The 2-hour show (with intermission) was entertaining with the setting in New Orleans. This little theater had several pluses. First, the interior space is cozy and provides a fun vibe of live theater in which audience engagement is part of the experience. Second, it's only a few blocks away from restaurants on King Street. Street parking is not difficult to find if you arrive early. Third, the overall quality of individual theatrical performances was quite good. All the performers seemed to have regular day-jobs, but love theater for its own sake (perhaps from college). The only minus is the theater seats are very close to each other (think ballpark). Thus, if you happen to sit behind someone who is really tall, it may require a bit of peeking around to see parts of the stage. Hopefully, the folks in front of you will not be tall. Would definitely return for a future performance.

I reserved my seat online (got to choose my seat!) which was for E1 Street parking in the local neighborhood. I ended up parking and walking almost a block or so. not bad When I got in , there were ppl standing around waiting to be let in the auditorium. I checked in with a woman who had a printed list of ticket holder names. The seats were very close to one another and infront and back of you. I could see the stage very well It was hard to understand what the actors were saying at times, there is a speaker but in genera I couldn't understand some of the words (plus im deaf in my right ear, so theres that) Production was for an hour. Art on the Avenue has to be one of my all-time, absolute, favorite things to do in Alexandria…read more Unfortunately it only happens once a year, so I spend the other 364 days ripping loops off my paper chain. For one day every October, Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray shuts completely down to vehicle traffic and hundreds upon hundreds of artisans and artists descend with their white, pop-up tents. They come from as nearby as Alexandria to as far away as the Northeast and the Carolinas. They come bearing oil paintings, hand-crafted jewelry, hand-sewn clothing, pottery and vases and plates, lathe-turned bowls and objets d'art, garden ornaments, Christmas ornaments, baby clothes, decorative arts, handmade stationery....I could go on, and on, and on. And you could spend hours, and hours, and hours wandering up and down Mount Vernon eying the amazing wares on display. You can buy anything from a $5 birthday card to a $5,000 watercolor of Chincoteague. Every year I come, I drop way too much money -- but my home is now hung and decorated with so many beautiful, unique items that my guests ooh and ahh over...Where'd you find that beautiful pottery soap dispenser in the guest bath? Art on the Avenue. I'd love a photo triptych of the Lincoln Memorial like the one in your den, where'd you get it? Art on the Avenue. Where'd you score that hand-stitched quilt on your bed? Art on the Avenue. I'd say half my jewelry has been collected at Art on the Avenue over the years, and people are always commenting on the unique pieces I wear. Really, there's nothing AOTA CAN'T do! Adding to the sheer delight and enjoyment are the food vendors. Yes, when you have worked up a major appetite shopping -- or window shopping -- you can stop and grab a bite from the Los Tios, or Evening Star, or Bombay Curry booths. Or you can try BBQ. Or Chinese. Or Australian meat pies. Or frozen banana on a stick. You name it, AOTA most likely serves it. Did I mention the live entertainment, from singers, to the TC Williams Orchestra, to magicians? Yeah, there's that, too. AOTA is one of THE best ways I can think of to pass a weekend day. When the weather is nice, this place is a MOB SCENE of people, but well worth braving the crowd. When the weather isn't so nice this place is still a mob scene, but a bit less so. Additionally, if they could space out number of people for each time slot. There are some people who take more photos than others and it holds the line up. The idea is fantastic and affordable for organizations that have limited amount of money to rent space for their events. My friend and I saw a performance of William Shakespeare's "Coriolanus" put on by Brave New Spirits Theatre troupe. When you have little or no budget for theater space, props, seating, stage, set, and decor, imagination is needed. The production made excellent use of space---in fact, the show spilled into the lobby area and began there. I've seen one other show in the past that did this, catching the audience by surprise and forcing an immediate immersion experience. Depending on where the audience members are standing, this yields a slightly different enactment every time, and different audiences enjoy different perspectives, which is smart. The theater is essentially a large open room with a carpeted floor and metal chairs arranged in a rectangular shape, with the four chairs on the edges turned the other direction so that the actors could sit when it wasn't their scene. There are multiple exits that make it convenient for actors to enter and depart the stage area. The props were just wooden pole. The actors put on a talented show; did not crash into each other's lines, have any awkward delays, or missed cue; and made excellent use of space and sound to deliver an engaging and meaningful performance. The actors sometimes sat right next to you and acted from the seats; others came close behind or in front of you. This is truly an intimate setting, and it would be very easy for a person in a wheelchair to find a spot to enjoy the show. There were some (likely newspaper) reviewers who were also at the show. I wonder how they perceived it; they were taking notes.

I've been to a few planetariums, but this one was pretty great, especially given it's random location. I think the person putting on the show was named Bob? Anyway, he did an awesome job. I learned and saw things I had never learned or seen before and he did a great job of explaining things without boring me and the many children in the room to death. Planetariums can make me dizzy and nauseous, also I had to look away periodically, but he moved at a pretty good pace, so I actually could enjoy much of the presentation. It was about light and went into a bit more about planets and the universe later on. I would definitely return.

My husband and I attended for the first time last night and we plan to return for the monthly presentations. The planetarium provides a small and intimate environment for families to learn about different scientific topics and study our local night sky. The planetarium is part of the Arlington Public School system and as such, hosts school aged educational programming in partnership with local schools. However, most of the cost of operating the facility and programming comes from members of the community who support via membership in the Friends of Arlington's Planetarium nonprofit organization. Volunteers actually run the monthly public outreach events. This is a great place to rediscover the beauty of the world and universe around us. There is a small parking lot outside the building and they do offer restrooms, as well as a small gift shop (table) inside. Thanks for an excellent evening. We will be back next month! :-)
