Nice place to stay prior to an early flight. Friendly and affordable. No pool and no hot tub but did have a nice quick, grab on the go breakfast. Room was very comfortable. I did not book direct and really wish I did for better clarification on transportation because it cost me another $85.00 for transportation to the airport and back. We checked in and noticed immediately that the air conditioning (for the lobby) was not working (even the clerk said it was not working), and that was the start. We got to the room, old and dated, phone didn't work, internet didn't work, bathtub was filthy, bathroom faucet was not attached to the sink, human waste wiped on the wall, and this is the room. The hotel itself was so dated and in poor repair, pop machine was out of order, so much missing and worn paint. If you are driving and see this property, "Keep Driving"! We checked in, saw all this, and checked out within 40 minutes....requested a refund but were denied because of their "cancellation policy". Bottom line: no respect for the guests whatsoever! I stay here the night before my flight out when I'm in state to see family. Three years in a row. Nothing fancy or 5-star, but it's clean, smells good, and it's right around the corner from the airport. Housekeeping is seemingly yelling at each other down the hallway in the morning, so you might as well for-go the late check out and hop to it at 10 or 11. Kind of annoying but not a deal breaker. Shuttle to the airport is $15. Uber it if you can for half that price. read more

What a hidden gem. This hotel is lacking the frills but it thrills in the value for your money department. The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. The tv's were large with flat screens and a decent channel selection. They have a dvd player in case you want to bring your movies with you. I liked the separate room with a couch to watch tv. There is a fridge and microwave. the staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast has the standard cold fare with fresh fruit and a waffle maker. The hotel is located near the 96 freeway and very close to plenty of excellent shopping and restaurants. I was here for business and will return for another week-long stay. read more

My husband and I were at the end of our vacation so I booked a night here so we would be close to the airport. When I called I was very specific, repeating it many times, "I am looking for a room with a KING bed." The gentleman told me they had one left so I booked it. The reservationist also informed me it would be non-refundable. I confirmed no problem, but it has to be a KING. When we got to our room, it was a queen. I went to the front desk to get this corrected but the staff person told me no kings left; they were all booked. I suggested he give us one of the KING rooms that was not yet occupied. He refused, saying it was probably just a misunderstanding and confirmed that the reservation was non-refundable! This place also states English is the language, not really. We never heard staff speaking English except to guests and that was very broken and challenging to understand. They also seemed to have challenges understanding English. This may be a ploy... This is very deceptive to the consumer. We would NOT stay here again and we do NOT recommend it. read more

I read the reviews before booking my trip, although now after my trip realizing all those reviews are OLD. When we arrived The Hotel DID NOT look anything like the pictures posted. Weeds all over the exterior. The hotel smelled musty walking down the halls, with only 1 entrance/exit. When we entered the room, it was the same musty smell. We ordered the Queen suite and had to go back downstairs to get pillows, blankets, and sheet. The mattress was absolutely disgusting in the hide a bed couch. The blanket we were given had burn hole in it and smelled bad. Getting off my 3 and a half hour flight I decided to take a shower. OMG the mold in the shower was unbelievable along the rails and on the ceiling. 5 weird circles on the mirror, like some kind of satanic ritual. the paint peeling on light switch and tissue holder, the back of the main door filthy dirty. I would never recommend this hotel to any of my worst enemies. I forfeited 2 nights and moved to another motel having to pay again, because booking.com does not do refunds. read more

This afternoon the woman answering the phones was so rude when I tried to reserve two hotel rooms that I will not being staying here and I would recommend anyone else stay elsewhere as well. This is a service industry, and there was no reason for her to behave that way over the phone. I have stayed here before and it was average (one room was clean but I had to request a room change because the first room was dirty and smelled bad), but there are plenty of other hotels in the area that her attitude completely turned me off of this hotel. read more

Had a mini vacation out with my wife and decided to stay here for the night. We came during the middle of renovations, so my review does not reflect that, just the renovated room that we stayed in. The bed was super comfortable, and the room nice and clean. Lighting was nice and bright which is a good change, so often hotels are dark especially in the hallways. The only major downside that we ran into, was with the shower. The water pressure was horrible, and made it nearly impossible to take a full shower. I'm not sure if they plan on renovating the showerheads, but it may be a good idea. I do think the continental breakfast has some definite rooms for improvement, but overall we were satisfied with what we got. The price and the amenities provided by the hotel lined up fairly well. However, the lack luster of the shower is the reasoning for my three star rating. Hopefully they will fix that, and then I'd have no problem increasing my rating to at least a four star. read more

I stayed at this hotel for a weekend trip to Grand Rapids. The location is pretty good, not more than 15 minutes away from anywhere you need to be. The afternoon/evening front desk clerk was rude and unpleasant. I was a little put off by the cleanliness of the room but I'll admit I am probably overly critical about things like that, and I do understand that this is a budget hotel. I read another review that said the place could use a deep cleaning and I'd concur with that. Good water pressure, shower and curtain could have been cleaner. Cold air conditioning which was good at the end of a warm July day. The TV was horrible, honestly. The sound and picture quality was poor and the channel selection was limited. We ate the free continental breakfast one morning, it was okay. We had a waffle, some cereal, and some pastries. Not terrible. The bed and pillows were decent but the blanket was thin. The sound level was fine, pretty quiet actually. If I were staying in Grand Rapids again I'd try to find a better place but for the money I suppose it was alright. read more

Driving back from Chicago the other night, cheery talk in the car turned tense as blowing snow obscured my view of the already dim roads and I felt us sliding. The scary "car with squigglies behind the tires" symbol on our rented VW Bug began to flash. Adrenaline flowed as salt trucks and semis (the only other vehicles out in the middle of nowhere on 94 on this wintry night) passed, causing our little car to swerve. I slowed way down to 40, then 30, and began to pray. Headlights askew in the distance...another car, slid off the road. Anxious to get home after fabulous and pricey Chicago adventures, we had not anticipated staying anywhere another night but quickly decided that risking death wasn't worth it...time to find somewhere to rest our heads whilst waiting out the danger. We prayerfully inched forward like this for a slippery 12 miles before we made out that beautiful blue "Lodging" sign through the snow. There are three motels right in a row, but we figured the ol' Econo Lodge would be the cheapest, and by gum we were right. The chick in the office was a sweetheart, and before we knew it we were gratefully, though unexpectedly, shlepping our stuff again to a room. It was a little odd that she had us dragging it all up to the 2nd floor on outside stairs during a snowstorm when the place looked deserted, but beggars are not choosers after miles of white-knuckling. Flicking on the lights, we were pleased. The room was warm, spacious and clean, the bed huge. There was internet service, a dvd player, nice t.v., fridge, and a newer-looking shower. No ciggie smell or pests of the now-rampant variety whose names will not be spoken. Best of all, dirt cheap for our recently depleted wallets!!! We heard a bump here and there from other solace-seekers, but nothing distracting. We could have spent a frostbitten night digging the car and each other out of a ditch, but instead ended up watching Fubar 2 on the laptop, cozied in bed while the Snow Miser had his way outside. The next morning we zipped home on sunny, dry pavement, feeling traction on the road instead of our limbs! read more

I was very impressed. Our room seemed newly remodeled and was very pretty and clean. I loved the temperpedic matress and pillows. I also loved the scent. It smelled minty and fresh. We opened the windows and kept them open till about 10pm. It was a beautiful breeze and they have aromatic plants around the hotel. The price was excellent considering we received a suite and free breakfast. We had a very bad experience at the Doubletree in Holland earlier on our trip but Yelp reviewers gave the Econolodge.high marks and I'm so happy we took the plunge and stayed. Oh, one other thing. I didn't realize in the room description that the beds are doubles rather than a king in the 1 bedroom. So if your round, like us, you may be better off with 2 beds. :) The reason I didn't give it 5 stars the bathroom door and closet door looked dirty and the knobs were old and grungy. (I think someone missed painting them) The electrical outlets, switches and thermostat had that dark yellowing they get from age. These things were noticeable because the room seemed freshly painted with new furniture and draperies and it was a little strange seeing these little details that got missed. read more

Over the years, I have stayed in this hotel on more occasions than I can remember; from the time it was a New England Suites, then when it was an Howard Johnson's Suites and, now, as an EconoLodge Suites. NEVER have I had any complaints. Sure, there are minor cosmetic flaws here and there, but what lodging facilities don't? It is aways impeccably clean (and that's coming from a neat freak); the staff are extremely friendly and efficient; and, even though the suites are on the smallish side (but all have 2 rooms), you can't beat the price! With the 'senior discount', we paid $62-something, plus tax. One more thing I should mention is that because the hotel is right next to the highway it stands to reason you can hear the highway traffic. I don't regard that as being the fault of the hotel itself, and it isn't troublesome for me, personally, it's something that light sleepers should take into consideration when deciding to stay here (or not). read more

This is a good choice if you are looking for a cheap, quiet, and clean room for a night or so. The rooms and the hotel in general are very basic, purely functional. My room was neat and bug-free. The bed and towels appeared clean. The soap and shampoo provided are cheap, so bring your own if you're concerned about that. There's no toothpaste or toothbrushes either, as far as I could tell. No cigarette smell inside my room, but there is some outside along the hallways. There were a few permanent stains in the bathtub, but some wear and tear at a cheap hotel is to be expected. Room comes with microwave, fridge, wifi, and cable TV. The free breakfast includes coffee, apple and orange juices, milk, 4 types of cereal, plain bagels, english muffins, banana nut muffins, cream cheese, butter, and grape and mixed fruit jellies. read more

We were renting a room to pick up my son from camp. There was a fragrant smell throughout the hotel. I went into an asthma attack within ten minutes of arrival. I called Teladoc who called me in an inhaler to a 24 hour pharmacy. They would not refunded our credit card for the room. We ended up staying at the Baymont next store. Overall this was definitely worth the money. I wanted somewhere to stay while visiting family, but didn't want to break the bank doing so. Other reviews mentioned renovations and having a newly redone room. I don't think I was lucky enough to get one of those. The ceiling had some cracks in it, with a poor patching job. The shower needed some help. It was a walk in shower since I had a handicap accessible room (all that was available). The entire bathroom floor flooded when I would shower. This was a pain, especially when I walked back in there hours later to you the restroom and my feet got soaked from the water. Also, black mold lined the shower floor and walls. Spray some mold cleaner please. The bed I greatly enjoyed. It was not a cheap hard board I had to sleep on, but a nice mattress that I slept great on. read more

I flew in really late to Grand Rapids and the staff at econo lodge provided a shuttle for me at 1 AM. It was only a quick overnight stay, but the room was clean, comfy, and spacious and the value was great. I would definitely stay here again. read more

My family was super impressed with this hotel. The lady was at the front desk when we arrived, she was a jerk and didn't want to be bothered with actually doing her job. Once we got past that little hiccup though it was great. We got a 2 queen bedroom and we were definitely not expecting what we got. There are 2 rooms (one queen in each room) separated by a little counter with a microwave, sink, safe and mini fridge. The beds are super comfortable and the furniture is relatively nice. There are tvs in both sleep areas. The only complaints I have are ones I have at every hotel like the lack of bath towels and pillows but stuff that can be easily adjusted if I just asked... the location is perfect too. It's near a Walmart and surrounded by restaurants and a mall down the road. Everyone agreed we would definitely stay here again if we are ever in the area again. read more

Every Christmas we travel to GR to meet up with family and it's hard to pack everyone at grandmas for the night. The Crown Plaza is right around the corner and closest option. A couple years ago, one family member stayed at the Crown Plaza and we stayed here at the Econolodge. Since we went the "cheaper" route, the family were very curious of our night compared to the expensive hotel. We were amazed!! The rooms are truly all suites. You walk in to a living room area with a pullout couch, flat screen tv, and desk/chair. The bathroom is next- most are fully renovated, super clean and spacious. There is a separate additional vanity outside the bathroom with sink, small refrigerator, full length mirror. The last room is the master bedroom. You can get queen or king sized bed with a tv and dresser. Clean sheets, clean duvet cover, king size firm pillows. The Econolodge is not fancy or frilly but offers consistent cleanliness, complimentary breakfast, and great rates. So, for the past few years we have our traveling family members book rooms here for Christmas and they are happy to do so! read more

Our room smelled of smoke which was no big deal to us but we let the front desk know and she made a note on our room so we didn't get charged. The staff is very nice. I would give them zero star, if I could. On a lovely vocation from New York to Michigan. After 14 hours of driving, we were so excited to check in and lay down. But, the front desk staff told us, no records of our reservation!!!! Even though we called and double check with the staff on the phone before we left, since we won't arrive the hotel until 2-3 in the morning. They gave away our room!! I'm so disappointed, will never trust them to hold the reservation. read more

it's definitely clean, but the bed has that foam pad on top of its mattress of which I'm not a fan. a lot of people were staying there, and there was no problem with noise. One or two giant mosquitoes in the room when I arrived, but I think they were male and didn't bite. easily swatted away. a lot of cigarette burns on the plastic fixtures, but zero cigarette smell. I'm fine with that. tube TV, but they actually had a *dvd player* attached to it. I don't think I've EVER been in a hotel that gave you a dvd player. no *remote* for the dvd player (which would cause problems if you wanted to arrow around and select dvd menu options), but I was still able to watch a dvd by using the panel's "play" button as a "select" button. free breakfast was nothing but carbs (to be expected at this price range), but bonus points for *grape* juice in the juice machine. yummy. can't go wrong with the make-your-own waffle doodad, althought the pre-measured cups of waffle mix didn't make a full waffle. they probably have bad experiences with cleaning up waffle mix runoff. small'ish food area can get crowded, and there can be a wait to get to the waffle maker if a family with kids beats you to it. one of the fastest/most-reliable internet/wifi connections I've ever had at a hotel. and free. there was also a small fridge (bigger than dorm fridge), but its freezer didn't freeze my ice pak. still, better than no fridge at all. my west-facing metal door got red hot from the afternoon sun. don't bump your unsleeved arm on it when re-entering your room. ouch! A/C worked great. I'd stay here again as long as the price was below $90. read more

We had a room with 2 beds and it was nice each bed had its own sort of room and tv. Downsides: smoking rooms were alternated with non-smoking so we could smell cigarettes in our non-smoking room and our bathtub was pretty dirty and mildew stained. Air conditioning was marginal at best, hardly any towels, front desk clerks all smoked like chimneys, and I had to plunge the toilet myself. I have digestive issues. During my stay I had an episode and the toilet clogged. We left the room around 2, and i let them know. We came back around 9, and it was still clogged. My husband and I needed a place to stay. For a quick visit to Grand Rapids. We had a budget in mind and quickly found this lodge through Trivago. Great buy for the money! This was a cozy, well kept, clean place for 69$ per night. The room was very clean and included a separate area with sofa along with the sleep area. The hotel was also very quiet, even though it was full on Friday night and Saturday. everyone who worked there was friendly and smiled. We enjoyed a breakfast that included choices of fresh waffles, 3 cereals, instant oatmeal, fruit and fruit juice, hard boiled eggs, pastries and muffins, toast, bagels, milk and yogurt. The dining area was small but very clean and was open as late as 0930 am and 1030 am on weekends. We would definitely stay here again when we come to Grand Rapids. This hotel is also located close to just about any other market, restaurant or anything else you may need. read more

DON'T !! Just DON'T stay here! The receptionist had a crabby look & lousy attitude & that was the 1st clue. When we entered the room it stunk of either wet dog or mold I went to the desk now a guy gives me some disc of air freshener, which didn't work ! Then after a full day of working we just left to get a bite and upon our return the room Oder was still the same stink! That disc didn't work at all. Go to bed & Ohh NOoo! The mattress hits the box spring & the most noisy mattress ever is under us. it's just AWFUL! The creaking is like a horror movie! We cannot sleep, every move wakes one of us up. I tell the new desk lady in the morning the mattress is shot aka destroyed probably never changed since this place was built in the 80's & she just gives be a nod & smile ! We were a little skeptical about staying at an Econo Lodge, but trusted the other reviews and were richly rewarded. This hotel has amenities of places charging a lot more. The sign at the desk said that all rooms were suites; probably a carry-over from the building's prior incarnation as a Suburban Extended Stay. Our room was booked for a travel soccer tournament that we were playing in. Our first game ended up being 10:30 Saturday morning so we cancelled Friday night the Monday before since we had time to get there in the morning. After a long day in the sun at the tournament went to check in and they charged me as a no show Friday night. Our reservations clearly stated we had until 2pm to make changes on Monday and mine was time stamped at 10:30am. The clerk tried showing me the reservation sheet dated from March 7! Couldn't show me a recent copy with people's changes. Asked for a manager and he was so rude he kept interrupting me and not allowing me to speak. Said we'd have to get our refund from the soccer tournament company. Really? Went to our room called and made reservations at another hotel. Came back to desk to tell them we weren't staying for the current night, only then did the manager refund my "no show" night so he wouldn't lose out on our $$$. They also said others had had the same issue. They know they have you between a rock and a hard place because they've already run your card, all hotels are booked, and you & your family are exhausted. Afterwards they were pulling the same stunt on another family as we were leaving. As I said, do NOT stay here! read more
