Being a first time home buyer, I was very nervous, but Greg and his team put me at ease from the very beginning. I did have one issue at the beginning with the scheduling (part my fault for not confirming), but Cathy worked with me and they were able to adjust their schedule to accommodate me within 4 hours. I reached out to Kemp Home Inspections for a 3rd opinion on the cause for exterior brick and mortar cracks on my 1941 colonial in Arlington. I'm a single female homeowner with no technical background. One structural engineer said lintel failure; a 2nd said serious foundation concerns that would be costly to repair. I had not one, but two excellent experiences with Kemp Home Inspections. I'm buying a condo, and when Heather arrived, ready to do the inspection, only to discover that the sellers had not turned on the electricity, she just rolled with it. She did all the parts of the inspection she could do without electricity, including expertly removing a painted-on fuse box cover to check the wiring, without damaging the wall at all. We had to schedule a second date to do the rest of the inspection, and made sure the electricity would be on this time. Greg came to do the inspection this time, and was fast, knowledgeable, and thorough. He has great communication with his office staff, Patty and Cathy, and they were on top of things. My contingency dates were aggressive, but Greg scheduled his inspection and expedited some of the testing to meet all my timelines, which I appreciated a lot. I recently used Greg Kemp during a home inspection in December 2014 on a house in Ellicott City. Overall I was extremely pleased and would definitely hire him again. It is a major plus since he is a structural engineer and has a good background in real estate. Here is how it turned out. Timeliness and Scheduling I had contacted Greg via email and was hoping he could do something on a Sunday morning when most people were off. I was pleased that he could spend that morning with us. Within a week in contacting him, I was set up with a price list and the understanding of what he is supposed to do and not do. After selecting the options, he met us at the residence early and ready to tackle the roof and exterior of the home. I had no complaints. Walk thru exterior Greg took his time and commented to me everything I needed to know. Most things he talked about I would have never considered. From power servicing to bushes proximity to home and finally he entered the crawlspace and under the deck of the home, where you had no choice but to belly crawl. It was above and beyond. He noted structurally unsafe areas and a place where a pool was filled in. He even google mapped the area before and stated that's how he knew. Walk through interior The attic was the part that impressed me the most. Although it was a maze of garbage, Greg climbed up both attics and crawled through them. He noted multiple electrical issues with the place that would occur within some years. The price is fair for what the services he offered. Called on Tuesday and spoke to the receptionist. Asked to get a quick appointment for a home inspection in the next day or 2 max due to the time crunch. The receptionist said she could not accomodate the request for at least 3 days without any guarantee. I then asked for a specific inspector,Greg, based on reviews and she told me that no one gets to pick a specific inspector and that the inspector is a mystery until the morning of the inspection. Pass on this company. They cant meet timelines and are unwilling to allow customers to pick specific inspectors. Do not recommend them at all. Lack of resources and customer service.
