Good coffee, a vibe (you know what I'm talkin bout), and plenty of seating are a must for a quality coffee shop as far as I am concerned. I visited Ebenezer's a few times when I worked near by because who works without coffee in 2018... Anywayyyy, the baristas were so sweet every time I went there so 10/10, for sure. Also the coffee is as delightful as it smells when you walk in. Somehow, our society has chosen quantity and ease of access over a quality cup, so kudos Ebenezer's. You're doing great, sweetie! Those who know me best, know that I am a huge coffee nut and drink far more than my fare share on a daily basis. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that I'm always on the prowl for a great cup of coffee when traveling. Recently, while visiting Washington DC with my three daughters, I found this charming little coffeehouse over on F street and had a great cup of their hot house brew. The shop specializes in fair trade coffees and teas and had a nice selection on tap. My oldest (17) loves the cold, sweet stuff, and so I picked her up a mocha freeze that she said was "delicious, and much better" than that other well-known global chain's version of the same beverage. My hot coffee of choice was a house blend, medium body with nutty undertones ,and it did not disappoint. I would absolutely recommend this delightful little shop to get your daily fix of Java! When I first moved to DC, I frequented Ebenezers. They have strong wifi and decent coffee. If you live in this area, it's one of the only coffee shops in town. Since a church owns it, you definitely get a lot of Christian hipsters there. The only downside of this is the coffee isn't the best in the city and sometimes it's hard to find seating since all the Christian hipsters go here. I personally would go to Eastern Market instead for a coffee shop. read more

I drove to DC and navigated the metro alone, specifically for this coffee shop. For those who aren't familiar, Ebenezers has an AMAZING backstory as told by Pastor Mark Batterson through his books The Circle Maker and Draw the Circle. These books changed my life almost two years ago, and I had been dying to visit the shop since then. Admittedly, I wasn't quite as blown away by my actual experience as I was with the story, so as a true Yelper I will share my unbiased opinion. With its prime location, the shop remained busy throughout my time there. I was glad to see they had books, mugs, stickers, and other trinkets for sale by the counter. As far as drinks go, they have all the espresso basics, plus many more offerings such as tea, "freezers", and seasonal flavors. They have a small case of outside food & drink such as to-go breakfast bowls and bottled lemonade. The food selection otherwise was limited to muffins and other pastries. I got the chocolate croissant--I really wish they had offered to heat it up or that I had thought to ask beforehand. I enjoyed it, however the near-block of chocolate in the middle would have been decadent had it melted some with a warm-up. My drink was an iced honey lavender latte. Each of those two flavors individually has the ability to make me audibly gasp when I see them on a menu, so this drink had my hopes really high. Unfortunately, I wasn't blown away. The espresso was not rich or strong, and the drink was warm despite the whole "iced" part. The ice (which there was not enough of) melted too quickly with the hot espresso and watered down my drink. A coffee shop's rookie mistake. The flavor profile was pretty good, but overall it wasn't my favorite drink. I also think I got my hopes too high for the customer service. Since I was beyond stoked to finally be there, I was high energy yet that wasn't reciprocated. The man who took my order was still very pleasant, especially nice to offer to wrap up the mug I bought and get me a bag. The barista making drinks did not look very happy, and had no cheer when I spoke to him briefly. But I get that everyone has their days. The shop itself is beautiful with its brick walls and industrial styling. I had a hard time finding a prime seat to do work at, and had to wait over an hour for one to open up with an outlet in reach. There is a good variety of seating though (both indoor and outdoor) to include comfy chairs, a communal table, high tops, and window-facing seats. I had no issues with the WiFi, just make sure to ask for the password when you order. Overall, I'm still very glad to have made the trip here. If I were a local, I would frequent the shop and perhaps have a 5-star experience more often than not. As much as I wanted to fall head-over-heels for this shop, in the end I have had better service and better coffee. read more

For the summertime, there's plenty of outdoor seating. It's a popular spot since it's so close to union station, so you may have to wait a bit to get your drink. But it's worth it! read more

Very clean and the staff are all super nice. The coffee just isn't very good, which is obviously pretty important for a coffee shop. Every time I've gone, I've also had to wait a very long time for my drink, even if there's only a couple customers. Today there was only 1 person making all the drinks. Two people ordered ahead of me (and the place was empty before them), but I still waited 15 minutes for a latte. I want this place to be great because it's cute and everyone is so nice! I went here for the first time yesterday and loved my takeout experience. My partner ordered a Honey Lavender iced latte and I ordered a Blackberry Vanilla iced latte. Both of them were extremely delicious. Service was fast, friendly, and clean. They give you sipping lids for your drink automatically, but do have straws available upon request. Cool place to hang out, get your caffeine fix, and catch a nice breeze. I wanted to do some reading/writing and it was impossible to find parking anywhere near my favorite tea house/hangout spot, so I decided to try something new and come here. I ordered the honey vanilla iced latte with almond milk (so happy they had almond milk!). It was delicious, albeit just the slightest bit oversweetened. Hardly a deterrent... that drink never stood a chance. Coffee usually irritates my stomach (which Is why I usually drink tea), but thankfully this coffee was smooth and tummy-friendly. The music here was upbeat (early 2000s and contemporary pop and Top 40 tunes) and created a youthful and less stuffy atmostphere compares to more "serious" coffeeshops I came looking for a reasonably quiet place to work, and late on a Sunday evening, there were not very many patrons inside. Despite this, I had to knock off a star because it actually very noisy in there. I'm not sure what the staff were doing behind me, breaking up ice or trying to hammer a loose something back into place, but it sounded/felt like being on a construction site. I never expected it to be dead quiet, but even with headphones in, it was impossible to concentrate. It happened multiple times while I was there, and finally I gave up all hope of getting any writing done and chose to just enjoy my latte instead. I'll be back, but definitely not to work. read more

You know this place was going to be amazing when you walk in and smell the magical aroma of all of the coffee's mixing in the air. And boy were there damn good good coffees. I had a lavender latte, and I swear my eyes rolled in the back of my head after the first sip. The seating is a bit awkward, and there really isn't enough. I popped in here to meet up with a friend who was catching a bus home from Union Station not longer after. Ebenezer's is conveniently located a block away. The outdoor seating area is rather sizeable but we ended up sitting inside because a summer rain shower rolled through. I stopped by here on a weekday because I didn't have to go into the office and just wanted a chill place to get some work done. The place is conveniently located next to Union Station Metro (2 min walk away) and has some decent drinks. I tried one of their seasonal drink selection (honey lavender latte?) and really liked it. Took off a star because the table I originally settled at had syrup or the sticky remains of an earlier spill that had not been cleaned up, which was not particularly pleasant. I later migrated over to the window seats, which were very relaxing and presented a nice view of the streets ( I like people watching ). I had one more morning in DC and wanted to try a great coffee shop, a friend said he liked this place and that I should check them out. It was totally out of my way but decided to go anyway. And boy am I glad I did!! As soon as I walked in I loved it here! The music selection is on point! The atmosphere was great, super friendly baristas, good menu selection, just wonderful all around. All of the specialty drinks sounded good. But I went with my go to coffee, the cinnamon latte breve. They were so fast before I could find somewhere to sit they were calling my order! It was just what I needed, perfectly sweetened, creamy, and hot! Most coffee shops do not serve their drinks as hot as I prefer them and this was a wonderful surprise. read more

This place is suuuuuper convenient for me, as it's just a few paces away from Barre3. My partner joined me for barre class the other day, so we decided to treat ourselves with some fancy coffee afterwards. Their seasonal lattes were still wintry, even though it was April and 70°. I ordered an iced toasted marshmallow latte with oat milk. It was okay! Very subtle marshmallow flavor. I don't really buy coffee that often, but I felt $6 was excessive. After passing by on the way to a friends and reading the reviews, I needed to come back! A few blocks from Union Station, they have plenty of seating instead (very cozy), but I opted for outside because I had my pup (really spacious patio!) I usually get an iced vanilla latte, but after a great recommendation from the barista, I ordered the iced blackberry vanilla latte. I took one sip and was instantly happy with that choice! I didn't catch his name, but big thank you to him! The subtle hint of blackberry was refreshing on a muggy D.C. day. I also snagged an almond croissant, so yummy! This is one of my favorite coffee shops in the city. Close to the h street neighborhood and is super cute and cozy. They always have fun seasonal options like the pumpkin pie latte. I got the super greens latte which tasted like matcha with no caffeine and with almond milk! Highly recommend. I've tried the honey lavender before and was disappointed... it was WAY too sweet and I have huge sweet tooth. Like I can finish a pint of ice cream in a sitting kind of sweet tooth. They got free WiFi (key... looking at you la Colombe...) and their pastries look pretty good too although I've never tried one. Lots of Yopos (young professionals) who are doing work, reading, or going on dates. I come here to do grad school work and stay for hours once I find a seat bc it's rare to find one (hence the -1). There's apparently space downstairs but who wants to work in a basement. There's a cute little patio area that would be really nice in the summer too. read more

Coffee with a cause! Ebenezers is tucked away a block away from Union Station in an unassuming Capitol Hill neighborhood. I wasn't expecting too much when I decided to step in one Saturday afternoon, but once I did, I felt like I was stepping into a real-life version of Central Perk. The interior is airy and welcoming. There are lots of high top tables and upholstered chairs, as well as a communal table with about 8 seats to share. Plenty of natural light filters into the coffeehouse. Their downstairs level has additional seating, but this is also where they play live music. You can also reserve this lower level for private events. Ebenezers is owned and operated by the National Community Church, and all profits go towards community outreach projects. Their retail coffee is all fair trade, with their main roaster being One Village Coffee. They serve your typical coffee and espresso drinks, but I really steer towards their seasonal menu. On this menu, they've got apple cider, honey lavender latte, blackberry vanilla latte, lavender lemonade, pumpkin pie latte, marshmallow latte, pumpkin spiced chai, and so on. I had the honey lavender latte and it was very good, perfect for a fall day! If you're not a fan of any of these, they do sell bottled drinks like OJ and sodas. Ebenezers also has a food menu, which has pastries, scones, croissants, cookies, coffee cakes, and other coffee accompaniments. They also have breakfast items like oatmeal and bagels, sandwiches like an egg and cheese, and salads. The service is friendly and warm. For the specialty drinks, it takes a little longer to prepare but it's worth it. I love that they have stickers for you to decorate your cups. Also, free Wifi! read more

Like any chai at most coffee shops, it comes in powder form so when you order it iced it doesn't always mix well and gets chunky and gritty. Before I ever order am espresso based drink from a coffee shop, I always check out the drip. Why? Bc if they give a damn about the drip, then you know from a base level, they care about good coffee. Alright enough for me to not be deterred from trying one of their expresso based drinks the next time around. So I dug into their reviews to see where the hype was. Now, I'm a former barista, and I've made the hell out of some lavender lattes. They were never my thing, but I made em' and sure nuff' ... Ppl love em. So, I was like, why not...I'll get a large honey lavender latte. Word on the Ebeneezer street is....they real good. So I place my order, scope and see that they have lots of nosh...pastries, sandwiches, stacked salad thingies...you got munchable options. That sounds dirty. Moving on... I love that they have their floors marked to high heavens to show customers where to stand in socially distant appropriate spacing. Find a blue x...plant your ass on it and don't cough. So, I finally hear my drink announced. Fantastic! Grab it and pop out. My house is like .3 away...so this is the neighborhood caffeinated gin joint... I walk back to my place... haven't tried the latte, bc hey, it's a Rona' world and I'm just living in it...so I'm masked up as I walk home. I get to my desk, I settle in for that first sip of coffee....it's espresso and milk. I swear to Goddess, not a trace of lavender, not a trace of honey....what's happening? Do I have COVID? Taste is one of the things that goes, right? No....can't be. Take another sip. It's a latte, with a honey lavender price tag. Wut? Haha....so much for that. Had I tried it before I left, I probably would have tiptoed back to the counter and said...."hiii, I can't taste any lavender or honey in this, can you give it a go and tell me if I'm batshit?" Alas....distance had been out between us. So, how was the regular latte? Well, I added a teaspoon of honey and some vanilla .... So my doctored vanilla latte was, alright. :) I'm sure it was a fluke. That many rave reviews of a damn lavender latte....and mine had to be the fluke. It's a Christian coffee shop, so as you peer around, you'll peep some books that are of the faithful variety. It is a perfect place to stop by during the rain in the district. I liked that they placed bottles with the different teas they offer by the counter. However, the raspberry oolong tea did not have that strong oolong flavor. I would recommend to go for the lattes, especially the honey lavender one. read more
