I'm not sure what's going on at Eco Bargains, but the store I started visiting 3 years ago has really changed and not for the better. It used to be when you came in they would display cool vintage appliances, stoves and even refrigerators sometimes. None of that today, just some new fiberglass tubs. I came here to find an old three-panel door. I was told by the greeter to go to the very back of the store. I walked past several full kitchen cabinet sets to enter what appeared to be a large unmarked extension of the store, albeit messier. There, I found four doors that were exactly what I was looking for. A less-than-polite young man approached me saying I couldn't be back here. They didn't mark the backroom entrance! Ok, put a sign out there buddy. I was later told the floor sign they displayed showing "Employees only" was removed so they could move some things around. Still that's no reason to be rude to customers! I proceeded to the door section. After looking for a while, I couldn't find what I needed. An older woman dressed in black volunteered to help. So I asked her specifically, did she have anymore of these 3-panel doors in the back room. To which, she said "If it's not out here we don't have it. We don't keep things in the back room." What a load, feigning helpfulness with the hopes I would take some of their old and beaten inventory off their hands. In the end, I couldn't justify purchasing anything off the floor. The stock was old, variety of stuff was way down, and helpfulness was nil. If you're looking for something special, go to your local ReStore. They'll be more polite, helpful, and they won't lie to your face and move you on like a piece of cattle. You might actually find what you're looking for. read more

Heard about this place from a coworker who is a regular here. I love a bargain--and interesting stuff--so couldn't wait to go. My husband and I went on a Saturday afternoon and had a blast wandering around, looking at all the "stuff" : shutters, doors, mantels, lighting fixtures, cabinets, moulding, tiles, and things like a church pew, stadium seating, gym lockers. I have mobility issues, so cannot stand/walk around for too long, but this is a place you could spend some significant time in (note to self: bring wheelchair next time). It's also a Pinterest-lover's dream. Ecobuilding Bargains has a fun Pinterest page, a great newsletter that highlights "hot items," and a website you can peruse. There are even featured videos of customers and what they've done with the things they've bought here. Very cool, interesting, and informative stuff. We've been back, of course. Each and every time, the employees are genuinely friendly, happy, and helpful. We love it here. read more

This place is THE BEST! Inventory, pricing, staff... Easy location. Tons of new tiles by piece or box, a door for any frame, exquisite lighting, cabinetry, hardware, paint, etc. So unique. Perfect to add that "WOW" to your home or project. Im sure this place is wonderful for the contractor or handyman... but for an artist... its wonderland! If you like getting creative; you wont break the bank here!!!... they have hammers and nails to fix that if you do get carried away though! This place is great if you're trying to redo a room on the cheap or find some antique lighting, plumbing, etc that someone ripped out of their home because they're idiots and replaced with all builder grade Home Depot level quality crap. They have tons of old double hung windows, doors, wood trim, bathroom fixtures, sinks, tile, and even kitchen cabinets. We picked up a console sink for $40 (at most antique stores this would go for $500+) an entry way dutch door, and some various wooden pieces for a house project. When we were there they were in the process of getting an entire kitchen renovation old appliances and cabintry from a house in Boston. They had 2 meile dishwashers, viking range/oven and a subzero refrigerator. I'm not sure what the price was because they were taking bids on the entire kitchen, but I'm sure it was way way way below retail. I'm sure this isn't a normal occurance but it just goes to show that if you go to places like this often enough you could get some rock bottom prices on top of the line products. I have purchased several thousand dollars worth of merchandise from Eco building bargains in Springfield located on Warwick Street when it was under old management .. After management has changed the prices have skyrocketed to the equal cost of going to a big box store The other day I was in there but yet again I picked up three products one was in the wrong box when I got it home I realized two of them were 45 inches in one was 60 inches When I had the opportunity to revisit the store to return the odd sized piece I was dealing with one of the managers who actually sold me these three items When she refused to return it because mysteriously my purchase was now not in the computer system , I said that it was ridiculous because she was the one who sold it to me originally . She became standoffish and very belligerent with me all I needed was the other piece in the correct size. I then mentioned that I was going to speak to corporate about the ridiculousness of this and her regal cavalier and dominating attitude then I left the store I called corporate left messages and finally got a response . Great way to spend a few hours on a weekend if you are crafty and can envision what could be. Went looking for nothing in particular- I left with a bathroom mirror and my friend walked out with hand painted tiles for a kitchen remodel - the tiles were 20 cents a piece for something that would usually be around $5 - got enough for her kitchen as accents for under $20. Don't go looking for particular or you may be disappointed but go look anyway read more

Visited Ecobuilding Bargains with my boyfriend to look for remodel materials for our new house. This place is a WAREHOUSE of recycled home wares for the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, and beyond. We were looking for an external solid wood door with a glass window (they have about 100 of them) and a double hung window (they have about 50 of them). Along the way, we looked a light fixtures, old tubs (to convert into an outdoor "hot tub"), wood paneling, vintage stoves/ranges, and antique furniture. They have so much more: entire cabinet systems (very nice quality) for a couple of grand, which included a stove and dishwasher in some cases; sink basins, stands and faucets; recycled paint (didn't know there was such a thing); lumber and wood trim, and on and on. This place appears to be the most affordable way to do renovations on your home and I can't wait 'til we come back to make our purchases. If you're looking for something really really specific you might find it here, such as an original light fixture or sink for an old Victorian home. Other than that, it was basically a lot of junk. Some complete kitchen cabinet systems that were scratched and beat up, priced at like six grand. Old one-off doors and windows. Nothing up to the caliber of using for a new up to date remodel. Highly overrated place, that you'll most likely leave empty handed, except for a bag of complimentary popcorn. read more

I have been a shopper since they where opened on gasoline alley, and since the new location and new management came in these past couple of years they have become greedy, a MAJORITY of what they get in stock is donated then they turn around and skyjack the prices ever since they came in it's hard to even walk through the building because the prices are so high they don't move as much as the store used to I've donated stuff to them for many years but I stopped I'd rather give it away to someone that needs it instead of giving it to them I still go every once in a while because there are a small amount of things that they do sell affordable and find something I need in an emergency, a couple of higher ups are nasty and one male there disrespected me in front of people, another place that is like this place is savers store but at least savers redeemed themselves by have 50 percent of sales at least once a month this place nope they don't budge at all. read more
