Brought three watches to Edward at Ecker's today for repairs. He was knowledgeable and honest. Could not fix two of the watches as one really should go to the manufacturer and the other was a mid century watch with sentimental value that would cost over $500. to fix. Let me just say that Mr Eckert knows what he's doing. I have 2 high end watches with chronograph that needed repair and battery replacement. Other places I've taken the watch to in the past replace the battery but there is always a problem resetting the chronograph. Mr. Eckert took 20mins to diagnose the problem and replace the batteries for a reasonable price. Will always come back to his shop for any and all watch repairs. We have an antique grandfather clock that I have managed to keep oiled and regulated for the past ten years or so, but recently it would stop running after about a minute. I figured that there was friction build up somewhere but couldn't locate it. I called this shop and the owner said he had a backlog of several months, but if I could bring it in he would take a look and see if it was something quick to repair. I did and it was -- he located and oiled a lubrication spot I had missed, and then straightened the pendulum and adjusted the tick for good measure. He refused payment. I brought the clock home and it's working perfectly. I won't look elsewhere for future clock or watch repair in this area. read more

Ecker's clock and watch shop couldn't get enough praise for me. I went in needing a new watch battery. Most other places I have gone to in the past take about 25 minutes and have charged me $60.00. Ecker's took 2 minutes to change the battery (I'm not exaggerating) and only charged me $20.00. He is kind, efficient and incredibly knowledgeable. A big thanks to Mike B. and Brian L. for recommending Ecker's! I recently had a new watchband put on a watch that I've had for years at another watch shop while away from home - and, wouldn't you know it, but the clasp broke off within three days. I made my way over to Ecker's, asking if I could replace the band, but seeing that the band itself was brand new, the owner just said, "How about we just put a new clasp on it?" A couple minutes and just $5 later and I was back in business! The owner of the shop is a great guy, and the shop itself is worth checking out just given the wide variety of vintage and period clocks in the shop - including a sunburst clock that my Aunt Sophie used to have in her dining room! Good memories, indeed. When I walked into the store, the owner was helping a disabled gentleman, and I was really impressed with the great care that the owner took to help the gentleman to his car and to carefully place his pendulum clock just the right way so that it'd be safe in transport and preserve the newly repaired mechanism. The degree of goodwill that I saw in that brief exchange spoke volumes about the owner, the kind of person that really treats his customers with kindness and respect. What a wonderful little shop. Eckers is a a small shop that repairs watches, electronics and antique and vintage clocks. He has a great little personal collection of his own as well. When I expressed my interest in old electronics, he graciously brought down his prized 1925 triple tune radio. The inside was pristine without restore, and the outside was really pristine with minor restore. It was a beautiful piece and it was great to talk to someone who really appreciates that sort of stuff. When I came into the store, the owner was showing a small child "Dr. Pepper" ( his pet parrot) that he keeps in the store. He let me hold the parrot and take a picture! What a great guy! It seems like a lot of work is flowing his way. I asked if he was selling any of the clocks that were on racks in the back, and he said that they were all repair jobs. This guy must know what he's doing 'cause everyone and their mother is bringing their clocks to him. Needed a new watch strap. The lug size on this particular watch is unorthodox so I had trouble finding the right strap before i came to Ecker's. Interesting little shop. Very small lobby overloaded with antiques. It's cool though. Owner who does the work is very friendly and good at what he does. He has a parrot that hangs out at the store! Couldn't get a pic of the parrot because he was in the back. Ecker's has a great selection of watch straps and he switched straps for me in a matter of minutes. I have an old Omega wrist watch that has served me faithfully for many, many years. But lately the watch behaved erratically---sometimes it was late by 15 minutes/day, sometimes it gained up to an hour. I have an old (think beginning of the 1900s) railroad watch that I wanted to get running again for a present. This is a family heirloom and I'm terrified to have it out of my sight, but I really wanted it fixed, so I have no choice. :) Eckers was listed in the Washingtonian as a good place, so I gave it a shot. I have to say the service seemed excellent. When I went in there was a parrot (!) just hanging out on the desk, eating some cracker crumbs. The man working there didn't seem to think this was odd at all, or that I should in any way be fazed by it. So... that was ignored and I decided it was pretty cool. :) The man was friendly and helpful, and obviously passionate about what he does. He told me the watch is actually still running, it just needs a major cleaning, and explained a bit about all the little pieces involved. I can't speak for their actual *work*, since the other place I got a price quote from (Kensington Clock and Watch Repair) was about half the cost, and also seemed knowledgable, etc, so I ended up leaving the watch with them (the price being why only 3 stars), but the service and knowledge were both definitely exemplary. read more

Anyone who knows me well knows that I love to support and frequent local businesses. I attempted to do that with this shop that is conveniently near where I live. The proprietor charged me $15 to take a band out of one watch and to simply LOOK at the battery in another (without replacing it!) and then told me that the best way to fix it is to put it in my garbage disposal. He made me feel like I was wasting his time, and his parrot was just as cold and unwelcoming. I felt totally ripped off and won't be going back. read more

It never fails...this shop should be called the one who can fix everything shop!! I had a cheaply manufactured clock that was inset into an expensive silver frame. The clock stopped working for no apparent reason, and after Edward took a diagnostic look, and performed 20 minutes of surgery, we had that eureka moment and it was up and running! In this "throw away" society, it is refreshing to have an expert like Ecker's Clock and Watch Shop to resurrect your watch or clock. I have been using Eckers for nearly 10 years. Mostly, we have had watch batteries changed, but more recently Eckers restored the waterproofing O-ring on my vintage Omega Seamaster watch. A few years back, they restored my wife's Longine watch after the battery had leaked. Last year I took my late father's Cyma watch for restoration but changed my mind after Eckers advised me that although it was possible, it would be costly and far beyond the value of the piece. I appreciated the straightforward and honest advice received. I feel our family has a dependable, reliable, and friendly watchmaker that we hope to retain for many years in the future. I went there on a Saturday. I have a Timex Expedition digital watch-cost me $12 or so-that I bought 2 1/2 years ago. Been through a lot with this watch since then. Wore off the original strap band and replaced it with a dura-strap about 6 months ago. Finally the battery died last week. Instead of just throwing it out and getting another, I searched and found Ecker's. He replaced the battery in 5 minutes. Cost me $20. I've only recently started getting into wearing watches so imagine my surprise when one morning I noticed one of my favorite watches stopped ticking.
