Terrible service - I wanted to love this place, but every service I've had I had to go back and get it redone because it was just awful - bad haircut, WRONG hair color, and worse, the two times I called and asked the manager to call me back, neither ever did (!) And I tipped everyone I came into contact with, although I should not have, even when I was redoing services - waste of hours and hours of my time, waste of my money. When my hair color was clearly too red (I have brown hair), two employees kept insisting it looked great - then (after I was home and saw how bad the haircut and color was) I realized they just wanted to go home - and I had tipped them. And every time I go in, after all this, they can't find my information, even though I've filled out the card several times... I guess I'm just not an important enough client for them to pay attention to. read more

I hate to leave a bad review but this place really caused some serious damage to my hair. I have been bleach blonde for about two years but recently relocated and needed to find a new stylist. I chose Eco to touch up my roots. I'm not sure what happened but about two weeks after going there my hair was dry, frizzy, and completely broken. I lost two-three inches just from dead ends breaking off. I had to oluplex at home biweekly for about two months to finally restore my hair to its previous health. I would never expect that from an Aveda salon, especially when Eco Salon wasn't exactly cheap! Second star only because the staff is friendly and polite. read more

I've lived in this neighborhood for almost two years now, all the while wishing I could find a good salon/hairstylist close by. I was a walk-in at Eco Salon, and Mesha graciously did my hair (I was actually hoping I could get her, because I saw her doing hair when I walked by one day). She took her time and nurtured my natural Afro textured/ curly hair. She was also very nice and attentive. It was the best salon experience I have had in a while.... and the cost was less than I had anticipated. I will definitely return to Eco Salon for Mesha to do my hair again. read more

Janet!!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this woman. I've been seeing Janet for the past 14 years (or more) and can't believe I didn't think to review her earlier. She always knows what to do with my hair knowing that I can't be bothered to blow dry/iron/curl it daily and I don't want to pay to dye it more than twice a year. Everything she has done grows out well and I got TONS of compliments on....to the point where one friend told me she stalks my instagram because of my haircuts and coloring! About 5 years ago (or so) I tried Eco Salon out of desperation, and have been hooked ever since! Janet is an awesome stylist, professional and meticulous. She is very talented, truly an artist, and has been providing probably the best haircut of my adult life; it grows out nicely and suits my face, and I get lots of compliments on both the cut and the color. At first I was getting highlights until she explained that single process would be better (and less expensive) for my ever-graying base color, so now I've gone with her suggestion for a few years. The salon itself is upbeat and welcoming, and a lot of the employees seem to stay for years, so they are certainly doing something right! Management is always upgrading and adding new features to the decor and services. As long as I live in Riverdale I will be loyal to Janet and Eco Salon. read more

I've been coming here a long time, monthly. I've had my hair cut by several stylists there, but Ming is my favorite. I am male, and have short, straight hair. Every time I get a spectacular haircut and walk out of there feeling like a million bucks. Price for the haircut is affordable (I haven't used other services, such as coloring though). The staff all around are nice, skilled, and professional. They offer complimentary coffee as well. Even if I move to a different neighborhood, I will still come here for a great haircut and experience. read more

I have been to the echo salon several times and had my hair done by Louis. What a terrible stylist and colorist. He messed up cutting my hair and coloring it. He is a con artist and tells you things about your hair that are not true and then tries to charge more money to correct the mistakes he made on my hair. I would never go back and never recommend his salon. The people working there and the salon need a makeover. I have been to high end salons and have paid less for an excellent haircut and color! I moved to Riverdale 4 years ago, after years in Manhattan and Park Slope. I debated staying with my place in Park Slope. On a whim, I thought I'd roll the dice and try this place right in my neighborhood. Well, I lucked out. Janet has cut my hair for 4 years now and every cut is a winner. She has a great eye and "gets" what will look best. Her haircuts look great, take only a little time, and her support team is very professional and courteous. Janet is a rock star there. The staff and service was absolutely delightful here. Unfortunately as a first time customer I was NOT satisfied with the price for my cut. I had a very VERY minimal trim...could barely tell any difference that my hair had been touched at all. It was fine, I wasn't looking for a drastic change, but I was charged a whopping $80. I was in search for an amazing stylist && I found her here at Eco salon in Riverdale. My cousins and I needed our hair blown out for a 50th bday and we picked Eco bc it was in the neighborhood and I'm so happy we did! The salon is clean, stylish, and professional. After we all received red carpet ready blow outs from 3 different stylists (all of whom were amazing) it was official I found my dream stylist! If you are in need of a great haircut Janet is your girl! I've also gone to her for color and I was NOT disappointed! She gave me the natural ombre look I was looking for! I have gotten so many compliments on my hair since going to her! She is young & hip and knows her craft well!!! Also, there is the sweetest apprentice (sorry I cannot remember her name) who has shampooed me. She, like Janet,makes you feel so comfortable & does a great job!! The salon also has a great products for sale! I'm in love with Sojoun shampoo and conditioner line that go for around $25 a bottle which isn't bad considering they last you about 3 months (depending on how often you wash your hair)... As for prices of services at Eco Salon, I find it totally affordable btw $60-75 for hair cut, wash, and blow. I can't get over how amazing this salon is! My girl Janet is an absolute goddess! I came in for the first time about a year ago following a horrendous ombre touch-up turned 4-hour full head highlight nightmare done by someone at the Aveda school (a mistake I will not make again). A bunch of stylists at Eco took a look at my sorry-ass locks, conferred with each other, and unanimously told me to wait until Janet came in. She brought my ragged bleached hair back to a more natural hue and zapped moisture back into my dried-out ends. She worked with me over a couple of sessions to get my hair back looking healthy. Last week, I went in feeling a little adventurous. Janet and I brainstormed and in the end, decided to do lavender highlights in my hair. She was as excited as me to do it, if not more so! The best part was that she didn't try to talk me down to a less time-consuming process to get me in and out on a really busy morning in the salon. Ok, so after reading the positive reviews and just moving to the area, I was fairly excited to try this place out. I made an appointment first thing in the morning at 9 am... I was not out of there until 12:30 pm, and I would not even say my hair was "ready". Granted, I have thick, semi-curly, dry hair (read: needs to be conditioned!)... and I warned them on the phone of that (since I know it usually takes 2 hours to do the color/cut process). My stylist had multiple appointments booked in the morning (which is out of his control), and I wanted a root touch up with highlights. He suggested that I glaze my highlights to make the color match my pale skin tone (his words... which I am on the paler side). I was agreeable, since I tend to trust hair people. In the past, I have had my root touch up and highlights done at the same time, and sat and process them both. He decided to do each individually... so my hair was washed three times while I was there in total. My scalp was killing my when I left - the woman who was washing it was NOT delicate. Also, I tend to have quite high pain tolerance on my head since I have dealt with this thick hair for a long time, but even that was too much for me. I sat in the at the hair washing station for 30+ minutes while half of my highlights were still processing (since they were not all put on at the same time) and then had to wait while the glaze sat on my hair. I think since I had already been there so long, she was trying to get me out of there once the glaze was done and barely even conditioned my hair. They charge you extra to blow dry and style your hair, and since I had been there for 3.5 hours, I was done. He threw some curly cream in my wet hair and sent me on my way. They also do not let you tip on a credit card, so I could only tip what I happen to have on me (which was not close to 15-20%). I paid around $230 for all of that. I really wanted to like them, and I will say, the staff was friendly and engaging. I just didn't see the results for all the time/work. I went home and tried to condition my hair as best I could without re-washing it. It is a fried mess. On the positive, the color seems to be ok, but the path to get there was long and unnecessary. Don't want to be the debby downer, but felt I should pass along my experience. It seemed like other people were in and out a LOT faster than me, so maybe my experience was a fluke. read more
