I understand the local love for this place. They were very friendly and attentive. Place is old and small but appeared clean. But as far as barbecue goes this is not it. Ordered the three meat with brisket, chicken, and ribs. Brisket was not fresh, tender, or tasty. It was definitely left over from whenever but most certainly not cooked within the last 24 hours. And was definitely not cut specifically for me. I was there at about 1:30 pm and felt like it should have been fresh. Chicken was extremely average. Not bad at all but definitely nothing worth noting. Same with ribs. No char at all. Flavorful and decent but not worth coming back for. Beans were good. Potato salad was good. Peach cobbler was average. Sweet tea on point. I wanted to love it but truthfully the meat is better at Dickeys. And we all know that is hit or miss. The owner is super nice!!!!!! The pulled pork was very good. The ribs were very tasty an fall off the bone tender. I like a when they are not so fall off the bone but that is a personal taste. Nevertheless the flavor the ribs were great. I'm not a huge fan of sausage but the sausage was good. I ordered the brisket as my 3 rd meat but they substituted the sausage instead. Service was great and Ed himself was taking the order and we had a great conversation. Food was delicious. I did the three meats (sausage, chopped beef bbq and rib). I'm a Carolina guy so wasn't going to do the pork in Texas. Going for the beef. So good. The rib and it was one rib was very meaty and fell off the bone. Great sauce and good coloring. Sausage was good but I really enjoyed the chopped beef. Good flavoring and cooked to perfection. The beans and potato salad were good BUT the Mac a cheese. Oh my. Soooo good. We had an appointment at the hospital so I pulled up Yelp and looked for nearby restaurants. Ed & Tom's BBQ came up and was close by, so we gave it a try. We were glad we did!!! This is a totally "old school" place. The smoking pit is larger than the dining area. Place was packed with oil field workers having lunch and a line of folks grabbing orders to go. Went with the pulled pork and ribs on a recommendation of one of the folks eating there, and it did not disappoint. Tender, with a great flavor! Next time I am going with the stuffed baked potato. This is a VERY small place, that doesn't look like much from the outside...BUT...it is a must try if you're in the Odessa, TX area. We had the daily special (smoked meatloaf) and the 2-rib plate. The pork ribs and the collard greens were definitely the highlights; some of the best we've ever eaten. The ribs were moist, meaty, smokey, and served naked (sauce optional). The collards were perfectly done, also with a deep smokey flavor. The Mac-&-Cheese was VERY cheesy, with a little chili heat; but super tasty. The cornbread was slightly sweet, and perfectly moist (not at all crumbly). I found the meatloaf to be very tasty also, but a little loose for my taste. Driving thru Odessa at lunchtime and found the Yelp review. We were looking for good BBQ and this looked like it. Sausage, brisket and pork ribs were excellent. Prices were reasonable and portions were good. We were in a motorhome and we parked across the street in a field obviously used by larger trucks. It was just after 11:00 am and we were only the second table. As soon as we got our food the rest of the world found out it was lunch time. Tremendous amount of large takeout orders being picked up. An absolute jewel and I wish Texas Monthly would go and give it the recognition it deserves (talkin' to you Daniel Vaughan!). This is a classic TX BBQ joint. We had the good fortune to be there when the proprietor, Ed, was running the show and that probably added a star to the experience. He's the real deal and if the BBQ lacks anything in quality, Ed makes up for it in personality. I'll be back and I'll send my friends. Food was amazing! All my son wanted since we have been on our road trip was brisket while we were in California. We promised when we got back to Texas he'd get some. We found this gem of a place in Odessa. He had to the GIANT brisket baked potato and LOVED it!! I had the chopped brisket sandwich. BBQ sauce is on point. My daughter devoured her sliced brisket sandwich. It was tender and moist. My husband said his pulled pork was the best he had ever had. Ed the owner was there and is very welcoming!! The sausage is probably the best we've ever had! The brisket, ribs, and chicken were all perfectly smoked, delicious, and tender... The owner was super hospitable and kind. After we left, and got to the gas station about 15 minutes away, I realized I left my debit card at the restaurant! The owner told me to stay where I was, and he would bring me my card since they were closing up. He showed up with a smile on his face within 20 minutes. Great people, running a great business! On a road trip we stopped here and had the sausage sandwich and the brisket Kell sandwich (includes a scoop of potato salad) and the Mac n cheese. The sausage is made in house and delicious! The brisket was just the right combo of fatty, meaty and burnt ends! So good! But the Mac n cheese surprised us. When we looked at it, it had herbs and bits of mushroom in it. It smelled so good I forgot to pay and ran out as soon as they gave it to me. I just wanted to get home and eat it, and as further punishment each time I had to walk back past their jaw dropping lay good smelling smoker to pay further delaying the time until I could devour the best bbq I've ever had in Odessa. It's payoff was worth it you could say. 5 meat plate is expensive but absolutely worth it for the smoked quality of the meats. You can tell the hours of love that went into every bite. And they start with good quality meat to begin with, especially the sausage which is well seasoned. But genuinely everything was excellent, and had amazing char.
