Couldn't have had a better experience. Our second major renovation, this one far far far outshines the other one done by a different contractor. Huey and his crew worked very hard around some major bureaucratic stumbling blocks to get this job done, permits for structural work. The quality of work was extremely good, the workers worked hard, the project stayed on budget and an addition to the contract was made part way through. He was able to ensure we were happy every step of the way. Renovations can be very stressful. We moved out of the house because so much was being done. We had two walls removed and two new rooms built as well as one window removed and two put in its place. The whole kitchen was torn out and replaced with fantastic cupboards and quartz counter tops. We installed a two piece bathroom, all new lighting, fans, and all new wood-like tile flooring including carpeting in the bedrooms. All was done to perfection and what wasn't to spec was immediately replaced when the newly ordered part/piece arrived. These folks went up of their way to make this work for us. The owner, Huey Santos, is personable and knowledgeable. His bid seemed fair. His 2 workers, David and Vince, were nice and seemed capable. They finished quickly and efficiently within 3 days. That said ... The project was in the kitchen to replace the old tile, the baseboards and to paint. The floor work was well-done and I'm happy with it. The baseboards are OK, but at both finish ends, the cut is ragged and where 1 attached to the old baseboard not yet replaced, the board is damaged. The wall painting was mediocre and in the time since completion I've noticed patchy areas. The edging around counters is OK, but sections are sloppy. Last night I noticed a slim strip of wall between the front door and closet door was missed entirely. The clean-up was horrible and the project was way too costly for this type of finish to a job. I've spent 1-2 hours cleaning tiny paint splatters and splashes from my sink, counters, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and a hardwood table that was on the other side of the opening from the kitchen to the living room. I even found paint smudges on my shower curtain! (I gave the workers permission to use my bathroom.) A week later I found more paint drips on a cabinet and on the new floor. Fortunately I've been able to clean up with water, a soft scour and a rag. When I tried to use my garbage disposal, it didn't work. There was grout jamming the blades. I started working it loose and running hot water. It took a few times, but the disposal is working. I hated to think what my pipes might have coating them, though, and causing a future problem so I bought heavy duty drain opener. Both my recycle and garbage bins were packed to the point that I couldn't move them. I did ask one of the workers to move the recycle bin to the curb since pick up was during their time here. I had to find help to move the garbage bin. Perhaps this is common practice for contractors to load up their customer's bins rather than haul away? Disrespect for a customer is another issue. One of the workers smoked and I discovered that he had thrown his butts into the recycle bin. I noticed after pickup that my garage smelled like old smoke and opened the bin. It reeked, but what annoyed me most is that I take recycling seriously. I emailed the contractor with my complaints and he immediately apologized profusely, even offering to send over the workers to apologize. I told him it wasn't necessary. It was done. He offered to install for free the shutters I plan to buy for the kitchen, but I won't be contacting him again. I have numerous other projects for which I planned to hire him, but it won't be happening now. read more

Poor Quality and Bad Attitude.Quality is poor and not responsive. Cheap quality materials. Also important thing is when we add review this person says "We don't recognize you as our client". All the positive comments here are cooked up and not genuine. Huey needs to work on improving how to deal with valuable customers. I will never recommend ECHI for any remodeling work especially the when it comes to price. read more

Hiring Huey Santos' Experts In Construction & Home Improvements to remodel our master bathroom was a difficult and unpleasant experience. The "5 to 7 day" job, we were promised, took 13 days over a period of 5 weeks. His crew continuously made mistakes starting on the first day and they had to rework most of their work at least once. Huey started the job 2 weeks early even though the contract clearly stated a later start date. The material hadn't been delivered yet. We were told that the job would take 5 to 7 days. When work started on Monday Huey left 2 of his employees at the house but never introduced them, he only said that they were capable. The first day our bathroom was demolished and a new drain was set in concrete. The second day they completely busted out all the concrete they poured for the new drain because they installed it wrong. On day 3 they scorched the inside of our wall with a torch soldering a simple copper pipe coupling. I was on the other side of the wall and felt radiated heat. I touched the wall and it was very hot. I went to notify the workers and discovered a 6 to 8 inch diameter charred area on the inside of our wall. The house was smokey. They didn't use a heat shield or have a fire extinguisher available. The house's water was shut off so they had no contingency if they started a fire. They scraped away the char and the gouge was over 1/8th inch deep. Huey gave excuses that they "forgot" their heat shield and they decided they "could to do the work anyways". He gave a halfhearted "sorry" and didn't take the burnt wall seriously even though it was important to his customers. He said his people are "professional". His "professionals" forgot vital tools and tried to do the work without them. The 2×6 that the shower control was mounted to was also burned. On day 3 Huey said the project was "on track". But the shower pan wasn't even in place yet. On Monday, day 7 the job was no where near completion. Tile had to be reworked a few times in the second week because of sloppy workmanship. Huey rarely visited the job site to lead, to check on its progress, or to assure quality. On the few select days he did, he only spent a few minutes each time. The workers replaced the faucet in our other bathroom and left plumber's putty oozing out around the drain. On Thursday, day 10 Huey abandoned the job as his way of dealing with difficult people. Huey's people returned to finish the job in the third week on Wednesday, day 11. But they did not finish the bathroom because they couldn't install our shower door claiming parts of the shower door were missing. We ordered a new door but when it arrived after a week Huey put our job off and made us wait another week. While we were waiting we scrutinized the work that they believed they were finished with. Over 100 defects were identified; very unprofessional. Tile edges next to each other didn't match in color. Tile edges with a bar code on them were left in 2 places. Tiles were chipped. Grout was inconsistently placed with shallow spots, rough spots and complete voids. Ridges of drywall mud were left in places and no effort was made to texture at all in many areas. They did a poor job of matching the original texture in the few places where they did try to texture. The lower window sill was not painted and had white construction dust on it. Missing paint was found on the walls, next to trim and around the light fixture. Holes were left in the wall from multiple attempts at mounting the mirror. They painted trim outside of the bathroom on walls that were not part of the remodel. When they returned 2 weeks later on Wednesday, day 12 they spent most of their 9 hours completing rework because of their poor quality workmanship that we identified. But they only replaced 2 of the 3 chipped tiles. When they tried to install the shower door again they discovered the same problem. It turns out they didn't know how to install a frame-less shower door. We waited 2 weeks for nothing. They still ran into difficulty and couldn't complete the shower door install that day. At the end of the fifth week, Huey himself had to install our shower door on Saturday, day 13. The modifications he made to it look bad. There are still problems with their workmanship. Because Huey's team couldn't get it right the first time they ran out of tile and the replacement tile doesn't match. One of the shower benches puddles water because a metal edge was installed too high. Thin-set oozed out from under the tile, is higher than the grout and doesn't match in color. Huey refuses to correct all of his mistakes. Within 3 months of the work the grout on the shower floor began to crumble out. We had a different contractor evaluate the problem. He said that Huey installed the shower floor tile incorrectly and it all needs to be replaced. read more

We all know remodeling can be stressful. Team ECHI-Experts makes the process flow on schedule and as convenient for the owner as possible. Huey Santos, ECHI owner, is skilled and personable. His knowledge of products is extensive. This alone made the project less stressful. His Team, I cannot say enough about the Team. They too were highly skilled, considerate and focused on their work. All of the work was done with care to detail which was important to me as I am a detail-driven person. I'd leave for work and return each evening to "something new" without a mess to clean up. It was the basically the same team working, therefore I did not have security concerns. Advice for remodel novices, Have a list and pictures of what you like. Take the time to pick out your items required for the project. Put away your personal items, curtains, rugs ...basically anything which would get in the way of the workers. I stayed away from the house during the initial few days of demolition & flooring. For privacy post demo, when I moved back in, purchased inexpensive window coverings etc which if were dirtied, no matter. The job started on the target date. The Team showed up on time every day. The neighbors said there was minimal noise and no added trash to the community dumpsters. The job ended within the target range. We were a bit over budget due to changes I make throughout the process (ask cost incurred when making changes). Any questions throughout the project, Huey Santos was available with advise and answers quickly via txt, email or phone. Some aspects of the remodel were challenging, and Team ECHI met the challenges head-on, with great results. They exceeded my expectations. Yes, I will call on them for handyman jobs, other projects and absolutely will recommend this company, In a world of companies who no show, do poor work, overcharge.....THIS one is a trustworthy go-to ! read more

I recently had ECHI do some work for my home renovation. I had some plumbing issues along the way with another vendor and Huey was very quick to inform me, so I could get it corrected. As stressful as the month was for me with the plumbing issues and remodeling. Everyone on the team was great to work with--very conscientious and they all seemed to genuinely care about the quality of the work. Huey was great in communication throughout the entire process. He was patient with all my questions and if there was a concern, he was prompt to put any worries to rest. They were prompt, dependable and professional. They were very reasonably priced, I would highly recommend them and if I have any future remodeling needs, -I will definitely use them for future remodel projects. read more
