I did the surf, hike & overnight camping trip with Quinn. It was a blast! From the moment we started Quinn had everything covered. From wetsuits to lunches, water and sunscreen. This was a well curated and really unique experience that very few people get to enjoy. We took the trip as an employee outing and it was the perfect mix of activity and social time. Without having to worry about the trip logistics we were free to enjoy ourselves and have great conversations. I would recommend this experience to anybody who is looking for a more immersive trip to malibu and the Santa Monica mountains. A lot of other trips are very short and this one is over 24 hours of excitement. My one recommendation for Quin, the trip leader, is to have dessert after dinner. He said that guests usually ask for s'mores. But that it can be quite messy when ur off-grid camping. But I think he should have s'mores wrapped tin-foil so u can clean up the mess easier. All in all this was a amazing trip and will definitely be planning this again in the future. read more

My friends and I had an amazing time with Quinn! Quinn was super knowledgable, fun, and was clearly passionate about surfing. He made a ton of effort to make sure we each caught a wave, and despite having 3 people, we each got a lot of individual instructions and 1on1 coaching. Prior to our surf trip, he was super communicative and texted us ahead of time to ensure we had his info and meeting location. He was also super flexible and willing to accommodate us shifting locations from Malibu to Venice. This past weekend I had the pleasure of taking a surf lesson with the owner, Quinn. He communicated with me about where to meet and I had no trouble finding him. He provided a wetsuit that fit me & a board. Quinn has a kind and electric personality & is super fun to be around! He went over the basics, we practiced jumping up on the board, and he answered any questions I had. Quinn was encouraging and supportive every step of the way and I was able surf several waves!! I felt very safe and confident in the water with Quinn and overall it was an excellent experience! This was one of the best two days I've had in a very long time. I had almost no surfing experience going into this and lots of hiking and camping experience. Quinn was a friend of a friend and he seemed like a really competent guy, so I figured I would bring minimal gear of my own and just get the full Quinn experience. He thought of all the important details to make each part of the trip safe and comfortable while still preserving a sense of adventure. It was a delight. You surf in Malibu, you hike and eat lunch in Malibu Creek State Park and then you spend the night out on the stunning Saddlerock Ranch. You've read all about these things. The biggest part of the trip, by far though, was Quinn, himself. Quinn is kind and thoughtful. He's an expert in the fields in which he instructs. He's humble. He listens. He's funny. He clearly loves what he does and it shines through in every aspect of the trip. Over dinner, over breakfast and in the surf we had some really wonderful heart to heart conversations. The 2 days spent with Quinn and company have been phenomenal! We started our day with surfing along Malibu's beaches, but first a well guided yoga warm up with Jake. Despite the ocean roaring behind us, we were able to hear Jake's instructions clearly. Once the group felt nice and warm, we proceeded with Quinn's surf lesson. Surf boards and wet suits were provided, which is great! Quinn was very concise and clear with his instruction, which in turn made the experience more enjoyable. I agree with Julie, a past reviewer, that Quinn is very kind, patient and knowledgable. Did I mention, he is an amazing surfer?! After getting all rinsed and ready, we made our way to Malibu State Park for lunch, a hike and a dip in the water. The views were out of this world! I felt blessed to be there and have amazing guides and good company. After hiking back to the car, we made our way to our campsite. Our campsite was located on private property with jaw dropping views. We watched the sunset while the group winded down, and I must say, if you are feeling the stress of work, you should really consider booking a trip with this company. Tents and sleeping bags and chairs were provided, which made carrying our belongings to the campsite easier. The next morning, when I sat up from my sleeping bag, I witnessed one of the most amazing sun rises of my life! We were above the cloud line and I saw the sun peak behind the surrounding mountain ranges of Malibu. I was a very happy individual at this point. Everything is more amazing than we have expected. Quinn is an excellent instructor and surf buddy, as well as an experienced naturalist, camper, and rock climber. We had such a fun time surfing at a wonderful spot, and hiking to a water hole and exploring the hidden beauty only reachable by climbing through some rocks. The camp ground is private and with a great view, and Quinn was very considerate in preparing all the equipments and meals. I went on a 2 day trip with Quinn last weekend, and it was awesome! He took us to some great hiking spots in Malibu State Park, and then before it got dark out we went to his private camp site. We cooked up some great food, and spent the night under the stars. And when we woke up in the morning, I was amazed at what a great view there was! Quinn then took us surfing, and he really is a great coach. I had surfed a few times before, but he really helped me improve. Quinn is also just a really great guy. I'll be honest, I am terrified of sharks. For as long as I have lived in Los Angeles I have gone in the ocean 3 times, and that could have possibly been in part to bottomless mimosas I had before going to the beach. I was given a gift by a friend to go learn how to surf with Quinn at Eat Sleep Surf. Tbh, I almost didn't go because of my fear of sharks, but I couldn't refund the gift. After some internal battles I justified going out by making sure I was in the middle of the group at all times. At least that was going to be the plan. After learning a few basic techniques I was becoming more and more comfortable in the water. Quinn is a gifted surf instructor and had many of us newbies up on a board in no time. After this experience I really want to go out surfing more often. The shark fear is still very real, and I probably would never go alone, but I had an amazing time learning to surf and would love to keep it up. I'd like to thank Quinn for keeping me out there and getting me to a point where I was comfortable, I really didn't expect it and ended up having an amazing experience given my aversion to the ocean. read more

We received Quinn's Eat-Sleep-Surf Trip as a wedding present. We always sign up for adventure tours when we travel, so we were super excited about the trip. We did surfing lesson first thing in the tour. It was in Malibu area, so not as crowded as touristy Santa Monica beach. My husband and I were both first time surfers but he was very patient with us. Quinn is kind, knowledgeable, and an experienced teacher - and I could really see he is passionate about his job; he loves this job. After the surf lesson we drove up to the beautiful Malibu State Creek Park. It was a great getaway from the city life. The park is very scenic and it almost feels like you are somewhere in Africa! The park features a lot of activities such as swimming, rock climbing and hiking. We tried some rock climbing and explored the caves. (There are some rocks that you can try without any gear and experience) After we spend some time chilling by the creek we started to cook dinner! What to not love about this trip! Quinn is also an amazing cook - we had Carne Asada Tacos with ample toppings he prepared. After dinner we were chilling by the campfire, and some of the friends showed up with more delicious food. Next morning we went back to the beach to surf more. This time the waves were a little strong so I didn't get to spend too much time surfing (paddling is a real hustle lol) but it was still nice to play in the water. Overall what a nice getaway from the city! This trip will remain as a special memory for us. Highly recommended. Great value. If you don't have any camping gears, don't you ever worry - Quinn has everything you possibly need - sleeping pad, extra tent, sleeping bag... and A LOT OF FOOD! read more

Bought a weekend surf camp trip via Verlocal (a cool site where people around LA offer their skills and expertise as classes). The cost of the weekend was incredibly worth it. I paid $170 with a promo code from Verlocal. You get wetsuit and surfboard use for two days, camping gear and a night of camping at Malibu Creek State Park (which is pretty hard in of itself to reserve), dinner (bomb carne asada), breakfast and two days worth of surf lessons! The instructor, Quinn, is a fantastic instructor and incredibly helpful. There were 4 girls total on the trip and 2 were more experienced surfers, but we were all able to have fun out in the water. I didnt once worry about dying. Unlike the other groups, we had a group that wanted to keep surfing throughout the day so we did not get to hike or rock climb. That being said, Quinn is receptive and accommodating in what the group wants to do. It felt like you were just hanging out by the beach with friends. Overall, fun time, and a great weekend spent doing very Cali things. Also Quinn's friend is cool. And he'll bring the guacamole and acoustic 90s songs to camp. i cant promise that though. read more

Quinn is legiiiit! He is extremely professional and well spoken. His directions are easily understandable and easy to follow. He is very considerate of your athletic ability and level of exposure to water sports. He contacted us the evening before our surf lessons and moved the lesson to a later time (and to a more convenient location for us) when the tides would be more easily manageable - I greatly appreciated this as I personally feel I am an uncoordinated, awkward body jiggly jello-blob. His guidance helped me get up on the board, even if it was only for a split second - this was a little victory for me. Quinn is also super friendly and relatable. Quinn is your quintessential Californian hippie and i love it!! He climbs, surfs, hikes, and is super chill and happy. What more can you ask for in a vacation surf instructor? Nothing. Quinn is an incredible teacher. I never thought I would be able to learn how to surf, but he somehow managed to teach me! If he can teach me, he can teach anyone. My family and I had an amazing experience learning to surf with Quinn last Friday - first time for the kids, 2nd for me. Quinn was flexible with timing, arrived ahead of us with all gear in tow. He patiently instructed us w/ demo 1 by 1 on land to be sure we had the technique. He was with us every step of the way while in the water until every one of us got up at least briefly. A Total Bucket List Experience I took my 6 and 8 year old granddaughters to Surf at Huntington Beach and Disneyland for Fall Break. IT WAS FANTASTIC! Our surf instructor, Quinn, was AWESOME! I never dreamed both of my granddaughters would be able to learn beginner techniques so quickly. My youngest granddaughter got up the first time and rode three waves in. The oldest granddaughter got to her knees and rode the wave in. Then they did it again and again. Quinn was so patient and kind. He made all of us feel at ease. He was so positive and was able to build my granddaughters confidents that they would be able to surf. Actually, by the end of the lesson my granddaughters were so excited and happy with their accomplishments.The following June we hired Quiin to come to Kaui, Hawaii for 8 days as the girls surf instructor. I recently went on a two-day surf trip with Eat Sleep Surf that I booked on Airbnb, and I have to echo everyone else in saying wow, what an amazing trip. Quinn is an unbelievable instructor, he has a great balance of pushing you and motivating you to work hard (it's a real workout believe me...I was sore the next couple days), and being super positive and encouraging. I did get up a few times but would love another shot at it next time I'm out in LA! When it comes to organization Quinn leaves no stone unturned...from a meet-and-greet over drinks at Venice Ale House to delicious carne asada tacos for dinner over the fire, to some of the most beautiful hiking I've ever encountered. Quinn was well prepared, easy going and even looks the part of a seasoned CA surfer. Wife did a 2 hour private lesson. Lesson starts on beach with some skills and general surfing info. Eat Sleep Surf was a great experience. We went on the camping trip which was so much fun. The campsite is not that far from Malibu but it feels like you are really camping. The view from the private campsite was remarkable. Surfing was also great. I had never been surfing before but I had always wanted to try. Quinn was an excellent teacher and I even got up with his help! He took us to Santa Monica beach which beautiful. Everything about the trip was so much fun and Quinn is such a great guide and teacher who really knows his stuff. You can tell Quinn really knows his stuff when it comes to surfing. I'm not by any means a coordinated guy, but he had me standing on the board riding waves in by the end of our session. I've never been big on the ocean but he makes you feel just as comfortable in the water as you would be standing on land.
