Adam was already squeezing us in for our kitchen job and then made it happen at close to the last minute to fabricate our master bathroom countertop from our leftover slab and our second bathroom countertop from a lovely piece of remnant marble he had in his yard. We were up against a deadline to get moved back into our condo and Adam wanted to be of help however he could. Unfortunately, both Lowes and Home Depot were out at most of the stores in San Diego. I called around and found it at Free Builders. When I arrived I went straight to the counter and asked for the product. The less than friendly worker started to write up a ticket for the purchase. Now standard concrete is about $4.00 a bag and this stuff runs about $14.00 but it's better for what I was using it for and I didn't need much so worth the extra cost. But I noticed he wrote about $30.00 on his little ticket for one bag of the stuff. I asked if that was what they were charging and when he confirmed it I said "Thanks Anyway" and walked out. As I leaving the parking lot, another guy came out and said...."Oooops it's $21.00 a bag. We made a mistake" I kept driving. Now I'm a reasonable woman and I understand that a mom and pop shop does not get the same discounts as the big box stores so I expect to pay a bit more. But not double! Maybe it was an innocent mistake. Or maybe they saw a woman walk through the door in a dress and flip-flops asking for one bag of concrete and assumed that she just "don't know shit" about the cost of building materials. You decide. As for me, I don't do business with scammers.
