The staff here were kind, however they we're not transparent about costs, manipulative and did an inadequate job. I primarily came to get surgery for a severe tongue tie. In order to do this, I needed to do a full initial intake appointment in which they told me I have gingivitis and highly recommended I do their intensive cleaning procedure and pressured me to start that same day. I told them that I am low income and on medi-cal and if they take insurance or if I should find someone else. They basically told me that dental insurance is a scam and I should stick with them. They charge WAY more than even the average dentist. I later found out that Dientes in Santa Cruz takes medi-cal and Cabrillo Hygiene Clinic also offers very cheap cleaning. When I went to Cabrillo for cleaning a couple years later, the Dr/Instructor there said the X-rays I got here were done incorrectly and were not acceptable. Luckily they were able to re do them for cheap. Although it is on me to find the right dental care for my insurance, I came for a different issue and didn't appreciate being pressured to choose them for the cleaning and lied to. I had to use all my savings to cover the costs. Also, although I initially came for the tongue tie release, they were only able to do half. When i inquired about coming back for the second half release as originally planned, the doctor said I couldn't do it because I needed to be able to fully lift my tongue on my own, even though the whole issue of why I need the release is that I can't. The doctor at cabrillo said this was rediculous, and that there are definitely doctors who could do the full release as is. Overall, while the staff may seem nice at first, it seems clear they are trying to make as much money as possible without caring about the clients needs, and the more money you spend here does not mean better care. read more

She wanted me to fly to Dallas for 6-8 weeks while some doctor would crack my jaws, reset them, and mon it tor my progress or lack there of. I DID NOT HAVE DENTAl Insurance. Went to the #1 Maxofacial Specialist at Stanford and he advised against it. Said the procedures were no different than 30 years ago. I went with him. read more

They over prescribe unproven methods that are not accepted by the general medical community, they do not follow-up on what they prescribe, did not tell me that they were out of network. I routine general crown replaced that should have only taken a maximum of two hours, but I was in the chair for 4 1/2 hours, which is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous and acted as if it was routine for it to take that long. I also had to convince him to do the crown on my root canal, which was a good thing I did because their was decay behind the old one, but he was suggesting I not do one, even though that was what i was there for. They also have a front desk person Kim who thinks she is a dentist and tried to give you recommendations as if she has gone to dental school. She tried to tell me that I needed dental x-rays every year, but I had just had some from another provider she refused to contact them and said that they would not be valid. They took my daughters routine general x-rays and did not even capture the roots, but still charged us. This place is a joke. read more

Really horrible experience here. The front desk receptionist, Kim ( I think her name is?) was incredibly rude and the dentist bed side manner was far below what we would expect, especially with how much they charge. She did a great job trying to shame us with where we were in my daughters dental journey. We came in for visits twice to get my teenage daughters cavities filled and on the third appointment when we were supposed to get her final fillings completed, they cancelled on us while we were in the lobby (even though we were on time for our appointment) saying that we "no showed" because we didn't call to confirm the day before. Then she said if I wanted to book an appointment in the future, we would need to pay upfront, because, although I had shown up for my appointment, it was a "no show" since they couldn't reach me to confirm and it was their policy. THEY cancelled on US literally while we were waiting for our appointment The receptionist then spoke to me in an incredibly belittling tone and tried to scold me in the back room, telling me they "lost money due to me no showing" even though I WAS IN THE OFFICE FOR MY APPOINTMENT. I have years of NVC experience and I have to say, I was close to my limit in patience with the way I was being treated. If being gaslit and treated poorly for top dollar is your thing.... feel free to book! read more

I have often said that I would rather be in labor and give birth to a fourth child than have any dental work done beyond a cleaning. This dental practice has completely changed my mind. I recently had to have a crown replaced. UGH! I dreaded it.... put it off for far too long...and was an anxious mess as I was seated in Dr. Max's chair. I mentioned it (downplaying it, of course, as to not appear to be wimpy) but, the assistant quickly said that they could help me with that without any drugs. COOL! Do not walk--RUN--away from Dr. Ariana Ebrahimian! I have never encountered a professional so incompetent or reckless. My 14yo daughter had quite straight and even teeth, and had just been elected freshman homecoming queen (or whatever--I say it only to convey the fact that she had just won a beauty contest at a huge new school full of strangers). At our very first consultation, I told Dr. A I didn't think she really needed braces, and that I wanted the least invasive treatment possible, and only if necessary to address health risks. I said I'd actually prefer no braces, because dragging teeth around weakens bones and causes gums to recede. She pooh-poohed this risk. I explained that I had already had three gum grafts. In that first discussion, out of nowhere, Dr. A expressed concern that my daughter was a mouth breather at risk of developing a receded chin. (She showed us terrifying pictures from an old case study of a boy who was allergic to his gerbil and started breathing improperly, which caused his chin to recede horribly.) I see now, reading these reviews, that she diagnoses everyone as a mouth breather. She said my daughter should start doing myofacial exercises to strengthen her lower jaw---to be followed 7 months later with a tongue-snip surgery and then braces. I saw no harm in developing the face/jaw muscles; it seemed noninvasive to me, and I thought we could decide later whether to go forward with the whole program. I don't recall Dr. A mentioning a "growth appliance," but if she did, I assumed she was referring to something to develop the lower jaw, which she seemed to think was going to recede. But at my daughter's very first appointment, without my knowledge, in addition to a lot of spacers, Dr. A installed a growth appliance in the TOP jaw. (I later learned from Google this is an invention that actually presses on nerves that stimulate the BONES to grow in still-developing faces.) Just 60 days later, my daughter was practically unrecognizable, presenting very strong cheekbones (think M. Trump) and a cartoonish overbite (think M. Groening rabbit). She could no longer close her mouth over her top teeth, and could fit her entire thumb into the large spaces behind each of her top canines. She was coming to me crying every few days, saying, "Look at my face." Quite alarmed, I called Dr. A to ask if she didn't think the top teeth were now way too far forward. She said this was just how she planned it, and everything would come back in proportion once the facial exercises that my poor daughter was doing like a maniac caused the lower jaw to grow and move forward. Having seen NO progress on that front, I asked how likely she thought the exercises were to work. At that point, she told me "80 percent!" She had NEVER before mentioned the possibility the exercises wouldn't work. Horrified, I asked, if there is only an 80 percent chance of the exercises working, then why move the top teeth first? She said that's how it's done, and expressed confidence that the lower jaw would free up to move forward after the tongue-snip surgery. Then I asked what was Plan B--i.e., what was she going to do if the exercises continued to do NOTHING after the tongue snip. At that point, she said, "in that case, we'll just ROUND TRIP 'EM"--meaning just drag the top teeth back to their original position. I said she had scared the bejeezus out of us with pictures of the gerbil boy, whose chin virtually disappeared into his face by age 14--but that SHE had engineered the same look, by enlarging my daughter's top jaw way out of proportion to her bottom jaw. She said she understood my concern, but I had to understand that we were only 30% of the way--at an ugly stage--to a beautiful result. Based on Dr. A's predictions, and her glowing Yelp reviews, we continued with the program through the tongue-snip surgery. NOTHING continued to happen after that, despite my daughter's faithfully doing the exercises, and even taping her mouth shut while she slept every night. (This broke my heart.) Finally, 8 months after the ordeal began, I consulted TWO highly rated orthodontists, who both said Dr. A's whole program was BS. One could see in the x-rays taken BEFORE we first met Dr. A, from the shape of my daughter's jaw joint, that no amount of exercise could "free" the jaw to move forward. Both agreed that, at this point, the only way to restore the original proportions of my daughter's face would be through PLASTIC SURGERY that would require breaking her jaw. Both also expressed horror at how far and how fast Dr. A had moved the top teeth, which now have to be moved back. Finally, I FIRED Dr. A. She returned all my money--for a release of my right to sue her. My daughter is now under the care of a competent orthodontist-and the entire plan of his 2-year treatment is to UNDO what Dr. A did in the first 2 months of hers. I cannot begin to express my regret. DO NOT bring your kid to this orthodontist. read more

When we were told he had lip and tongue tie it definitely was the anxiety part especially because we knew very little about it. When we brought him here the staff and dentists took all the anxiety away. It was such a positive experience and they provided such great care for our brand new baby boy. I didn't know what to expect when I walked in as it was my first time. I was greeted at the front desk by a very kind lady. Immediately after my hygienist called me in. She was so friendly, gentle and kind. She answered all my questions. I had a great appointment and care instructions. I didn't know that a dental office can do so much for you and your teeth and how our teeth can affect our overall health!. First they tested my saliva for bacteria. I have never had that done before. Then at my next appointment they gave me the results and gave me the treatment to medicines that I needed . My son had been diagnosed as having sleep apnea by PSG (overnight sleep study in clinic). He had been a mouth breather since he was a toddler, and his face had grown vertically over the years, due to this. He was chronically exhausted, and we had been to numerous doctors of all kinds to find a solution for him. Then we found Dr Ariana. She treated him with orthotropics and an expander, to widen his jaws and move them forward. This allowed his airway to expand, which ultimately corrected his problems. He now has a beautiful, wider jaw and smile, is not exhausted anymore, has a nicer profile, and does NOT have sleep apnea anymore! His follow up sleep study was negative! Another benefit after the treatment is that he does not have a "gummy" smile anymore. Dr Ariana is an excellent clinician and was always available to answer any of our questions. We are indebted to her for the care and treatment she provided him. He undoubtedly would have had more health issues as he got older if we had not gone forward with this treatment, and I am so happy to know that he will never need CPAP or surgery in the future because of this. This review is a long time coming. In March 2018 I visited Dr. Max's for an evaluation for the Anterior Growth Guidance Appliance/Controlled Arch. At the time I had been dealing with nagging jaw joint and jaw muscle symptoms for about a decade that began after an injury. Prior to coming to Dr. Max I had been to a number of medical specialists and none could offer me any hope. Dr. Max was extremely thorough and patient with me. He is still the best listener I have ever met among medical professionals. Dr. Max recognized that I needed substantial forward growth in my maxilla. Oh my goodness - hands down the most professional, prompt, caring, spa-like dentist I ever could have dreamed up! My first visit, there were a team of people all there to support me with the cleaning, X-rays, consult, etc. I was attended to so quickly I don't even think I had to sit down. I could tell Dr. Max had my best interest in mind and is such a sweet, knowledgeable man. They found I needed 2 fillings (after 7 years since going to a dentist!!!) and they did them in less than an hour, completely pain free. Truly outstanding dentistry. I've been a patient of both Dr. Max and Dr. Ariana and they are both fabulous, I think they are the best dentists I've had in my nearly sixty years of going to the dentist at least annually. They are careful, comprehensive, and absolutely up-to-date on their science, craft and technology. When I needed a crown, Dr. Ariana was great, and the crown was milled on premises and carefully fitted, ground and polished until my bite was just right - no need to have a temporary and then come back. When I needed my first root canal, I was referred out to one of their great colleagues, Dr. Tanya Machnich, who did a great job. And while their cosmetics are great, I am most impressed with their emphasis on functionality, especially for preserving one's airway capacity. Some people have sleep apnea or have had orthodontics which have impeded their airway for the sake of the cosmetics of their teeth and smile. And as you might imagine, not enough air with each breath can have far reaching consequences for one's overall health level. A sleep study can be upwards of $2000 a night and you have to sleep away from home, wired up and observed. Dr. Ariana was able to provide me with a watch-like device that allowed me to do my own at-home mini sleep study from which I learned that while I do have some sleep apnea, it is only mild, something to be watched. When my brother-in-law from Texas was visiting, he consulted with Dr. Max regarding his severe sleep apnea - he's been through several different types of C-Pap machine and was still hardly getting any sleep. Dr. Max referred him to Dr. Larry Wolford who performed a lengthy and comprehensive surgery on him with excellent results. My brother-in-law had suffered with this problem for many years, and with Dr. Max's help found a solution. My brother-in-law has told me that he believes the surgery saved his life. read more
