Terrible customer care. I had bought a pallet and a half of Eldorado lucera stone to install on my customers backsplash and butler's pantry. There was the normal sizes large to small on the pallets except an excessive amount of smaller size. The job was 120sqft I purchased an additional 40sqft for cuts and bad pieces. At the end of install I was holding 30+sqft of all small pieces but still had 10sqft left to complete the job. I brought the smalls back to Modern to see what they could do for me. After explaining the issue with Lucio there manager he said there is Nothing they could do for me. I had him call the rep from Eldorado and see if he could do anything while listening Lucio explain the circumstances to the rep in a manner to leave out simple details of my request and position himself to the rep to go with his decision on no helping my situation, apparently the rep will come investigate my job materials installed and make a determination. This takes several days to accomplish from what they say. I'm not in business to handle customers jobs in a ridiculous time frame so I purchased an additional 10sqft to finish this job. They brought me a hand selected 10sqft of all small pieces and said that's how it comes on the pallets. I just installed a pallet and a half of this so I know what comes on a pallet. Needless to say I demanded my money back for the 10sqft. All this hassle over 10sqft of material is in my opinion some of the worst customer care I've ever received. You should never insult your customers in any business and that's exactly what they did by bringing all small pieces. I will take my business elsewhere from now on. Did I mention that this was all over $80 worth of material that I was willing and had paid for? Go somewhere else, these guys are ridiculous on customer service. If they would do this to a customer who bought $1000's of material from them they are a "Do not do business with ever" company. I received a call an hour after leaving from Diana west the regional manager who came up with an solution to my issue. It wasn't entirely what I was wanting and it required me to purchase more than I needed but for the sake of the job and finishing it before I take residence at my customers house I agreed to it. read more

I wanted to update my review. They stepped forward and acknowledged that they made a mistake and will be issuing a full refund. I give them 5 stars because the did step up to make the situation right. The whole refund process was a big hassle, and I realize they did not manufacture the product, so that was not their doing. I think the frustrating part was I had 30 days to return the item from purchase and it took 3 weeks to get the product, we used it for a couple of weeks and discovered it was poor quality. I've purchased thousands of dollars of supplies from Modern Builders; however, I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. I ordered too many pavers so I called and asked about the policy to return them. We discussed the condition and quantity of the product to be returned and I was told it wouldn't be a problem to get a refund. Modern Builders accepted my product but then told me it was unlikely I'd get a refund. At this point they had both my money and material. They cited many reasons I'd not get my money back (not a quick moving product, delivered on the wrong pallet, in the wrong color shrink wrap) but none of the reasons impacted the quality of the product nor were they things Modern Builders couldn't correct. After three weeks of non-responsiveness, I finally filed a fraud claim with my bank. Only then did I hear back from the salesman. He told me they'd not be sending the product back to their supplier but still withheld a 25% restocking fee (which is what the supplier charges Modern Builders). I argued with him about why that was the case when he wasn't being charged a fee and all he could say was that it was policy. Show me where it says this on my invoice. Modern builders needs to update their policies to make all sales final if this is how they're going to behave. Save yourself the hassle of dealing with these people and take your hard earned money elsewhere. read more

First the positives, they have a huge selection of stones and their prices are good. Now the negative: You have to be very careful when ordering and you are better off under estimating because contrary to places like Floor and Decor, Lowe's, Home Depot or RCP, they do not allow returns. read more

Do not use this business! Very poor customer service. We went there to get some stone and when they loaded it the forklift did damage to the tailgate of a borrowed truck we had. Diana, the manager said she would turn it over to the insurance company. They denied it without even getting a report or estimate from us. They said because we didn't report it before we left the premises but that was impossible because we couldn't see it with the tailgate down with the stone in the back. When we got home and emptied out the truck we saw the damage and I called immediately. Maureen the lady at their insurance company was very rude! It was never even considered. We're retired and now we're stuck paying $3,000 to fix a vehicle that we borrowed. We went there because we heard that they had good prices but it's not worth it for what you'll end up paying for any damages they do! I even went so far as contacting the attorneys that work for the company and they did nothing! read more

I know nothing about building materials like this! We're in the midst of a carport with some posts added to a new retaining wall. I am a fish out of water! William took such time with me picking out the right color look. He is just a nice guy and walked me all over to make sure that my five choices were in stock. I have worked in San Marcos for 34 years and I don't know why I never knew about this place! I went to all the other places that are known for stone type products. This place had the friendliest employees and it really had a family vibe! I always wanted to do masonry work, that may sound funny... my wife and I own a 1967 single level house in Escondido. During this era, faux lava rock was all the rage and we hated it. The fireplace inside and out was lava rock. I visited Modern Builders Supply in San Marcos, Ca. This is where I met and developed a professional relationship with Eryk. Eryk listened to what I wanted to do and understood I'd never done this type of work before - I'm talking about removing the existing lava rock from the interior side of our fireplace and replace it with stack stone. Eryk shared some sample pieces for reference and approval by my wife. We went with East West Honey Gold Classic. With the lava rock removed Eryk helped me by checking my math for material needed and gave my the necessary advice, guidance and direction needed to install this material. Using a friends tile saw it turned out better then I imaged. So much so, I installed the same stone on the face of the garage and scratch built a column around a steel post supporting the ridge beam in the front entryway. I'd suggest for anyone interested in getting design ideas and/or advice concerning a project. I'd go visit my friend Eryk at Modern Builders Supply. The one thing that I appreciated about my interactions with Eryk is this. I'm not a contractor and/or a professional in this industry. I know this and Eryk knew this. However, this didn't stop Eryk from spending as much time as was necessary to ensure I understood what was required for a successful installation. Thank you Eryk! read more

We didn't receive our products in time and our pavers/palettes arrived broken and low quality.
