Looking for a quiet weekend away from the hustle and bustle of NYC seemed to become a bit of a task solely because we wanted to bring along our big 100lb puppy. Called up spoke to Hiram who informed me he more than welcomes pets of any size as long as temperament and papers were good. Perfect! Very informative on phone about rooms, booked online for 3 adults 2 kids and dog. Booking and deposit easy. Arrived later in day then anticipated, Hiram contacted us the day of reservation, which was nice, letting us know our cottage was ready and awaiting our arrival. Gave him our eta, arrangements made allowing us to settle in on our later then expected arrival. Hiram came by to greet us gave a full disclosure run down of the property and let us know he was at our call 24/7. Cottage was a 2 bedroom one bath, screened sun porch. Clean with the basics beds, fridge, stove top, toaster oven utensils pots pans bowls and plates. Beautiful well kept grounds, pond and stream behind cottage made for a relaxing environment. Didnt realize when booking that it is centrally located to plenty of attractions and things to do. Market bars and restaurants near by as well. As this was a short weekend getaway, we pretty much stocked up for 2 days, relaxed walked leisurely along the stream and woods there. Kids played on the play set little game of mini golf. There were many other cottages occupied but very quiet, cold maybe kept every one in. Fire pit at night roasted marshmallows. All in all a relaxed quiet weekend great surrondings. As the wife put it, its not the Waldorf-Astoria but for that we would have stayed at the Waldorf. We wanted simple rustic tranquility and thats what we got. The owner is very nice and polite. In this time of covid the place wasn't as clean as it should be. It wasn't as clean as it should be for anytime really. There was mold all in and around the shower and the bathroom was pretty disgusting overall. The wood work was caked with dirt and hair. These cabins are very over prices for what they are. The inside of the freezer had hair in it and wasn't very clean. We booked this place because they allowed dogs. We had to pay an extra fee of $75 per dog for an extra $150 on top of the $200 a night. The cabins are dated which I could deal with if the place was clean. The bedroom had an odor of cat urine. My dog chews a bone and he must have been chewing it on the blanket and put a hole in the blanket. I was charged an additional $100 for a blanket even though I paid $150.00 dog fee. Then I was told by the owner I should have said something. I had no idea it happened. The place is quiet but we wont be back. Great place to stay if you love piss and $hit on the floor/toilet. Absolutely disgusting and owner is a glorified slum lord. I went on a walk through of the bridge cottage weeks before I was supposed to move in and it was dated; but looked ok. I showed up a few weeks later and was repulsed by the living conditions. Piss was all over the floor around the toilet, bloody dental floss was on the floor of the bedroom, the refrigerator had shelf's broken off with sticky looking residue streaking down the inside, mouse turds under the sink, and stains on the sofa. The mattress was also an old lumpy spring mattress from the 80's that I was told I needed to bring my own sheets, pillows, and towels for the bedroom/bathroom. There was supposed to be internet in the cottage and was told that I needed to get an internet extender since the modem/router was in a different cottage and could not reach. I told/showed the owner Hiram about everything I had found; including left over beer in the fridge. He told me that his cleaning lady had cleaned it and didn't know anything about it. I told him that I was not going to stay in that filth for the next month. He then showed me the Deerfield cottage. We opened the door and tried the lights; they don't work. Go to the bedroom and again a spring mattress from 1980 with pubic dust bunnies all over the floor. Went to the bathroom and once again $hit all over the base of the toilet with, you guessed it; more pubes. Utterly revolting!! I showed Hiram and he asked me if it was a deal breaker. I said undoubtedly yes it was!! He stormed off down the road in his yellow jeep and I left. I contacted my boss who had prepaid for me to stay there; since we had business in the area and needed to be in the area for a few months. He contacted Hiram who told him that he could not be refunded for the month. Hiram did admit to my boss that he had let a few guys stay there the weekend before and they must have left the beer/pissed on the floor. He is a crook and the place should be condemned. Do NOT stay there!!!! I didn't get the chance to take any pictures of the first cottage, but below are pictures of the second cottage he tried to put me in. Nowhere near as bad as the first, but still unacceptable!!! read more

Don't waste your time, money or energy on this place. The pictures are very misleading! We arrived to the overwhelming smell of stale cigarettes, a dead mouse in the porch trash can, old snacks/food in every room, an eyelash hanging on the shower curtain ....nastiness in EVERY ROOM!! Thankfully, we overpacked, because we had to do some light cleaning(with lysol/bleach wipes) before we even unpacked. Although there were 2 bathrooms, only one shower was actually usable, because the upstairs one didn't drain. Interesting enough, the property manager told use we had to check out on time because there was another rental right after us....wonder if they found all of the treasures that we did!! I know that it's not a 5 Star hotel, but I think we expected more based on the pictures we saw, but it was such a bust! Oh...and you have to bring your own linen..but check your bill cuz they charge you, even though it says it's available for a fee. read more

The image of the cottage on line is deceiving. Place smelled of mold and mildew. There were broken lamps being used. Oven door handle was broken. Furniture damp. There were no fire detectors at all in the cottage. The toaster oven was so dirty, left over food in the bottom. I tried to clean so it could be used but not much luck. There was mold on the toilet. The ac unit was caked with dust and dirt. And the list goes on... The owner was not in site. I would not ever recommend this place to anyone. I did contact the owner once I was home and cooled down. Explained about all the items and how unacceptable. His excuse was I didn't give him a chance to rectify anything. How do you rectify... mold , mildew , broken items, etc so we can stay? I requested only 1 day refund for the day we left early. He mentioned he would have to think about it, I gave him a week to follow up. He did not. That shows how much he cared. "Relax and be at peace" is the motto here and that was precisely my experience. I was looking for a small cottage in the Poconos with a wood-burning fireplace and a full working kitchen for an extended weekend getaway. The cottage also needed to be affordable, pretty secluded, flexible with check-in/check-out times, and close to walking/hiking trails. Echo Valley Cottages covered just about all of those requirements! Everything was super clean, kitchen pantry had every pan and gadget you might need and made cooking here during my four day stay easy. Free WiFi, $20 for a bundle of wood that lasted the entire weekend, individual controls for heat in every living area, a mini golf course & volleyball net on premises, large pond located right outside of the cottage, staff was awesome....I can go on and on with the good things...... but we've reached the part of the review where I find something to complain about (but not enough to leave anything less than a 5-star review). --Not as secluded as I thought. There's a Wawa and a Foodtown a little over a mile away. That said, the cottages themselves are nestled in a wooded area near some residential homes. It was quiet and peaceful and from the porch you could hear a tiny waterfall nearby. --Upgraded without prior notice. Who complains about an upgrade??? Probably only me. Here's the thing, I ended up renting the "Bridge Cottage", which is their smallest cottage. I wanted small and cozy for a reason so was a little disappointed to find out, only upon arrival, that I've been "upgraded" to one of their largest properties - a two story cottage. It didn't take me long to get over that disappointment and enjoy cooking in a much larger kitchen. --Going buggy. I mentioned everything was super clean but the second floor was not "taken care of" before our arrival. I went up there to open some windows to air out the place and found a ladybug on the windowsill. Big deal, I'm in the country and ladybugs are friggin' cute! But then I spotted another "ladybug", then a dozen, then lost count. They were on the ceiling, on the window screens, on the bedspread, belly-up on the carpet. Eek! I also realized those probably aren't ladybugs but the invasive Asian lady beetles coming in to stay warm. I locked all the doors leading to the second floor and never went back up there the entire weekend. Downstairs this was not an issue. Would definitely stay here again and can see it being a lot of fun in the warmer months. read more

We booked because this location was pet friendly. Hiram the owner was onsite when we arrived. Texted we could check in early. Gave us the run down upon arrival. We stayed in 106 and it was perfect for us. Its not a 5 star hotel. It's Very quaint and modest and covers the basics. You're in the mountains. It was perfect for our needs and met my expectations. Where to begin? Cigarette scented cabin, with an emmaculate dust coated decorations. The filthy window shades and stained bathroom vanity truly ties the room together. Let's not forget the dead fly carefully sqaushed against the shower wall. We left after one night didn't bother getting our money back. We returned home today from our stay. We had a really nice time. Hiram was a very very nice man. The cabin was cute. It needed a really deep clean but it was clean. The kitchen was stocked with pots and pans dishes utensils and glasses. The heat worked very well so we were not cold. The property was very nice and after i finally settled my self down after freaking out that it was reminiscent of camp crystal lake i was able to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. In the morning i stepped out to sip my coffee and a big old beautiful dog came across the lawn to greet me. He said hello and went on his way. Sweet old guy. We really enjoyed our stay and we will be back again. I wanted to mention the cottage was a bedroom bathroom livingroom kitchen and screened in porch...for the same price as a hotel room in that area. I had all this space and privacy without the noise of people going up and down the halls or neighbors being roudy. It really was the better choice in my oppinion. Also as i said..Hiram was like an old friend he came in said hello and left but was always just a phone call away. Im glad i found this little gem of a place tucked in the woods. It's a vintage cottage in the heart of the Poconos. The owner (Hiram) was very down to earth and accommodating. They had WiFi throughout the house and cable hooked up to the television downstairs. There is only one TV in the house (living room) but it doesn't matter because if you're going to the Poconos, your plans shouldn't be to sit in the house all week. The kitchen was fully equipped with pots and pans and there was a frozen lake behind the house that looks like it would be beautiful once the spring rolls around. The next time I go to the Poconos, I will definitely call Hiram again. read more

Pictures are deceiving. Reviews I read here and elsewhere do not appear to be written by actual guests. Cabin was filthy. There were bugs smashed on the walls,that were coming in from poorly sealed window AC. The unit was outdated and vents were smashed preventing cold air from circulating the cottage. I picked up a newspaper that was left on microwave cart in kitchen,after a load of dust fell off I noticed it was from 2002. We would not sit on the living room furniture. The ceiling above tub/shower was full of all kind of gobs of dried on goop. The fire pit area was a nice touch. Pool was nice and clean and the mini golf course was great. The owner was nice enough. Maybe he hasn't been in the cabins to see the lack of attention to details. read more

I spend my 4th of July weekend here with my husband and a couple of friends as a little get away from our usual busy life in New York, it was the "Perfect Place" for all of us. Lots of activities in the area for everyone, waterpark, gun range, paintball, bumper cars, restaurants, supermarket...etc. We even had access to the pool after we checked out from our Cottage. We had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable time at Echo Valley Cottages. We took advantage of the swimming pool, mini golf course, fishing pond and BBQ grill. Most of all the cottage had everything we needed to be able to sit, read, listen to the sounds of nature and generally "get away from it all." The kitchen is fully equipped with all pots, pans, dishes, glassware and utensils. There is a stove, microwave, toaster, toaster oven and coffee maker. There are the little touches like free Wi-Fi and the attractive decor that show an attention to detail. The cottages are conveniently located near many of the Poconos attractions and activities. There is no doubt we would like to return next year. read more

While Hiram was nice and personable, we had a non- working refrigerator and had some of our meat and other foodstuffs spoil. When informed of this, Hiram did not really respond either to replace the cost of our lost food or provide any other kind of reduction in our bill. For what it is, the place is too pricey and needs more and better upkeep. Things were worn out, like the barbecue grill, which looked like someone had thrown a rotted food grenade in it and left it! Disgusting! The radio didn't work, clocks and lamps were broken, etc. etc. On the whole, the place is pretty run down and has loads of room for improvement. They had a lot of gall emailing me trying to get us to return and waste more money. One of the few good things is they are cat friendly. That's about the best thing I can say about Echo Valley Cottages! read more

My wife and I stayed here for a week in September 2014. We WOULD stay here again but... It's an on-the-cheap experience. Be prepared for that. Everything is old, but that's okay. The kitchen is pretty minimally equipped -- a sad little Black and Decker countertop oven, ancient appliances, a sketchy electric stove (some burners worked reliably, others didn't), no large bowls, limited utensils, child-size flatware, a toaster that wouldn't pop up and which had no toast darkness control, no potholders, no cheese grater, dull knives, insufficient dish soap, very low-end pots and pans (poor condition, warped, thin), and no cutting board. The mattresses were in good condition. If you like sleeping sweaty, you'll appreciate that the mattresses were wrapped in plastic. None of the sinks in the unit were equipped with the ability to stopper them, including the kitchen sink, calling on our creativity to rig it so we could wash dishes. The DVD player did not work. POSITIVES: Management was friendly and accessible. The unit was clean. The area was quiet and great for sleeping. We had a toilet leak problem that management fixed promptly. The WiFi worked fine. There was plenty of hot water and the water pressure was fine. Our 50-lb dog was readily accepted as a guest. Next time, we'd come a bit better prepared to stay here by bringing a fair amount of our own stuff to compensate for what's not on hand here. read more
