Nice calm place to eat Ecuadorian food. The staff is very nice and the place is very clean. The food is delicious and taste healthy

Pretty reasonable Ecuadorian place. Prices and service are really good for amount of food you get! But there are better places in the city for cuisine. Defo a good option for the neighborhood. Had their grilled chicken which was pretty decent.

Great for the price with a nice, hole in the wall, down home type of feel. If you come here hungry, you will definitely leave stuffed. Since I was feeling fishy, I ordered the fried trout. We also had an order of fried calamari. The servers were pretty nice, but I have to admit that I thought the food took too long to arrive. I think the appetizers took about 30 minutes to arrive to the table. We dined at the restaurant around 1:30 pm, and we were the only folks in the restaurant so I do not think kitchen was super backed up. Honestly, I had no complaints about my trout (when it finally arrived). The portion sizes of out dishes were pretty darn large, and I was so full that I could barely walk to the subway. Although the restaurant has a full bar, I was a bit surprised (and a little disappointed) that the restaurant did not have Pilsener cerveza - one of the national beers of Ecuador. Oh well, maybe they'll have it for my next visit.

Been searching for an authentic Ecuadorian restaurant and this was about as close as I've found so far. The encebollado was perfectly seasoned (though could have used a bit more shrimp vs the tuna), and I really enjoyed the empanada, which reminded me of an Ecuadorian bakery my parents frequented when I was younger. They even threw in the random order of white rice that graces any self-respecting Ecuadorian's table EVEN IF it didn't actually pair with the meal (bonus points for authenticity.) I will dock for the seafood ratio a bit, and the fact that they didn't have any Ecuadorian desserts like quimbolitos, but this place is legit.

It's a pretty nice sports bar with large TV screens throughout the place so will definitely be on my list of places to hit up to watch a few games! Overall food and service was on point, but also it was a random weeknight where there wasn't a crowd. Either way, recommend this bar if you're looking to grab a bite or watch a game! Classic Waygu Burger - 4/5 Great tasting and juicy burger, but one thing I wish was included was a side of fries at bare minimum. Cook of the meat was on point Disco Fries - 5/5 - Think of it as poutine but with mozzarella instead. Great side dish to a burger

What to make of this place?…read more When we visited in September (at that time), a wanna-be sports bar had just taken over the Greek taverna Blue Sea Taverna (before that, two iterations of Akrotiri). Both Greek tavernas had failed or gone out of business. So we were curious to see what changes had been made. When we entered, we were initially confused because the seating, especially the lounge seating, did not create a sports bar vibe. Even adding a bunch of TVs did not give us that feel either. Instead, our initial impression was that they were trying to convert an old Greek taverna into a gastropub, similar to other well-known ones in the area. And I should also add we had not been following the local news about the controversy regarding their name association with a World War II fortified bunker that was blown up at the end of the Second World War, and only read about the controversy over their name after we left, and on social media. Apparently, the owner(s) were most likely unaware of its historical context when naming their establishment. So we did not factor that into this review. Upon entering the Wolf's Lair, the seating was that of a modified Mediterranean restaurant. We chose the comfy seating looking out towards 29th Street and 30th Avenue. It had been raining heavily, and so we were just glad to be inside. Because our initial impression was that we were in a Mediterranean gastropub, we ordered lamb chops with lemon potatoes. The waiter, who may have been one of the owners, informed us that this vegetable was not on the menu; however, when our chops arrived, as you can see from the photos, we were indeed served lemon potatoes. We got what we ordered, which made us happy, and the chops were cooked to perfection. As we usually do not drink alcohol, beverages were not factored into our review. However, there was one thing we found a little strange and creepy. When we left, one of the employees, presumably an owner, insisted on coming out to help take photos. This was a little off-putting. Nevertheless, we got some good shots. In writing this review, we spent a lot of time deliberating our experience at the Wolf's Lair. We focused on the restaurant, service, food quality, and atmosphere. While the overall experience was excellent, we did not find Wolf's Lair to have a sports-bar atmosphere, but rather a family-dining atmosphere. On the day we visited, there was hardly any action at the bar, and most of us seated were into the food, if nothing else, with one family having a birthday party for one of their children. Overall, we had a good experience. Whether we come back to see if the Wolf's Lair becomes an actual sports bar, well, that's another matter.

We had our own dedicated server, which made everything feel really seamless. They kept our drinks flowing the entire time, and it was a huge plus not having to flag anyone down. For food, I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was delicious. The coleslaw on it added great flavor (honestly, I just wish there was a bit more of it). It came with fries that were perfectly crispy--exactly how fries should be. Overall, I had a really enjoyable time. If I'm ever back in the neighborhood or if anyone asks me for a good brunch spot for groups, I'd definitely recommend this place.

Located in one the busiest areas in Astoria. There's always plenty of foot traffic. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. The food was very good overall. It's a bonus that brunch is served everyday until 4pm. For our meal, we ordered the Hangover Skillet and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes to share. Since there were only two of us, the portions were generous and left us satisfied. While the food and atmosphere were great. I wasn't impressed with the service. It wasn't terrible but it didn't match the dining experience. All in all, Oliver's still a solid.choice for brunch in Astoria.
