Song selection was really darn good - lots of fun 90s alt/rock/pop-punk, a good smattering of 2000s/2010s, but way low on 80s and showtunes stuff. It's definitely not your grandpa's karaoke joint. There was a pretty heavy smell of air freshener and old tobacco smoke - I'm guessing the rooms are right over where people go for a smoke break. The Febreze was way, way heavy, and I really hope they back off of it a bit, or at least find a way to not need it in the first place. The rooms' sound systems were WAY too loud - we had to ask the guy running the place to turn it down for us, and even then it was loud. If you've got a naturally loud voice, the room will do a lot of echoing and pickup, plus the mics run hot. Go easy, give your diaphragms a break. The Japanese song selection is excellent - a big spread of anime and J-pop, enough to please any weeaboo crowd. Do bring someone who can help navigate through the book, because the system does not support searching for Japanese songs. Also be advised, if you're playing a song in a language other than English or Korean, the system will lock out artist/title searching while the song is playing. The system can be a bit tricky to figure out but once you get a few songs in, you figure it out pretty easily. The entrance is in the corner of the strip mall - hard to find, suspicious-looking, but it's legit. Just look for the KTV neon sign and you're good. The guy who runs it seems a bit gruff to start but he was ready and willing to help us out. BYOB, BYO food, which IMO is a bargain. I'd definitely hit this place up again! This is probably the only place where we can get a decent karaoke night that's close to me. The prices are not bad. The rooms are spacious, but the A/C can get really uncomfortabley cold. They use individual A/C units per room, but they don't leave the controllers for the customer to use. You'll have to ask the staff to come in and adjust it for you. It shouldn't be a big deal, but they don't get it to what you want. They'll either adjust it to be too cold or they shut it off, altogether. Could be a language barrier. It's BYOB and Food. We came prepared. The song selection is decent. They have a good mix of modern and old songs. Not enough Filipino music, though. The sound system is still good, but the controller to input the songs can be tricky. Also, some song listed in their booklets may no longer exist in the system. We've experienced it quite a number of times. We still enjoyed our time there. And we are most likely to return, especially since we don't know any other karaoke joints in my area. read more

The girls and I got together for a night of karaoke. It was $15 per person plus tax. When I arrived I had such trouble finding the place. Luckily one of the girls helped me. It is located in the same plaza of the spa and the sign isn't lit up. We walked in and the man walked us to our room. We ordered the larger room thinking more people would show but it ended up being 8 of us. The man that worked there wanted to only give us an hour but one of the girls talked to him to extend it to 2. The room was so cold and we asked if they could turn on the heat and he said "no heat." So we had to freeze until we moved around a bit. The catalog was kind of small in their book but we were able to still make due with what they had. It was an ok time that I had. read more

If you live in this area, and are with your friends who are craving a trip to K-Town in NYC for some karaoke, but do not want to drive all the way there... Echo Music Studio is your solution! Located in Pines Plaza in Edison, NJ, I first would have to say if you come here to visit the other establishments, you will not even notice a karaoke establishment being around unless you already knew about it. This is because there is no sign saying it is a karaoke spot, just a little sign above the entrance saying "KTV" . I have had people mistakenly enter the other establishments next to it looking for Echo Music Studio. Once you finally enter this single door, you go up a flight of stairs and see someone who will directly you to the appropriate room that is recommended for your party size. Once you enter your room, go start singing! This is mainly a Korean establishment owned by Korean owners, so they have a vast selection of Korean songs. However, they have multiple songbooks, a search function on the remote for the TV (for multiple languages) so you can find many songs you want. They have a nice variety of American music and even a nice selection of more recent songs within the last year or two. What also is nice is that room also has couches, a table, two mics, two tambourines, and at least in the larger rooms, have a screen in the front and back so if you are "performing" and facing the couches and your friends, you can still visually see the lyrics without turning around. This place is BYOB and food, which is great, so you can just pick up some liquor nearby and you are ready to drink, loosen up, and sing your night away! The place does have some bottle water you can purchase in case people are drinking a little too much.. But anyways, the prices are affordable per hour of room rental per person and there are around 10 to 12 rooms available at difference sizes. I would recommend trying to call ahead for a large party to try and reserve a large room and warn them ahead of time. This place is amazing. Stop at the liquor store down the block and head over to the sketchy single black door with the lit Korean lettering above it in the very corner of the shopping center. The pleasant older Asian gentleman will direct you to a lovely room with two mics, two song books, two tambourines, two t.v.'s and a karaoke machine. He can also supply a bottle opener if you need one. The funniest part is the song books. They're huge but 75% Korean so unless you speak and read Korean or just know a lot of Korean pop music, there isn't an extensive song choice. WARNING: NOT TRANSGENDER FRIENDLY!!! Because Echo is one of the few karaoke places available in the area, my friends and I usually default to this place and visit at least 4-5 times a year. However, the owner harasses me EVERY SINGLE TIME I visit the business. This usually entails the owner chasing me down the hallway yelling, "Woman! Woman! MEN HERE!" in an attempt to force me to use the bathroom that he believes I should be using. That is until he gives up in frustration and mutters something under his breath. Mind you, I'm a transwoman who has been transitioning for a long while and I dress overtly feminine. Despite my many attempts to tell him that, "Yes, I am a woman." or "Yes, I am using the correct bathroom." He never ceases to disappoint me in harassing me each and every visit. I try not to pay him much attention and enjoy my time because I don't want to cause a scene in front of my friends and take the fun out of the experience. However, he crossed the line yesterday. He continued the same pattern of harassing me but as he gave up, he muttered, "pervert bitch" in Korean under his breath thinking I wouldn't understand what he was saying. I was infuriated and lost my temper. I went up to him in the front desk, took out my government ID stating that I am indeed a woman, and slammed it on the counter signalling him to look at it. He kept looking up and down at my face and my ID in disbelief. I took my ID back, and stormed out with my friends. We will NEVER visit this venue EVER again. read more

Came on a cold Thursday night, and the place was empty. And still a bit cold inside. We stayed for a couple of hours and the bill came out to be about $75 for the four of us. There were a good amount of songs, though the equipment and technology was a little outdated. I like that you can bring your own food and drinks in, as it can get a bit pricey ordering bottles. I was looking for karaoke room lounge type areas around central jersey and found this absolute gem! A karaoke place like this with private rooms is pretty difficult to find outside cities like NYC and philly. I'm glad this place exists! I will say the area looks a little sketch, cuz the door is in this shady corner with Korean letters and KTV above it, you enter and go upstairs and it's a whole new world. Glowing lights and clean interior, and a friendly Korean man (I think he's the owner) to greet you. He was very helpful and showed us how to use the remote and karaoke machine! The room we got was very spacious and it was just two of us. I think it can hold up to a certain amount of people and there are larger rooms in the back. It was clean, the couches were comfortable, and there was a large table to put any food/drink, and coat hanger. It is catered to Koreans I believe as most of the machine and song book are in Korean, but there is English translation and it is pretty straight forward to understand. The owner's instructions were very good too. They have a lot of Asian songs but also are up to date on the popular American songs. It is BYOB and bring your own food which is great. They don't have alcohol I think, but they have water and some other soft beverages. All in all a very fun time! For 2 people it was $35 an hour. I will keep this place in mind next time I'm in the mood for karaoke, and maybe try to come with a larger group too. read more

Being used to going to Karaoke spots in Midtown NYC, my friend and I made the mistake of not checking hourly rates for the karaoke room. The karaoke bars in NY we usually go to are less than $10 an hour. We stayed for 2 hours and were SHOCKED by the $70 bill! That is our fault, but for the selection of songs in comparison to what we are accustomed to in the city, I wouldn't come here again. this place has the best feel to any karaoke place that I've been to on the east coast so far (aside from some of the new york ones). the entrance is very shady looking but that's about it. once you go inside, the atmosphere changes completely. they have plenty of rooms and they charge by the person to a room. I think it was 35 dollars up to the first 4 people and then the rates change (i only went with one other person so I didn't ask what happens to the rate when there are more people). the room that I went into has a big screen on the front and a smaller one in the back which mirrors the big one in the front. it's nice because you can face the audience and sing instead of having your back towards them. I also liked the fact the mics are wireless; give you the freedom to move around. the sound quality of the speakers are very good; don't really need to mix on your own. there is a BYOB policy which is surprising; I would have thought that a place like this would have their own alcohol so that they can make some money but, to a customer, this is a big bonus. if you're in the area and love singing, I would highly recommend. read more

We saw the sign outside but the door was in the corner which led directly to a staircase where an employee greeted us and informed us we were in the right place for karaoke. First of all, I didnt even know Edison had karaoke rooms in the area and I was ECSTATIC (call it my inner Filipino cheering). This place is very spacious and each party has their own private room with couches, a table, a tambourine, and a pretty good selection of songs if you ask me. They had songs from multiple countries, though mainly Korean, as well as a lot of newer pop songs. I know I can bring both my friends and my parents here and both would have a great time because of the wide variety of songs available. Just keep in mind that sometimes the songs are listed under different artists for some reason. One example being I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables was listed with Susan Boyle as the artist. As for pricing, it's pretty reasonable if you split the cost. The cost is based on # of people per hour. With 6 of us in 2 hours, it came out to $90 or $15 per person.The one thing we didn't know is that it seems you can bring your own food and drinks and more or less have your own party there. We could hear the room next to us singing pretty clearly and they had brought their food. I'll keep that in mind the next time I get my karaoke on! read more

We planned a bachelorette party here and found this place on yelp. It was pretty hard to reach them since their business hours are opposite normal business hours. When we finally reached them we found out they don't open until sat evening and we needed the room earlier. When we explained our situation the owner agreed to open up early just for us without an additional charge(5 stars!!). The rooms however are a little dated and is in dire need of some renovations. They should also spruce up the entry way. The place seems to have potential and we had a great time there but I really can't get myself to give it any higher of a rating. read more

This place offers songs in many different languages. It's basically English and a few East Asian languages such as Korean, Japanese, and Chinese (there are a few others as well). I mostly sang in English. I noticed that there was not much of a variety in English songs. Majority of them were older songs that were very popular. They do not have a lot of new ones. However the Korean songs were updated very well. I would sing more often in Korean if I could read fast enough -.- But oh well. Everything is right in the world when I moonwalk in a disco filled private room singing Man in the Mirror by the King of Pop himself. I even got the whole "ow! Ugh! Hehe!" thing perfected. Throw in a bunch of my coworkers after a long day's hard work and the funny as hell memories start to pile up. Seriously Echo Music Studio is a hidden gem in the middle of Route 27 in Edison, NJ. It's owned by a Korean business owner and the whole place really feels like it's been transported from K-Town in NYC to humble little Edison. It's located in the Pines Plaza next to a spa, urgent care center, and restaurants. The studio is located on the second floor. There are approximately ten rooms for rent and one giant party room that can hold over 30 people. I wouldn't recommend it because it just feels like a giant hall to hold a party. The room that my group got was for 15 people and I tell you we were more than comfortable in there. When you first walk through the door and up the stairs you instantly know that this place is different. It's bright (like neon lights everywhere bright) and at the top of the stairs is a flat screen playing K-pop....go figure. Then you go into the room and you are greeted with a huge table in the middle, comfy lounges, two flat screens, disco lights, two microphones, two tambourines, and one remote that might take some time getting used to if you're not familiar. As for me karaoke is second nature and I had no problem finding the songs and showing others how to as well. Since this place is BYO everything we had plenty of snacks and alcohol to fuel the shenanigans that arose. We sang everything from Let It Go to Faithfully to All About that Bass! Everyone genuinely had fun and by the end of the night I barely had any voice left. Still I was never gonna surrender that easily so for the last song everyone helped out with Barbie Girl and that right there is the very reason why karaoke is loads of fun and why cell phones should not be allowed to record any of said embarrassing moments! read more

Organized a birthday karaoke party for my hubby. We had about 17 people and were able to comfortably fit in the room supposedly for 15 capacity. Room seats about 14-15. There was also a huge sturdy wooden table available which I was really happy with since I brought food for all the guests so we had something to place the food and cake. Establishment was also BYOB so worked out perfectly for me. Overall we had a great time. There is something about the acoustics in the room and with the background song music sounding like the actual radio version, it helped us maintained the melody. The voices were projected pleasantly which we all sounded awesome compared to other karaoke joints. Not sure how else to explain but overall the karaoke system seemed to enhanced our voices.
