There isn't a gluten-free bread option for the sandwiches, but there is sourdough bread and there are non-sandwich items on the menu (like salad). It has kind of a coffee shop vibe but with great beer & food plus the staff is super friendly. Various seating is available inside but be sure to check the nice patio out back. They have beer on tap and they also have coolers with a good selection (and organized by type too, YAY!) Shelves with more beers after the coolers & even a sale section back in the corner. Honestly, such a brilliant concept. Beer, wine, cider, and cheese all in one spot, plus a beautiful backyard to enjoy it in. Pretty much all of my favorite things in one place. Came here for a nightcap! I had a red glass of wine and my boyfriend had a lager beer. The service was excellent, they were all super friendly. They have a lovely selection of beers and I love that they had wine for me. The back door leads to a lovely spot with party lights. We enjoyed our drinks back there while there are lots of table, it was fairly quiet that night. Nice and warm and soft, topped with beautiful, flakey salt. It was honestly one of the better pretzels I've ever eaten. But to top it off, folks, was a side of this house made bier cheese. The prices are really good, I'm talking $6-8 beers, and they're all craft! As for the food, it's also really good. I had the kale n sprouts salad with added bacon (it was massive chunks of bacon instead of bacon bits) and it was excellent, the Ploughman's lunch plate was slightly disappointing, get a bigger selection of cheeses instead, the cuban grilled cheese was good, and the favorite was the corner pub grilled cheese. The food is pretty cheap too and portions are small so you can sample a lot of things. It's not a sit-down restaurant, you have to order at the bar, so seating is on a first-come-first-served basis, and they bring the food out to you. read more

Also, this was my first time coming with more intense food sensitivities... being sensitive to alcohol, dairy, gluten, processed meats, and preservatives... really made this seem like a risky choice. I ordered the kale salad (next time I will ask for no dairy or less cheesy goodness, seems easy to accommodate.) and i'm lucky that goat cheese is easy on my body so the goat cheese sweet hot pepper poppers are faaaantabulous. And there is a SOLID selection of gluten free ciders. Many of the ciders have a sweet to dry indicator on the can which really helps for people who are also sensitive to too much sugar. Uhgs. Eating is hard for people like me! But we can make it happen. i highly recommend the citizen tulsi basil dry cider. When I told them it was busted and he saw it spilling all over the table, he asked me as if I still wanted it-- as if I'm ignorant of food safety, hospitality and customer service. He didn't offer a substitute and I walked out thinking I will never come here or bring anyone I know here. Ps I'm a human not a rat. Thanks so much for treating me like a second class citizen. Never give anything to a customer that is opened and spilling all over your own tables. Their beer selection is top notch, the people here are knowledgeable about beer and cheese, and no one is particularly pretentious. I guiltily still love the Astoria Bier and Cheese shops after having a a bad experience at one of them once. But it was the Broadway location. I could have sworn I wrote a review for this one already because I think I've been here at least half a dozen times. But yes, always a huge selection of beers in the fridge and a good selection of a few rare brews on tap. Be mindful of their $2 corking fee on bottles. Another thing - really depends I guess on the store's mood but they either have price tags on the bottles or do not half of the time. When I went in last night for a beer before an event they were not on the bottles and had to be more decisive with what I would 'assume' would be affordable instead of actually picking a beer I really would want to try. But also asked in advance before they popped it open how much it was. Wish they would remedy this situation more consistently so it would be an easier experience with selecting a beverage. Their cheese curds, pickle platters, etc. are always great. Never tried a sandwich here but I'm banking on it being great with the large amount of delicious cheeses. It was our first time visiting, and we really loved the laid-back and ultra-casual atmosphere. Up front, you've got a small café and bar area with plenty of ever-rotating taps behind the counter. Along the left wall, you'll see the food goods they have on sale followed by refrigerators filled with an endless variety of craft beer bottles. Walk out the door to the back, and you'll find their charming outdoor patio. Food was exceptional all around~! Our meat and cheese plate was a nice segue into the real reason we fell in love with Astoria Bier and Cheese: THEIR GRILLED CHEESES. The Figgy Piggy had the perfect blend of sweet and savory, balancing prociutto and fig jam with a mild taleggio. The reason for the 3 star rating right off the bat, is that by accident I set the GPS to the wrong location, as one is on Broadway and second is on Ditmars Blvd. Not realizing the difference as the name matches the Queens Beer book voucher. When my friend and I arrived to the Broadway location we asked if we could redeem our beers and all we got was attitude from the waitress. The vibe was negative and instead of her just mentioning that there is a second location, it felt like I was getting kicked out and shunned for simply asking a question. Instead of this woman being so unwelcoming, she could have told us we were at the wrong location and told us to stay and have a beer at this location. She could have been a little nicer. We arrived at the second location (Ditmars) within minutes, as it's was just over a mile away. It held the same feel and décor as the other place. The menu of beers on tap is written a white tile backsplash, but beers were different at both locations. As we already ate before, I browsed the menu and would come back for the meat plate or the Ditmars Mac which is a mix of three cheese. Huge variety of meats, some as expensive as over $30 a pound! They also have a Bier and cheese pairing plate which sounds like a great option. Would recommend the Ditmars location based on the quick mistake and encounter at the Broadway location. Definitely not the regular sit down for a beer and wings with a game on, instead more chill for a sit down and a good conversation and a tasting of something new. Will have to come back to experience the plates and slates. Also both locations offer catering. Both locations offer huge selections of beer in bottles as well as shown in the picture.
