I ended up having to re-clean everything myself. I was very disappointed with having spent $400, I definitely felt like I didn't get what I paid for. I will say that they were kind when I spoke with them on the phone, I haven't had a chance to call back regarding this issue (I had it cleaned in the beginning of April) and I know it's well past that time but Ive had a lot of things hitting me back to back so tried to let it go and I'm sorry, I just couldn't. After taking a look at the heater he assured me he could check several systems to find the culprit and gave me an estimate. The work was completed in about an hour. He then showed me the various systems he had checked as well as the results. He ended up placing a new valve on the overflow system. He cleaned up the work area when he was done. He also took $50.00 off the quoted estimate and charged me $200.00. I found Khuma to be polite, and concerned. The quality of the work and the knowledge he demonstrated in the type of water heater system was impressive. He even quoted the amount to replace the entire system. Because of our home's location, field mice are expected, but they began entering our home in significant numbers. We used traps and disposed of them ourselves but wanted a professional solution. Before signing a one-year contract with Brody, I explicitly asked whether I could cancel within the first year if the issue continued. Their answer was "yes". After signing, the representative told me that "mice communicate with each other," implying they learn trap locations and warn others. My husband, who grew up in the country, immediately dismissed this as nonsense. I told her I did not sign a one-year contract to be told the only solution was moving traps around. Their first service confirmed my concern: they simply took my traps, moved them around, and placed a few of their own--sometimes directly next to mine. They did not treat the issue, did not seal entry points, and did not provide any professional intervention beyond what we were already doing ourselves. Meanwhile, mice continued entering under the garage door, which Brody claimed they would a replace a liner that should resolve it. Later, they said the part was on backorder. It never arrived. They should have disclosed upfront that: * They planned to rely on trap moving rather than actual treatment. * The garage door guard was unavailable. * They could not realistically prevent mice from entering given our location. * A one-year contract would not add value. Instead, I was misled into a contract that provided no meaningful service. I canceled because they were dishonest, ineffective, and did nothing beyond what we were already doing. Canceling was not an attempt to cause trouble, it was a response to poor service and there was no intent of a bad review as I believe businesses make errors however... Fast forward to today: we have an annual ant issue and wanted a one-time treatment. This is a bit different than a mouse concern and more likely to have an effective solution. I called Brody for a quote (along with a few other pest control businesses), explained that the mouse service had not worked out, and after being placed on hold was told I am banned from receiving Brody services because I canceled a contract early--despite being told I could. I never spoke badly about Brody and even sent them a customer who I will now be sharing this experience with. This is unprofessional, retaliatory, and a clear warning to others to not sign a contract with Brody unless you receive a written guarantee that their services will fully resolve your issue and that you will not be banned if you have sufficient reason to cancel. I was kind, understanding and I also failed to mention, they had a billing concern too, so they had to apply the overcharge to a future visit, but what if I had not caught that overcharge? I was not going to give this review until the representative on the phone told me good luck in the future in a condescending tone when all I asked was for her to pass along my feedback. So this should better get their attention. They were dishonest, ineffective, and punitive when held accountable. I'm no longer able to support this business.

The second offered an add-on service, but when I asked about why I'd need it, they admitted I didn't. They also came in hundreds of dollars about the third company--Lowe's Air Duct Cleaning. I liked Lowe's flat rate: no surprises! I liked the service even better. The technician arrived on time. He took off his shoes in the house and was respectful of our things. He worked diligently for about seven hours to clean our dryer vent and the ducts for our three HVAC systems. He showed me before and after pictures that I could identify as ours because I'd found the same pet food kibbles elsewhere in the house from the former owner. Like everybody, I waited patiently in your thimble-sized office, navigated your comically undersized lot, and quietly appreciated the humor of your staff through the years. Thank you for that. So why today was I met by two new faces at the service desk with such a strikingly different attitude? I was surprised to hear oil changes require advance appointments, and you now prefer online. I mean, sure, I can do that. But when did that change? And why was a technician I've never seen before so condescending about it? He was downright hostile. Then the other guy chimed in and accused me of interrupting him. Honestly, gentlemen, I asked myself, "Is it worth it to schedule an appointment with you, if I know it's going to be you calling me to tell me any additional work that may need to be done? Do I trust the two of you?" The answer in that split-second moment was no. The arrogance, sarcasm, and belittling behavior by this pair made me realize I wouldn't trust these two to be the communicators of my mechanic shop. When I asked where the two old guys went, Kyle said with a smirk, "They went where all old guys go." Um, did they die? No, they retired, thankfully. Old guys from the desk, you are missed by your customers! Maybe it's the same great mechanics working behind closed bay doors at Hollenshade's, I don't know. Two guys I've never seen before told me things about how the business works that I've never heard before and treated me in a way no one at Hollenshades ever treated me before. Which leads me to the conclusion that this is not the same Hollenshade's I've trusted for over 20 years. I'm genuinely disappointed that I need to find a new mechanic. I honestly don't know what's happening at Hollenshade's anymore.
