His story is as powerful as the pour: after a career-ending injury at Rutgers, he has gone on to become a motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and a member of the New Jersey Hall of Fame. They must take pool very seriously here as they have a few trophies displayed on the back wall. The highlight was watching the bartender make popcorn on a jiffy pop hot plate in the center of the bar. However, me and Drusband were in no rush to go home last weekend after grabbing a few slices of pizza next door (please respect our privacy) and we saw that Sip City (or Sit N Spin as I like to call it to gross my brother out) was in day 2 of a soft launch. The place was bright, open, nice seating, and inviting. Instantly, a solid 10 points above a similar concept over on Elizabeth Ave (read my earlier review of that one. Blech). The inventory is heavy on wine and spirits - I found the cold beer case disappointing. But but but the pour it yourself backbar beers were much more tantalizing. They had me at the Sloop juicy hazy IPA. One of my faves! A very nice employee had to come over to activate the taps for us - I'm not sure if that's just for right now during the soft launch or if once things are rolling they'll always just be on but it was pretty painless all the same. We sat down on one of the couches - shout to accessible, ample seating - and talked with the employee about the upcoming grand opening and their fantastic business during the NBA playoffs. However, nestled in the middle of the Cedar Grove Center is this new lounge that is part liquor store, part bar, and part self-serve lounge! The liquor offers all the normal essentials, as does the bar, serving a variety of mixed drinks. However, the real star of the show is the self serving area. Taking up an entire wall, the main display offers a myriad of craft and domestic beers from all over. Each one has a "tap to pay" station where you tap your card and serve yourself however much beer you want. All of it is portioned out by price and amount and as you pour, your total appears on the screen. The screens also include the name, price, and ABV for each type. There is even a station for non-drinkers! This is great for those trying to budget and/or not wishing to overindulge. I've also never seen anything like it! Then, you take your drinks and you can sit anywhere in the facility to enjoy. They also allow you to order and bring in outside food. Which means, in a strip mall that has Moe's tacos, a pizza place, and an Indian spot--the options are endless! Today, we went with Moe's and it hit the spot! The bartender Kat was super friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be back!!
