We last minute needed to drive to NJ to pick up a cat (as one does) and we decided instead of making a long trek home and back, to make it a quick weekend getaway. This bed and breakfast was very close to where we needed to go. The room is spacious with a nice bathroom attached. Downstairs in the common area is very welcoming. When I came downstairs after a pretty miserable drive where it rained the entire time, we were starving and wondering what might still be open. The owner was chatting with people in the dining room and went through a map and menus of nearby places to try out. Breakfast the next morning is community style where you may be sitting across another guest at your table. Breakfast was delicious and included in house prepared pound cake. They asked if we wanted the meat or vegetarian quiche ahead of time and since we couldnt decide we got both and split both haha. We came up during winter when there was still snow on the ground, and when we showed up it was rainy and dark, but in the light of day next morning we could see that the grounds were beautiful. What a treat to stay in this well appointed B&B with a homey feel. We were welcomed by the innkeeper, Irene, who made us feel comfortable with her warm manner and great stories. The grounds are peaceful, with a nice little woods path, and pool to sit by serenely. We booked our stay since it's central to some of New Jersey fine multi use trails so we could bicycle. It was the perfect location as everything, including dinner on Lake Mohawk, was just about 20 minutes away. After a delightful day of biking, we could retire to our comfy rooms with in room fridge so we had our own beverages for happy hour. The Inn Keepers are focused on details and making sure you have a wonderful stay. The rooms are special. We stayed in the Mallard. All the rooms are named after types of ducks. The staff takes pride in making the process during the pandemic extra safe. No contact check-in. Face coverings when in public spaces, no touch hand sanitizer in all the high touch areas. The Inn is spotless. We really enjoyed the pool during the "dog days" of summer. From coffee by the pool in the morning before breakfast to afternoon and evening swims. Next to the pool are bird feeders that attract some of the most beautiful birds. We especially liked watching the goldfinches. The home cooked breakfast is awesome. Each day we chose the chefs special, you can't go wrong, but there are other choices if you have any dietary restrictions. If you enjoy a walk in the woods, they have trails that start just outside the front door or you can cross the road and enter a state park. We enjoyed every aspect of the Wooden Duck Inn. Fantastic weekend. I spent hours looking for a secluded place with good size rooms to get a break from reality and still feel safe during Covid. This place delivered. Huge room, wonderful breakfast and backed up to the woods. I loved sitting at the pool to read watching the very small birds eat at the feeder. They had a kuerig station with water and sodas to enjoy. Also loved the cookies at check in . These are the things that bring you back The owners were super friendly and had everything set up so you were never close to anyone. Breakfast was sign up for time and location to eat on the first floor. You could use the bikes on the trails if you were up for it. Everything was clean and sanitized. Beautiful B&B!! We stayed here as part of our annual leaf peeping trip -usually we head up to Stowe VT area but this year we were getting a later start so we thought we'd head south a little ways. Newton, NJ is a really pretty area this time of year. The drive on Goodale Street to the B&B was exceptionally beautiful and wooded. The B&B is situated on a beautiful lot, with a wooded area behind the premise that you can hike through to get to other trails, including the rail trail system. We hiked this upon arrival because it was so nice out and we made it to the "Ruins" which was fun and eerie to walk around and snap pictures of. MaryAnn and Jason are hospitable and welcoming innkeepers. When we called to make reservations, they inquired if there are any allergies. I am lactose intolerant but usually make do with just eating a Lactaid pill most of the time. However, MaryAnn said she would have almond milk for our stay for my coffee and to make certain dishes. She is so accommodating. The room was very comfortable and large, equipped with a mini fridge, soaker bathtub, shower and a double-sided fireplace. I didn't want to leave the comfort of the room!! MaryAnn and Jason had recommendations for places to eat, including a full array of menus from various local dining spots, which came in useful! Breakfasts were the best -they filled you up more than you could imagine! Starting with a slice of pumpkin cranberry bread and followed by a fruit dish and then the main course. The B&B is only an hour 15 minutes from the city so we drove into NYC for a Saturday while staying here. It was a rainy day in NJ, so rather than hiking around in the drizzle, driving the hour to the city made for a great getaway. I would highly recommend staying at this B&B if you are in the area! So much beauty surrounds this place -the multitude of hiking and canoeing that is available is wonderful. And MaryAnn and Jason make wonderful hosts at the Wooden Duck. read more

But beyond all of that, Jason and Maryann are wonderful people who truly think of everything and work so hard to make you feel at home. We had to travel to the area suddenly because of a death in the family and took over about half of the inn with our very large group, which had people arriving at all hours. Absolutely perfect! My husband and I took a mid-week spur of the moment trip and stumbled upon this gem. Every room in The Wooden Duck is beautifully decorated and very well kept. The TV area on the main floor was our favorite- we watched three movies over the course of our stay! They have a great movie and game collection! We enjoyed the special treats station throughout the day: cookies, pretzels, chocolates, tea, hot chocolate, sodas. There is a trail in walking or short driving distance. Many other activities in the area: antique shops, horse back riding, zip lining, wolf preserve, wineries. Great location! Breakfast was unique and tasty both days, and included 3 courses: a muffin/baked good, fruit dish, and main course, juice and coffee/tea. We stayed in the Mallard on the second floor. Our room was very comfortable, with a fire place. From the pics I thought it would be small, but it was a nice size. A nice size flat screen tv in the room too, with a desk area and fireplace seating. I would recommend if you want to take a nice bath, to stay in one of the rooms on the main floor, or carriage house. Maryann and Jason were very sweet hosts. Encouraging us to relax and to get comfortable! They gave us plenty of space and were also very enjoyable to talk to. My husband and I really had a lovely time. You must visit this B&B! read more

My wife and I stayed here all too briefly. The location was chosen primarily because it was close to some relatives, and we were just there overnight. What an amazing bed and breakfast. The rooms are immaculate. We stayed upstairs in the Carriage House. Very large. Very well adorned. Simply gorgeous. When we awoke in the morning, we were taken aback by the lovely way the property is nestled into the surrounding countryside. The foliage was lush. The wildlife abundant. Truly a definition of serene. Beth was a most gracious host, easily accommodating my wife's dietary restrictions and our early-morning departure. The main house was every bit as well-furnished as I would have expected. The next time my travels take to this part of New Jersey, we'll stay here again. Waited a long time for the opportunity to try this bed & breakfast. Wanted to visit this place since I saw it on a local travel site a year or so back and this Valentine's Day was the chance and the wife and I took it. Off the bat the owners have a great presentation and are very warm. Karl Krummel, one of the owners, has the disposition of a wonderful uncle or grandfather. He is intent on being right there and on top of anything you may need and his pride in this establishment beams through. I mention this because it was the most striking part of our experience at this B&B. Feeling like you matter is an essential part to any exercise in commerce, and, when apparent, will propel such to a level where you aren't just satisfied, but appreciative of the efforts of others. The operation has a great web presence, which is what caught my eye at first. The photos of the room we stayed in were an accurate depiction of what we walked into. Which is great because so much of our decision making is made on websites anymore, and, regardless of what one is purchasing, it isn't always the case that the experience matches the billing and pamphleture. Our room, named Wood, was clean and comfortable. The bed linens were robust and appropriate for the time of year, the furnishings were quaint and fit the style of the room. Each room has a tv, of course, and Direct TV. We didn't have time to use it, but it was there, so.... The breakfast component of the Bed & Breakfast deal was very enjoyable. In the main house is the dining room. Three tables are set within it and breakfast is served to the visitors in shifts that accommodate eight patrons at a time. This ensures that the staff is not unable to property serve the customers. The facility was full during our stay and we were offered a choice of times for our meal. The breakfast was a set selection which included a wonderful take on Bananas Foster, less the rum. I loved it. Which is something since I'm not really a banana guy. This was followed with a great coffe, and, as if I need to clarify the matter, is key. Bad coffee, equals bad Bed & Breakfast. A Lipton Tea carousel with a whole lot of options is there for the tea types. The main breakfast course of baked blueberry French toast was a new take on a staple. In fact, I hate French toast, ever since I was a kid, and for the first time SINCE I was a kid tried it, loved it and finished it. For the record it is prepared in a deep pan, layered with at least two bread layers and has a crisp top layer that is consistent with apple crisp, but is blueberry. Along with the centerpiece of the meal comes ubiquitous scrambled eggs, which were plain, but solid and cooked right, some pretty standard sausage links and all the orange and cranberry juice you could want. I'm a big guy, and left the table full and satisfied. Ultimately, and within the context of the time of year, the Wooden Duck was a bullseye. I'm looking forward to a late spring or early summer visit with more time to explore the facility and grounds. read more

I stayed here for the first time over the holidays of 2014. I understand the Inn is recently under new ownership, and boy are these hosts delightful. The Jeromes are kind, attentive and thoroughly accommodating. My room was modern, fresh and spotlessly clean (my number one concern staying anywhere, and, as I travel for work a lot, something rarely seen!) The room included a big, comfortable king bed with wonderful bedding, a fireplace, beautiful views and a big soaking tub, in addition to essential modern touches like satellite TV and free WiFi. Breakfast was something unlike I've ever experienced. The food was delectable, unique and beautifully presented. Wonderful cooking, and, again, accommodating; the owners happily attended to my dietary restrictions while still feeding me far better than I usually feed myself! The grounds are simply stunning, set in the mountains and surrounded by woods. You feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere, and yet the Inn is easily accessible to trains and a quick ride to the City and the rest of NJ and the surrounding areas. Since it is December and my time was limited, I didn't get to take advantage of the wonderful trails and all that the area has to offer; but I can't wait to go back and do so when the weather warms up. This is a wonderful getaway and is not only a perfect spot for a romantic weekend, a city retreat, or any other kind of escape from the normal grind, but it would also make a wonderful alternative to the big-flag hotels if you're in the area on business. Saturday, we had a cinnamon pecan french toast with fresh fruit; coffee and juice included of course. Today was your choice of 3 different quiches with breakfast potatoes & canadian bacon. We have been to many other B&B, but the Wooden Duck is, by far, number one on our list. The pictures on the website don't do it justice. I can't say enough good things about this place. I stayed here with my husband last week on a spontaneous search for a place to stay for our anniversary. Needless to say, we were not disappointed, and will definitely be returning. The owners, Jason and Maryann, are so kind and inviting, and they really put all their efforts into making sure you are enjoying your stay. Jason gave us a tour of the house and told us to make ourselves at home, which wasn't difficult; the house is beautiful, inside and out. Our room was amazing and so clean. We stayed in the Harlequin room, which has a queen-sized bed, double-sided fire place, seating area with tv, desk, small refrigerator, large soaking tub for two, a shower, and a private balcony overlooking the pool and nature. This room was nice and quiet, exactly what we were hoping for, and it was so easy to relax here. My husband and I stayed two nights and enjoyed two mornings with homemade breakfasts that were exceptional. If there is something you don't like, or are allergic to, they will gladly make you something else. You do not leave hungry. Side note: my husband and I were talking to Maryann on the morning of our anniversary and were asking for recommendations for dinner. She offered a lot of information about the local restaurants and which one would suit our desire for a romantic dinner. She even offered to make the reservations for us. Turns out she told them about our anniversary and our waiter surprised us with free dessert. This surprised and delighted us, and we are so grateful for that. This is one of the loveliest rural settings I have ever visited & being a guest was a delightful and luxurious treat. The hosts are warm, welcoming & helpful and their accommodations were just perfect for 2 couples looking for a relaxing get away. I enjoyed the pool, property & especially the gorgeous- flowers complete with butterflies & hummingbirds! The breakfast room is exquisite and comfortable - an ideal setting for the fabulous meals served graciously each morning. I was excited to tell my friend Di that they even provide a car charging station for all you electric drivers. I do believe they have thought of everything! read more

I'm so sad to have to write a bad review - I've never reviewed anything before, but my experience at the Wooden Duck Inn was so bad, I just don't want any other bride to make the same mistake I did. We booked the place for our wedding, all *10 rooms of the Inn. Having never been there, we decided to trust the photos on the web site, but unfortunately, once we arrived we realized the pool was tiny and the Inn itself was completely outdated. RUDE STAFF: My mother, my sister and I arrived two days prior to the rest of the party. From the get go we were treated like we were crashing at someone's house who didn't like having guests. We were not treated like guests. In fact the first morning, we woke up and were getting ready and the cleaning lady literally barged into the bedroom and said, "I'm coming in! I have to get these sheets off the bed, we have guests checking in tonight!" Wait, aren't WE guests? She literally just started stripping our beds while we were still in the room getting ready for the day. So insane and just baffling. NO INTERNET/TV: They said they had internet. They didn't. I told them it wasn't working and they did nothing about it. I lost two days pay because I was planning to do some work from there but was unable to. The TV didn't work either - complained about that and they just ignored the complaint. *Due to the above problems, my parents decided to cancel their room. My mother knew that my father would not want to deal with this poorly run place and she booked the Hilton with the rest of our guests for $93 a night. CURFEW: A month prior to the wedding I called and spoke to the manager and asked, "Will it be a problem if we hang out by the pool after the wedding, late at night?" The manager said, "No problem, since you guys will not require a full breakfast, we don't mind if you hang out by the pool till whenever you want." Ok! Sounds like this place will be grat since we have friends and family flying in from all over for our wedding who are going to want to enjoy some time with us after the more formal events. We got back from the rehearsal dinner Thursday night and sat out by the pool, there were only five of us having some wine, really NOT a big deal in the real world. Jim came out once and said, "I'm really going to have to ask you to keep it down." Although we were already speaking to each other in very hush voices, we brought it down to a whisper. Jim came out again about five minutes later... "I'm going to have to have to ask you guys to go to bed, we don't want our Trip Advisor reputation messed up and one of the other rooms has complained." We all vacated the premises. MORE RUDENESS: The next day was the day of my wedding. I gathered all my things rushing off to the venue at around 10am. Jim stopped me prior to leaving and said, "Susanne, we need to talk about breakfast for tomorrow - no one showed up this morning and let me tell you, that's a first. You really think this is my concern on my wedding day? Besides the fact that we had a conversation a month ago about how most of my party would not require breakfast and you'd just leave out muffins and bagels, things they can grab on the way out... so now they are planning to re-serve today's breakfast tomorrow. My guests were paying $150-$270 a night for this place that is re-serving day old breakfast. To touch a bit on breakfast - I did have the breakfast one day that I was there - it consisted of a rubbery muffin, a yogurt parfait made with what tasted like canned fruit and a quiche which had egg shells in it that I had the pleasure of crunching on. Fast forward to that night, returning after the wedding (the wedding itself was amazing by the way, I highly recommend Lake Mohawk Country Club and don't have one complaint about them) we were all in amazing spirits after such a wonderful night. We got out of the bus and found nasty notes on all of our doors: "Congratulations Susanne & Chase... We have non-wedding related guests in the Inn tonight, so PLEASE be as considerate as possible!" So once again they booked the tenth room knowing there was a wedding party at the Inn, but probably not advising the guests who booked it. That makes sense, treat the nine rooms you have booked badly because you want to keep that tenth room happy. After reading that note we were all pretty upset. This place is above and beyond amazing. Our room was spotless and beautiful, we had a soaking tub and it was the cherry on top of our little vacation. In the morning the breakfast was TO DIE FOR. So many courses, so much food, so much GOOD food, wow. We will be coming back many times, such a beautiful place to stay. So peaceful. read more

I noticed there are some not so good reviews on the Yelp page and I wanted chime in. Not sure when those reviews were written but we just stayed here - summer 2013 - and I have to say this place was lovely. Imbued with country-peace, Beth and Karl couldn't have been more charming and welcoming. We just had a wonderful night at the Wooden Duck this past weekend. We have 2 little kids and this was a great choice to get a quiet night out of the house to ourselves. We brought our own cheese and wine and never even left the room. The accommodations were perfect for us with a mini fridge, wine glasses, ice buckets, refreshments, comfy rocking arm chairs, small coffee table and a fantastic 2 person soaking tub. We stayed in the Bufflehead Suite, and really enjoyed everything. They took good care of us in the evening when we realized we forgot a couple things at home. They also offer games, movies, puzzles to borrow and bring back to your room. If you do want to head out for a bit, they have lots of recommendations for local restaurants (menus onsite), bars and activities. Breakfast was enjoyable and we had some nice conversation. We're already looking forward to returning in the summer to take a dip in the inground pool. Everything also seemed very safe with passcodes for the doors and a parking space just outside our room. We had a wonderful experience at the Wooden Duck. We happened to have great weather so we spent our afternoons at the pool. The gardens and bird feeders around the pool make it particularly delightful place to hang out. I like to be wet when its hot so being able to watch the birds and inspect the flowers (Im a gardner) from in the pool was right up my alley. Watching a squirrel jump onto the bird feeder from the bushes, scramble up the pole, and hang on while precariously stealing the birds' dinner was a hoot. I also enjoyed the hiking trails around, though watch out for mosquitos. Being from California the fireflys were also a treat. Along with these memories, the spinach and goat cheese quiche and brioche french toast will stay with me. The real reason to visit this B&B is the amazing breakfast, warm hospitality and meticulously clean and cozy accommodations. The attention to detail, from all the wooden ducks to the shaving/make-up mirror to the homemade chocolate chip cookies did not go unnoticed. I'll be back! read more
