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of taking a surf lesson with the owner, Quinn. He communicated with me about where to meet and I had no trouble finding him. He provided a wetsuit that fit me & a board. Quinn has a kind and electric personality & is super fun to be around! He went over the basics, we practiced jumping up on the board, and he answered any questions I had. Quinn was encouraging and supportive every step of the way and I was able surf several waves!! I felt very safe and confident in the water with Quinn and overall it was an excellent experience! I plan to book another lesson with Quinn in the upcoming months to take my surfing to the next level. I would highly recommend this experience! :)

This was one of the best two days I've had in a very long time. I had almost no surfing experience going into this and lots of hiking and camping experience. Quinn was a friend of a friend and he seemed like a really competent guy, so I figured I would bring minimal gear of my own and just get the full Quinn experience. He thought of all the important details to make each part of the trip safe and comfortable while still preserving a sense of adventure. It was a delight. You surf in Malibu, you hike and eat lunch in Malibu Creek State Park and then you spend the night out on the stunning Saddlerock Ranch. You've read all about these things. The biggest part of the trip, by far though, was Quinn, himself. Quinn is kind and thoughtful. He's an expert in the fields in which he instructs. He's humble. He listens. He's funny. He clearly loves what he does and it shines through in every aspect of the trip. Over dinner, over breakfast and in the surf we had some really wonderful heart to heart conversations. The adventures were stupendous but the friendship and camaraderie were beyond compare. Thank you Quinn!

The 2 days spent with Quinn and company have been phenomenal! We started our day with surfing along Malibu's beaches, but first a well guided yoga warm up with Jake. Despite the ocean roaring behind us, we were able to hear Jake's instructions clearly. Once the group felt nice and warm, we proceeded with Quinn's surf lesson. Surf boards and wet suits were provided, which is great! Quinn was very concise and clear with his instruction, which in turn made the experience more enjoyable. I agree with Julie, a past reviewer, that Quinn is very kind, patient and knowledgable. Did I mention, he is an amazing surfer?! After getting all rinsed and ready, we made our way to Malibu State Park for lunch, a hike and a dip in the water. The views were out of this world! I felt blessed to be there and have amazing guides and good company. After hiking back to the car, we made our way to our campsite. Our campsite was located on private property with jaw dropping views. We watched the sunset while the group winded down, and I must say, if you are feeling the stress of work, you should really consider booking a trip with this company. Tents and sleeping bags and chairs were provided, which made carrying our belongings to the campsite easier. The next morning, when I sat up from my sleeping bag, I witnessed one of the most amazing sun rises of my life! We were above the cloud line and I saw the sun peak behind the surrounding mountain ranges of Malibu. I was a very happy individual at this point. We continued to our second surf lesson and had an amazing time. I really recommend booking a trip with Eat Sleep Surf. *Throws up a double Shaka brah*

We had a great time with Quinn! Good communication, good lesson, and a great time all around! Highly recommend.

exploring the water hole and cliff jumping

Everything is more amazing than we have expected. Quinn is an excellent instructor and surf buddy, as well as an experienced naturalist, camper, and rock climber. We had such a fun time surfing at a wonderful spot, and hiking to a water hole and exploring the hidden beauty only reachable by climbing through some rocks. The camp ground is private and with a great view, and Quinn was very considerate in preparing all the equipments and meals. We 100% recommend this adventure whether if you're local in LA or traveling! Quinn is a very chill and interesting guy who will make this an amazing and memorable 2 days trip :)

I went on a 2 day trip with Quinn last weekend, and it was awesome! He took us to some great hiking spots in Malibu State Park, and then before it got dark out we went to his private camp site. We cooked up some great food, and spent the night under the stars. And when we woke up in the morning, I was amazed at what a great view there was! Quinn then took us surfing, and he really is a great coach. I had surfed a few times before, but he really helped me improve. Quinn is also just a really great guy. It made this trip feel like I was hanging out with an old friend. I would definitely recommend this experience to my friends, and will be contacting Quinn next time I am in LA.

My two teen sons (17 & 15) had an amazing surfing lesson today with Quinn He was patient, fun, and extremely helpful in teaching them all the basics for beginning surfers. Boards and wet suits were provided. Very convenient to reserve the lesson on the website. Instructions & directions couldn't have been more clear. And most importantly, the boys LOVED it!!

We received Quinn's Eat-Sleep-Surf Trip as a wedding present. We always sign up for adventure tours when we travel, so we were super excited about the trip. We did surfing lesson first thing in the tour. It was in Malibu area, so not as crowded as touristy Santa Monica beach. My husband and I were both first time surfers but he was very patient with us. Quinn is kind, knowledgeable, and an experienced teacher - and I could really see he is passionate about his job; he loves this job. After the surf lesson we drove up to the beautiful Malibu State Creek Park. It was a great getaway from the city life. The park is very scenic and it almost feels like you are somewhere in Africa! The park features a lot of activities such as swimming, rock climbing and hiking. We tried some rock climbing and explored the caves. (There are some rocks that you can try without any gear and experience) After we spend some time chilling by the creek we started to cook dinner! What to not love about this trip! Quinn is also an amazing cook - we had Carne Asada Tacos with ample toppings he prepared. After dinner we were chilling by the campfire, and some of the friends showed up with more delicious food. Next morning we went back to the beach to surf more. This time the waves were a little strong so I didn't get to spend too much time surfing (paddling is a real hustle lol) but it was still nice to play in the water. Overall what a nice getaway from the city! This trip will remain as a special memory for us. Highly recommended. Great value. If you don't have any camping gears, don't you ever worry - Quinn has everything you possibly need - sleeping pad, extra tent, sleeping bag... and A LOT OF FOOD!

Ask the Community - Eat Sleep Surf

Hey Quinn. The last week in July three of us girls are planning a hike. A section of a 200 mile Malibu to Mexico trek on the wet sand at lo tide. We start in Malibu we need a place to camp one night. Travel is mid week. Can u accommodate?

Hi Michelle, thanks for reaching out! That sounds like an amazing trip! Our camping location is not on the beach, but about 5 miles inland high in the mountains. Not sure if that would work for you. But I would love to hear more about this… Read more

He not only taught me how to surf, he taught be how to be a surfer. And after several days on the water with him, I was fully stoked with surfing. I was recently in Venice Beach after taking a few months break from living in Asia. While I was in VB, I wanted to learn how to surf. While I had gone surfing several time in northern California, Baja, and Bali, I was never really surfing. More just catching the whitewash from the waves. So when I arrived to LA, I immediately took the chance to devote time and energy to learn how to surf. But after several disappointing days getting rocked by the waves, I was about ready to hang up the board for good. Fortunately after one of these days when I was returning my rented board rather disappointed, Laine was hanging nearby by and we starting chatting. Right away I started feeling more optimistic about my potential. After a little back and forth, I was able to work out a multi lesson deal with Laine. Since the waves at Santa Monica can be hit or miss, on bad days Laine took me further up the coast to sunset. He taught me how to read the surf reports and the buoys so that I would know when it was worth going out. He offered to take me to look at boards. After the lessons, he'd tell me about great surf spots in the area or around the world, especially his native Hawaii. And when the 5 lessons were finished, he even offered to go out with me when he wasn't giving lessons. It was these extra steps that he took that left such a strong impression with me. Much more than just a teacher, Laine became a good friend. I strongly recommend him for anyone who wants the whole surfing experience. And I look forward to surfing with him again when I am back in America.
