Not service dog/mobility friendly. My partner has a service dog for PTSD, Allergy and fainting alert. Its important he has his dog. We walked in and she asked for paperwork on his dog but its unlawful to ask for registration paperwork for a service dog. The only thing that can be requested is what tasks can a SD provide or the question "what is a service dog?" You cant ask for paper work or what disability someone has. She told us that she doesnt know ADA laws but that the website "Expedia" which is what i booked though, told them they have to ask and get scannings of the paperwork. I explained that legally they cant ask for that and she went on saying "I have allergies to dogs so they allow me to ask" well legally they cant. They nearly denied us the room i paid for with no refund all because of my partners very much needed service dog. Seperate from the dog, the bathroom was COVERED in mold and German field roaches, the table in the room was broken to the point it can injure someone, tv doesnt work, bed was hard as a rock, ac didnt work, and you can hear literally every little sound from any room or outside. Echo Lodge is located in the midst of many other motels. My partner and I chose to stay here after looking at deals online for motels in the Sacramento area and seeing that this one was the lowest priced with the total coming out to about $150 for two nights' stay. When we arrived in the afternoon to check in (check in time is 2:30pm to 11:30pm, check out time is 11am), there was no one in the main office, but fortunately one of the owners or workers saw us and came over within a few minutes. I was a little surprised that we were asked to give the credit card to make payment at check in since we had already entered the credit card info online in order to book the room, but maybe it was required for the reservation so that they would have our payment info in case we no-showed. The room was fine, the air wasn't great-smelling when we first showed up but opening the windows for a while helped. There was a chair and desk, drawers, round table, a corner to hang clothes, and a bathroom, which came with a packet of conditioning shampoo, but no hand soap. There was a dead fly in the bathroom but I imagine whenever a window is open it's easy for ab bug to get in. They provide free wifi, a fridge, and a TV. My main gripe was the noisiness of the motel; sound carries really easily from the surroundings and from the room above to the room below, so as a fairly light sleeper, I was kept up at night and woken up early in the morning by the sounds of people talking, walking around, moving furniture etc. Perhaps that is the case for all the surrounding motels too, but wanted to note it in case getting a good night's rest is key for you. read more

This is a great place to stay at if you want a decent room for a cheap price. Me and three friends stayed in two separate rooms next to each other with King size beds. When we first got there, there was a power outage but the employee still offered to check us in. Thankfully the power came on about 20 or so minutes after we brought our bags in. AC was strong, newer TVs mounted to the wall, fridge and microwave combo. I believe the place was newly renovated. Everything seemed to be in working order until my partner noticed a cockroach in our bathroom. We brought it up to the front desk and they offered us another similar room a few doors down. The rooms had a bit of a smell despite it being non-smoking. The carpet seemed like it needed a wash and the bedsheets seemed clean enough, but we chose to use our own sheets on top. There was an ice machine, but it wasn't working the one time I tried using it. The rooms stayed cold though despite it being in the 100s the three days we were there. In the bathroom we got two standard bath towels, a few face towels, soap, and shampoo. The bathtub, toilet, and sink were spotless. The TV was easy to turn on and look through, but there were limited channels. There's also a room service menu if you're interested, and a tiny hallway to put your bags and hang your clothes. Both sides of the bed also had moveable lamps. The curtains were effective at keeping the room dark. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, but its on motel row. The back of our room faced a wall, and on the other side was a gas station. Someone could sneak their way in between the wall and our window if they wanted, but there was limited lighting. The walls were also pretty thin so we could clearly hear the people next door. On our last night, my partner found another cockroach in our new room near the bed. We were glad to finally check out the next day, and he noted how uncomfortable he felt with some of the workers sort of staring us down as were leaving the rooms over the weekend and packing our car to leave. Overall, this place is decent, clean for the most part, and a good deal. But the fact that we found two cockroaches and couldn't find an entry point was worrisome. Staff was friendly enough, but probably a better choice if you're only staying a night or two. read more

A trip to Sacramento had my friend and I spending a night at the Echo Lodge. An honest review of a not-so terrible not-so great experience. Would recommend to those with light pockets but not if you're planning a multi day trip. Positive Points: Clean - No obvious fresh dirt/grime of any kind. No bugs. Wi-Fi - Always a plus and the TV was good quality. Ok channels too Fridge/Microwave - Very Helpful since we brought tons of food and drink items Bathroom - Clean towels. Clean shower. Hot water. Negative Points: Smelly - two hours of keeping the window open and some perfume helped immeasurably Outdated/Used Up - The top bedding had TONS of old stains and even a cigarette hole. Come on now! ( I want to note that the bottom bedding + sheets looked fine). Pillows were either too flat or lumpy. Noise - the sound of mating humanoids, stomping, and loud snoring kept me up all night. This is not a place for a relaxing getaway... Endnotes: We wanted a cheap clean room with a bed and bathroom and essentially we got exactly that. You get what you pay for. My advice would be to bring your own bedding and some febreeze. The staff lady is nice. Neighborhood is alright not too shady like I was expecting. (Wal-Mart and other groceries are nearby another plus). read more

I thought about taking off one star because the carpet at the door really needs a cleaning in 107 and the fridge was unplugged. We should have checked but forgot. Maybe it is policy to unplug them? Other than that I agree with the 5 stars this place gets for VALUE. It is a bare bones budget motel that has comfortable beds with two large firm pillows and two small soft pillows as well as a CLEAN BATHROOM! On the PLUS SIDE there is a double power outlet above EACH nightstand in room 107! Charging everything is GREAT! Even some high dollar hotels do not have this convenience. It made me forgive them for the carpet and unplugged fridge! The bath sink is a small wall mount. But that lack of counter space is made up for by having the TABLE and a DESK. And there are two chairs! It is cute and clean. We had flower print sheets that didn't match BUT WERE CLEAN AND FIT THE BED! There are no pictures on the walls. I couldn't care less. The TV was big and old. We never turned it on! Couldn't care less about TV either! This is a clean comfortable room with a deadbolt even though the neighborhood looked fine. It is in a less crowded area making driving and parking more convenient. We were in town to go to Ikea and this was a perfect spot to rest before a long day of shopping! I believe the family that manages it are the owners and as usual that will account for the friendly helpful attitude and better condition of a budget motel. I was skeptical of all the big ratings but it really is a great budget motel! We will definitely stay again on our next trip to Ikea! Oh I also wanted to mention there are room service MENUS IN THE ROOMS. Good assortment. Each restaurant charges about $6 for delivery and has a minimum order of $16-18. Cute little motel located in West Sac. Not the greatest part of town, but not the worst either. Manager ( an older gentleman ) was very kind, and even rearranged my reservation for me free of charge when I selected more days on Expedia than I wanted. Rooms here are pretty minimalist but have a cute charm to them at the same time. Relatively inexpensive rooms ( $60 nighty including tax ) and very well lit at night. This is my second stay at the Echo Lodge, a very economically priced motel on "motel row" in Sacramento. The Gujarati Hindu proprietor remembered me from my last visit including personal information I had shared on my first visit. His friendly, personal touch made me feel welcome and appreciated as a customer. Sometimes Indian proprietors can come across as distant or a bit cold, but this is a cultural difference between Hindus and Americans. We Americans are socialized to be everyone's friend instantly for five minutes. Hindus, however, are socialized to be careful whom they befriend, and they tend to be a bit standoffish at first. Once they know you, it's a different matter entirely, and then they can become friends for life. The motel offers few amenities, but the rooms are clean and include a microwave and refrigerator. Be sure to plug in the refrigerator right away if you want to freeze ice or keep beverages cold. Per "Hotel Impossible" I'd recommend ditching the old-fashioned, unsanitary bed covers in favor of a simple open bed. Free WiFi and parking are nice, but a coffee maker to heat water for coffee or tea would be a welcome addition that wouldn't be too costly to add. read more

I don't understand why this place is open. It doesn't even deserve 1 star. I was scared when I got to the hotel, it looked like a hotel from a horror movie. The room smelled funky, the carpet was dirty and so was the restroom. My room was located on the first floor and whoever stayed above us sounded like they had a stomping challenge the whole night! We booked this hotel through Booking.com. We just went with what was cheapest, and didn't really think about what it looked like or where it could be located. It was in a scummy part of town, but not the worst I have seen. Pro is that is was near a really good sushi place we tried out, and there is HBO provided. The TV in the room was modern. Everything else? I feel like I was in the 70s. Everything was mustard yellow. The sheets were cheap and had patterns instead of plain white like 99.9% of other places go with, and the beds felt more like twin beds compared to what I would assume should have been queens. One of the beds had a grainy feel in the bed, like either someone went to the beach and put some sand on the bed or they had a cat who put cat litter on the bed. The room smelled of piss. There was a mystery water stain that wasn't that close to either the bathroom or mini fridge. There was a spider in the room that we had to get out. They didn't provide more than a couple towels, which had stains on them. The toilet was always running. If you are desperate and just need a place to stay for the night, I guess this is a "fine" option. However, please look a little harder and pay a little more for a nicer place. I think if this place updated a lot more of the room, it would be better (such as more modern sheets/blankets, or changing out the carpet). read more

At first glance, the motel looked pretty iffy from the outside so we were hesitant to try the place out. However, it was late so we decided to stick with the place. I'm glad we did. Things you need to know: Clean bathroom Strong shower pressure Effective AC Clean sheets (we were expecting stains, so we checked all over) Microwave and fridge Comfortable pillows The only bad thing was that we wanted a nonsmoking room and it still reeked of cigarette smoke. Took me in at 5am tired and road weary after having had 3 places tell me they were booked. Bob was awake, calm and helpful. Would def recommend budget or otherwise. Room itself was clean -- motel itself very freshly painted and clean. Moved to a different room after they told me a one bed would be the same price I paid when I came in. The room I was moved to had a heavy electrical current running through it -- audible buzzing noise through the walls and could actually feel it while lying there. Let them know I have certain physical conditions which would make this unacceptable and they refused to move me to a different room saying they were all booked up even though the parking lot was virtually empty. Staff seemed to get even more rude and antagonistic as stay progressed with 3 cleaning ladies and hospitality all standing only a few feet around my door talking loudly in Spanish and watching as I transferred my things. When it came time for check out, I asked if I could have a slightly later checkout as I was kept up by the loud pacing above my room from the paper thin flooring between me and the upstairs room and again, loud buzzing sound. They asked through the door if I had paid instead of giving me a little more time and instead of moving to the next rooms to clean, stood right outside the door and kept talking. I opened the door to leave with their cleaning cart right outside and they just stared at me while trapped by it instead of letting me get out with my stuff. This place went from good to god awful virtually overnight. Will never be back. The super loud buzzing noise throughout the building is enough to make any stay super uncomfortable, but pair it with an incredibly rude and antagonistic staff and you'd probably be better served at a roadside campground. read more

Pros: $37 rate (booked online), clean & spacious room, friendly staff, free Wifi, microwave & mini-fridge, working desk and dining table, quiet at night, not many shady guests, good shower pressure, good restaurants and stores within a two mile radius. . For the price this place is so worth it! The place is run by an Indian family, they are so friendly, excellent customer service. Our rooms were actually super clean! I was shocked, I was expecting stains and such but it was very clean! Checked the bed, the pillows, the bathroom. Even then after I still sanitize the whole room just because of my paranoia :3 But very very clean. They actually have a microwave and a mini fridge! The microwave was clean, I'm not sure if both work since we didn't use it. The TVs were out dated, older, but that's fine, they have cable, it does the job and it's not like we were staying at a super luxurious hotel. Working WIFI, yessss, and it was actually fast too. Because I am not from West Sacramento I am not sure how the area is, but while we were there we came back to the room at 3-4 a.m. the street wasn't that bad. There was only teenagers on their bikes riding by, but other than no loiterers, prostitutes or anything. I guess it's best to check in early, when we checked in at 4 p.m. there wasn't that many people there but when we came back that night the whole parking lot was filled up. What I did notice was that during the daytime we checked out at 10 a.m. (not mandatory, we just had to go somewhere else, and to get brunch) there was quite a few homeless people along the W Capitol street. None of them were hanging out in front of Echo Lodge which was good. Good value for the price, will definitely come back here if we're in the area. read more

I absolutely love this motel! This is my second time staying here, this time for an extended period, and the rooms are just as big and clean as I remembered them to be. The wonderful couple who runs the motel are always a pleasure to talk to, and they always make sure you are comfortable and happy. If you are looking for a peaceful, safe, and affordable place to rest your head of this is it. It is obvious that Bob (the owner) really makes an effort to keep the Echo Lodge several steps above the rest, and I truly believe it is the best motel on West Capital Ave, and there are a lot of them. I really enjoyed this place. Not to be confused with the "EconoLodge". It is a mom and pop operation. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Stayed here twice. Do not expect the Four Seasons = there is no pool. But it has exactly what you need if you are traveling through town and need a place to hang your hat for a few hours. Usually it is not too crowded the neighborhood is really safe because it is on a busy street so any riff-raff will be just walking by. The parking lot is open space so you can really keep an eye on your car. Has a fridge, microwave, cable TV, shower, towels, air conditioning, free WiFi, all the basics and convenient location to a mall less than a mile away. This place is dirty!! First off, there was blonde hair all over our blankets and sheets, as if the bed was just made after the last person left. The sheets and pillows had stains all over them. Our fridge smelled as if someone left rotten food in it for months and then it was cleaned out. The bathroom was clean, but our towels were stained. One towel had red lipstick on it. The walls and ceiling are paper thin, you can hear every move the person above you is making. And to top it all off, my boyfriend and I had bug bites all over us when we woke up the next morning!!! I wouldn't recommend any one to come here. If you're coming from out of town and never been to Sacramento, like us, find somewhere else. read more

I grew up in West Sacramento so I am very familiar with all the hotels and their problem. I was very wary and sceptic about this place. We decided to try it. Boy was I greatly surprised. If you are expecting high class for nothing this is not your place. If you are looking for a clean simple comfortable place to stay this is it. The area is old. The hotels on West Capitol are old. Most smell bad. We are very happy with our stay. The ONLY downfall is there was no coffee maker in the room or available. But right next door there is a 24/7 mini mart that got hubby thru the coffee. They also have smoking rooms available which to normal people that do have the habit, is fantastic. Our room was non smoking and did not smell of cigarettes. I Will stay there again. But I did find it odd that there were no guests allowed. Which I came to realize was their way of protecting themselves from squatters. So if you want a clean, quiet safe place to sleep I highly recommend this. AGAIN THIS IS NOT A FANCY PLACE. BUT IT IS WORTH THE MONEY. read more

For the area, the price is very reasonable. I have been here for awhile now off and on, and the staff are as friendly as the first day I came. Bob (owner) and his family are extremely nice and helpful with my needs. In comparison to other motels I had stayed previously (one location had spider infestations inside and out and the other location had dirty rooms and I fell through their concrete stairs back in late June 2016 Motel 6 on Jibboom Street). So not even major hotel chains hold a candle to the comfort, and quiet/cozy rooms you get at Echo Lodge. I recommend this place to everyone. The person who stated something back in Dec 15 of bugs bites had to mistaken this place for another because I have stayed at opposite sides of the Lodge and no bug complaints. read more

I had to take away one star because the room my wife and I stayed in smelled with cigarettes (although it got away after we turned on the heater), the fridge barely works (we didn't have to use it so it's fine), and the stain on the chairs is a bit disgusting (it's just chair). The AC is loud which is understandable because its old, I can hear the people walking upstairs and the owner cleaning the rooms with vacuum cleaner. I had to attend a seminar in Sacramento for the whole day and left my wife in the hotel to relax. As soon as I got back, she was laughing because she said she heard a woman and man having sex upstairs with really loud moans. Oh well, what else would you expect at a cheap hotel like this. Other than that, I like the clean rest and bathroom, complete TV Channels, microwave, soft bed and pillow, friendly owners, free wifi. Also, as usual my wife brought our own bed sheet and blanket so we do not have to lay on the bed that Only God knows what types of people have been there and how it wasn't used or used. Brought our own soap, toothpaste, water, etc., the basic stuff that the hotel doesn't provide. Although they did provide 2 small soaps.
