I decided to go with Ecology Air Innovations after my 33 old HVAC system crapped out on me. They installed a brand new Trane two stage heat pump, variable speed air handler, and all new ducts. I had been looking into Trane equipment because, while a little more expensive, I wanted to go with something reliable and Trane is one of the best. I received multiple quotes on that type of equipment and Ecology Air Innovations beat everyone else's price by a mile. Mark, the owner of the company, initially responded to my request and responded back very quickly. He came out and gave me the estimate the next day. He was very professional and helped me answer any questions I had. Three of his employees came out to do the work the next week and finished the total install in two days. They were all very professional and polite. One final thing, I received a SMUD rebate with the new install that was only good through the end of the month, and I was doing this very last minute...Mark jumped through hoops for me to make sure all of the paperwork got submitted in time so that I received the rebate. I want to share my experience with Ecology Air. A few weeks back my heater started blowing cold air during the heating process. We turned it off and after a couple days we tried it again and it started working. So we used it and after a few days during the cold morning time it started blowing cold air again. I decided to use Yelp and search for a heating and air company to inspect and repair our system. We live in Clarksburg and it was hard to find a local company willing to drive over to our area. Ecology Air reached out to me with a simple diagnostic price and if repairs are needed the diagnostic price would be waived. They also had availability within two days. I was very happy to find someone that is willing to come inspect before the new year. Right on time I got a text saying they are on their way and the name of the person that will inspect my system. I met Jake outside as soon as he arrived and quickly he knew more about my system by just looking outside at the unit on top of the roof. He knew the brand, model and year it was built. He assured me we have a top of the line Trane A/C system for an all electric house. He went inside the house and inspected everything and started the system. It started blowing warm air again. He quickly explained how the electric heating works on these systems and what I experienced on those cold morning in the low 30s had caused the system to defrost and that's why it started blowing cold air. He stated if I waited about 5-10 minutes it would have switched back to warm air once it defrosted. He spent about 20-30 minutes educating me on how it works compared to gas heating (furnace) and walked me through how to take care of it. I was very thankful for his expertise and how he was willing to share all this information. The system has been running fine ever since and I do notice during the very cold morning it will switch to defrost and back to warm after a few minutes. He also gave me tips on how to keep it from working extra hard during the very cold nights. Just to give you more insight to why I was experiencing this for the first time, we purchased the house in 2017 and have been using the radiant heating with a boiler all these years and never used the electric system to heat the house. This is our first year because the boiler is having issues and we have plans to replace it with a new one. Down goes furnace ... down goes furnace!! And right before the holidays meaning my family couldn't take refuge from the cold at school or work. So, I got my system checked out and received four quotes to repair/replace my furnace/system. One of the quotes was done by Ecology co-owner Mark Gilmore who came out to my home and patiently listened while I explained my wants. He provided me a quote, explained my options, and left. No sales pressure or BS about equipment. After considering the overall age of my split-system I decided to replace the whole thing with an energy efficient system and decided to hire Ecology because they are a small, locally-owned company that installs Trane equipment (Consumer Reports lists Trane at 8/10 on reliability). After multiple attempts to install my nest thermostat, I finally learned that a technician needed to ground my common wire. I looked on Yelp and found Ecology Air gave me a competitive quote. I needed some help with my HVAC and ductwork, i started a project on yelp where it reaches out multiple vendors. Ecology was quick enough to respond to my queries and concerns. They kind of had an idea what might be wrong when we discussed the issues with the heater. They replaced a board on heating system and it has been working fine since then. They gave some tips on improving efficiency and how to maximize the usage so that it doesn't effect the electric bill. My AC condenser failed a few days ago and I had called a local Auburn company to troubleshoot and provide a repair estimate. Unfortunately, the tech sent out jumped to the conclusion the entire AC system was failed and the condenser was mechanically seized, requiring a massive investment in a whole new system. I was not confident that the system was truly dead despite its age and sent out several requests for info and Mark responded right away. He asked if the first tech had done a few other things in the troubleshooting process, none of which had been tried. Mark was very respectful and professional and was able to come over the next day to troubleshoot. Within 10 minutes, he had the system up and running again and cooling successfully. These guys are pros. Very professional, friendly, fast installers. Replaced my entire HVAC and they showed up around 8am and were done with the Heater. A/C and thermostat by 1pm. Shortly after they left I got a call from their independent permit verifier and he showed up within 30 mins and cleared the duct leak and AC performance tests and I had a permit the same day. Only problem is with covid I guess the city check is on your own? Which is fine but I don't go into my attic on a ladder so I guess I'll do the city inspection when covid is resolved and the city sends people out again. Not this companies fault. I came home on Sunday night from a trip and my A/C was not working as it should. The house wouldn't cool down at all. I came to Yelp to find someone and Ecology came up first. They were right down the road so that was a definite plus. Regrettably, I couldn't be seen on Monday, but Jake came by first thing on Tuesday morning. Ever had your car doing weird noises and you go to the mechanic and you can't reproduce the problem? Yep - that's what happened. My A/C was working the way it should. But that didn't stop Jake from exhausting all possibilities and checking every single thing from top to bottom. As I hovered nearby asking endless questions, Jake patiently answered my questions and explained items in a way that still respected me. He talked to me and never at me. In other words, I never felt that I was being mansplained to. Integrity is a big thing for me. When I asked Jake if I paid by check, card, or how that would work, he paused. He felt bad charging me for not finding any problem at all. I happily paid my bill (particularly with the knowledge that they were the most reasonably priced of anyone around) and Jake let me know that if there's a problem to call - we're just around the corner. Our heater stopped working on the first really cold night of the season and Jake came out quickly to try to fix it. It did fix it for a couple days but there was more wrong with the furnace than initially discovered so Mark came out a couple days later and figured out what it was and was also able to squeeze us in the next day to fix it. Our AC went out on one of the hottest days yet! I messaged a few businesses on Sunday evening and I received an appointment the very next day for this business. I was impressed because usually appointments that quick are not available when it's hot and in the middle of summer! Ee had an appointment between 1-3pm, and Mark hit me up around noon that he was available even sooner and was 10 minutes away. He had a mask, which was much appreciated! He came by and within about 10-15 minutes was able to determine the unit needed a new capacitor. Pricing was fair, $200 to change the capacitor. He educated me on average life of unit and capacitors and made recommendations on thermostats, how to get discounts, whole house fans, and more. Another firm came to service my Hvac cooling unit that wasn't working right and the tech said the unit was fine and that my problem was that I had single pane windows. I have dual pane windows.
