Doesn't look like much from the outside, but damn, the bbq is amazing! Had the rib plate with extra ribs that was overflowing with goodness, including a jalapeno and some side onions. Solid cole slaw too. You can skip the German potato salad though; a little lackluster. We always get our Friday night ribeye steaks from the Rose. They are seasoned incredibly well and cooked to the right degree. Sides are plentiful. But they only do this on Friday night so get your steaks early. read more

For a quaint little divey place this scores a five star review. I LOVE little local places where the staff has tons of charm. Bible verses and Texas pride fills it with most of the wall space covered in kitsch. My only problem is that I didn't see a smoker there, maybe I missed something? Yes I am a Yankee but I know good Q when I see it. The brisket lacked a smoke ring so I assume this place buys it. The staff is very sweet with amazing southern hospitality but I just didn't understand the smoker situation. Wow!! We stopped in at around 2pm for lunch and we were blown away by the delicious food and the hospitality. The lady working the register was extremely sweet and very flexible and accommodating with the menu. We ordered the family pack #1 which was one pound of meat, two 1 pint sides, and one pint of dessert. She let us sub the desert for other food and split the 2 pint sides into 4 half pint sides. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS. The only thing i could say is that i personally would season the green beans a little more but they were simple and still very good. The brisket and ribs were cooked perfectly and the German potato salad was my favorite side. Don't let the hole in the wall look of the place deceive you, this place has authentic home cooking!! Yes, that location is correct. A mile west of the freeway loop, in the middle of overgrowth and the occasional shack. Go slowly, the sign comes up quickly and the driveway's hard to see. I parked there and said "seriously? This is the holiest of holes in the walliest of walls." I went inside, and most of the tables were occupied with locals. People were driving through or stopping inside to pick up orders. And it's been around at least 15 years, says the outdoor sign. Okay, there must be something to it. See the star rating above. I am on a BBQ binge, but I saw this place offers Fritos pie. I wanted both. The helpful lady (actually, there were several of them) pointed out that what I wanted is the Cowboy Pie. That is what you want as well. That is what the random guy who stopped in a half hour later wanted, and I confirmed it. It takes Fritos pie and replaces the mundane ground beef with extraordinary BBQ brisket. The brisket is just the right amount of chewy and tender, and coated with the right amount of sauce. Now, I could argue that it was overwhelmed by the beans and Fritos (and cheese and optional jalapenos), but really there was an equal amount of each layer, and I was just eating all the beef first because of how delicious it is. I would imagine you can't go wrong ordering anything along the lines of BBQ or pie. All of the staff were chatty and helpful. The place is small but clean and very homey. Unquestionably the best BBQ I've had on this Texas excursion, and I would think it's the best in the Permian Basin based on the paucity of other well-rated places. Come off the Interstate and enjoy some real Texas BBQ the way you've heard it should be. read more

HOLY MOTHER MARY JOSEPH! We stopped by here starving from our trip from El Paso and boy am I impressed. We ordered a three meat plate with brisket, sausage, and ribs. I'm not usually a rib fan, I don't like to pick them and eat them off the bone. However, this rib must have been pulled from Christ himself because it is the single best piece of meat I have ever put in mouth. It seriously brought tears to my eyes! The good: The brisket was outstanding and I usually don't order brisket. It was just so moist, tender and flavorful. It was easy to curl it up and dip it right into the little barbecue sauce cup. Cute quirky decor , like a sign that says "Hippies must use back door". Friendly staff, it seemed like it was the owner who took my order/delivered the food. The bad: "bad" might be a little strong, but I didn't think that the coleslaw or beans were anything special. They weren't "bad" just kind of average. I can't tell you how happy I am that we found this little gem. I was in town for business and wanted to find a good BBQ place. I grew up in GA and spent some time working at a BBQ restaurant, so I know good BBQ. This was by far the best I've had in years. Good quality meat that was cooked to perfection. We had the cowboy pie, which I highly recommend, a pound of ribs, and a bunch of sides including cobbler. Everything was delicious!! This is now my favorite restaurant in the Odessa area, and I'll be hitting it up every time I'm in town. PS - The owner is an absolute doll!
