I have been a member at this Y since 1999. It used to be a very good gym facility but has gone downhill. The equipment maintenance is poor, especially for the cardio equipment. There are several stationary bikes - Peletons and other types - that have been out of commission for more than a month - and when I asked about it, I was essentially told "tough luck - they'll be repaired when we can get someone in here." In addition, the free weight area often is very crowded and it's almost impossible to do any kind of circuit training most times of the day. If the equipment maintenance problems continue, I'll join Lifetime or another gym that makes cardio equipment a priority. read more

I've never been a member of anything so disorganized. I thought I might like to join the Y and take some classes as it's cheaper than joining a gym. But I wanted to take a class first and see how I liked it. I bought a day pass and tried to register for a class but I couldn't. I called and the front-desk lady said you can't sign up for a class with a day pass but she would register me under her name. It was a class that fills up really quickly and there were only two spots left. I went to the Y, told the front desk ladies I was there for a class and they took my word and gave me directions to the studio. I took the class and talked to a couple of people. About three weeks later I signed for up for a membership and tried to register for a class. The registration system wouldn't work on my computer. It said "error: unathorized". So I gave up and called the front desk. That lady said my membership probably hadn't gone through yet -- the credit card payment certainly had. So she signed me up under her name and then suggested I stop by the desk after class and ask. So I get to the Y and tell the ladies I'm there for a class and another employee was on his way downstairs and walked me to the location. Then on the way out I stopped at the front desk to ask about my problem registering. I think the first lady was right, the system just hadn't caught up because I had no issue when I looked at it on my phone. But I found out some interesting things that I should have been told. The day pass is so you can come take a tour and then if you want to take a class they'll see if there's anything available at that time. So it costs $25 just to tour and then you might get to take a class. When I did my membership I just got an email saying "click this link and create a password". That was it. No other instructions. When I was talking to the front desk ladies after class that's when I found out you're supposed to download an app, log in and you get a barcode to scan when you come in so they'll know who all is in the building. Twice (once with the day pass and once with a brand-new membership) I walked into the building said "I'm here to take a class" and they gave me directions on where to go. And the instructors don't pay attention to who's in the class. I guess if five people signed up and 20 showed up they would notice. Twice I was signed up under someone else's name and it was never an issue. I could have been anyone walking in off the street for who knows what reason. And both times I had to wait at the desk to get attention, I could have just waltzed on through. And in both classes I told the instructor I was new to the class. The first instructor asked a couple of questions and told me I probably ought to be in a different class. One of the participants showed me what to get from the supply closet (mat, weights and so on). The second class I told the instructor it was my first time and she pointed out what to get from the supply closet. But I never felt welcome. How hard is it to say "I'm Suzy, the instructor, welcome to class". After the first class, I talked to two of the women and the instructor and they gave me some suggestions on classes to try. So that was good. The classes themselves are fine. I'm more out of shape than I thought. All the front-desk ladies have been wonderful once you get their attention. It just would have been nice to have some clarity on what a day pass includes and when you get a membership to be told about the app and signing in at the facility and it might be 48 hours before you are able to register online. read more

Do NOT waste your time here. Came to ask about programs and felt like we had to trip the staff to even acknowledge us. WE had to initiate the conversation. No one acknowledged us when we walked in. No one asked if they could help us. This facility DOES NOT OFFER RECIPROCITY WITH OTHER YMCA's!!! BUT "WE WOULD LOVE IF YOU WILL SPEND $200 A month with us based on this experience though" NO THANKS!!! read more

Great staff at the summer camp, but the older kids and the younger kids aren't separated for the day, which proved to be problematic. They were exposed to topics and behaviors from older kids that were very troubling to me. The camp was very responsive, but they won't be going back. My children attended for 2 yrs. read more

We have been members at the "Y" for many years now. Is it fancy, no. Definitely no lifetime fitness vibes here. HOWEVER! It is family friendly. It does have many amenities. We love the outdoor pool in the warmer months. Plus there medium size gym has most if not all gym equipment needs. My younger son loves the basketball courts. In my opinion is it the nicest YMCA I've been to....naw. I am still going to stay it's solid and does the job. Really wish it had an indoor track like another around the area does! read more

The center has lots of programs but the staff are not very helpful. At least for me and my family. I have a hard time reaching their after school program Brookes. I feel as if she just doesn't want to work with me or my family and to be honest it's terrible customer service from a Christian based organization. It takes her literally days to respond or return a call. Good thing this is her last year using this particular center. Hope to get better results out of the one closer to our new home read more

I love this location. I love the staff, I love that it's family-friendly, and I love that I can come in, drop off my kids and know they're well taken care of, and go workout. I wish the childcare hours were a bit different, as it ends up making it so I can't come before 3:30 and then I'm stuck dealing with traffic if I workout for an hour. The whole place is fantastic though, and I'm so glad we joined in January when it was free to join (no membership fee). We are most looking forward to using the pool this summer and spending our days lounging and basking in the sun. read more

So I decided to go workout after a day of work and surprisingly got thrown aback with a very rude and snotty older front desk staff member. She wasn't inviting at all and it seemed I was being monitored while I was there finding my way through the facility. Decent facility as far as the outline but the staff sucks! read more

As a YMCA of Georgia member, I can use any of the YMCAs in the state. I use 3 relatively regularly and mostly for the pools. This is my favorite of the 3. The staff is super friendly, from the people working the front desk to the lifeguards. The indoor pool here is great for lap swimming. The lanes are wide and easy to split without having to circle swim. The wall clock is large with easy to read red numbers, great for doing sprints. The water is a little on the warm side, but no warmer than most indoor pools. The locker rooms are always clean and bright, with well-maintained showers, curtains, stools, benches, and lockers. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the children's and family programming when my sons are old enough to participate. read more

As a YMCA for the past 6 years, I know for a fact that the resources that this YMCA provides is worth the price. The staff here are very friendly except for one lady at the front desk. I could be wrong but I felt it would be pretty essential for the front desk members to be welcoming (especially since they are the first people that people come into contact when they enter the facility). It seems as if there is a change in the cleaning staff--- the facility has gotten slightly dirtier in the past couple months. read more

The gym here is overly crowded there is almost no space to do an work because there is so much cardio equipment. The weight equipment is old compared to the other two locations I've been too. They want you to wipe it down but there isn't anything to wipe it down with. After my work out I showered and changed at the gym accidentally left my jeans there went back and they are no where to be found had I went to one of the others where someone is constantly cleaning up. I don't see how someone can just walk away with someone else's clothes. Other things are imaginable but jeans. I more than likely won't be returning to this location. read more

Disappointed with summer camp this year. First of all, they made everyone wear masks even though this is an outdoor camp. The CDC recommended masks for campers and the Y decided to blindly follow it and completely disregard common sense. Secondly, I did not feel a lot of engagement from the camp coordinators/directors. Parents received the same generic email every week, no pictures, no updates on pick up or drop off, it was very impersonal. The prior year the director interacted with parents at pick up/drop off and knew the kids by name, their friends and would tell us updates, their funny stories, would text pictures from the day, etc. Not sure if I would send my kid again. It just seemed like they gave up. read more

Clean, new equipment, friendly staff. This is a great family YMCA. There is a giant teen center complete with cool furnishings, cafe, and game tables. They have basketball courts, a rock climbing wall (limited to Sunday and a few off hours) and a great outdoor pool with slide for the kids. This facility has an indoor lap pool, steam room, large hot tub. Cardio and machines have plenty of space. The free weights area is tight, a little light on equipment and weights, and doesn't quite feel "tough" enough, and I am afraid Arnold Schwarzenegger would think it is for "girlie men"! read more

Affordable gym with a decent amount of amenities. Indoor and outdoor pool with a water slide for the kids, plus plenty of summer programs for children as well. I come here everyday over my lunch break and am always able to get in a quick workout. What I most enjoy about this YMCA is that it is connected to the Alpharetta Greenway. Lots of members leave the locker rooms and head out for a run or bike ride on the nature trail. Most of the free weights and other workout equipment is fairly new, and the area is well kept. Full indoor basketball court and rock climbing wall as well. I pay $35/month for my entire family, so you really can't beat that anywhere else. This place is rarely overcrowded which is rare for a gym in this area. read more

Compared to all the other swim/gym/tennis clubs in the area that will cost you the price of a small mortgage to join, this brand new YMCA facility is a great bargain. I almost regret that I'm writing this review for fear that it will become overcrowded with other people who have the same thinking we do. We joined this YMCA mainly for the swimming pool in the summer months. They have a great indoor olympic pool and an incredible outdoor pool with a 12-foot deep end, water slide, diving board and a zero entry slope on the shallow end for the little kiddos. We love spending our weekends here with the kids (ages 1 and 14). There's truly something for everyone. What I love is that evry 30 minutes or so, they have "adult swim" which allows you to get some laps in, or swim without being jacked in the face by some kid's pool toy. The rest of this Y has an impressive indoor rock wall for climbing, a nice basketball court, weight room and locker facility. read more

the nursery staff has been extremely rude to me every time I have dropped off my twins. I was late by 7 minutes the first time I went (I was a new member- total accident), and someone was searching for me as I was on my way back, and I was "reminded" (very rudely) by each nursery person to be back on time. I have 4 kids and it is always chaotic for me trying to drop everyone off, but the nursery staff has never once showed any type of compassion, only annoyance when my babies are fussy or I have (another) blow out to deal with. Definitely not a place I feel confident coming to leave my babies, which is disappointing because as a stay at home mom I was really looking forward to coming and having some time to myself in the gym. Also, I gave it 4 tries, and was treated badly every time. One time I took my kids to the indoor pool to swim and play, but they had half of the free swim area blocked off, and some lady was walking around the pool area yelling at people for various reasons the whole time we were there. They also NEVER told me the "rules" and barely gave me a tour, so I walked around clueless and felt frustrated when I kept breaking rules I didn't know about. don't waste your money!!! read more

IT'S OKAY, JUST NOT FOR ME! I have decided to discontinue my membership with the Alpharetta YMCA and here is why: I thought that a couple of the classes were boring and poorly executed. Members aren't always diligent about wiping down equipment when they are literally dripping with sweat. I hate the sound of weights being slammed. There have been two increases in dues in the past six months and no upgrades or changes to justify the increase. I don't like having to wait to use equipment. If I have to jump off of the electric equipment to grab a quick drink or to simply readjust, my stats are immediately lost. Classes are held at limited times. I prefer a class between 5am and 6am. When I think about taking my fitness to the next level and hiring a trainer, I don't think of the Y. I enjoy working out at home more. It's just easy and I can do it anytime I want. When I see trainers (their level of fitness), at the gym, I want to feel a healthy dose of envy and motivation, not concern. This facility is best suited for seniors, families and kids. I have watched them work with seniors and those that appear to be recovering from injury and they tend to excel in this area. However, I have also seen that same pace applied in other areas and it just doesn't work for me because I tend to work at a different speed and I like it fast. If you enjoy working out with your kids, (literally in the same class and doing the same activity), this is a nice gym to do so. Finally, there is no better place for teens, (leadership activities) and young kids, (child care, camps, after school programs and more). Bottom line, I have simply outgrown this particular "facility" and need a real gym (bare bones stripped down), where I can get a focused work out, looking a hot mess and not even care. read more

I have been coming to this gym for a over a year now and it is a very unique environment while at the same time maintaining all of the essentials of any gym. Certainly not a place to worry about the egotistical show offs that probably just go to the gym to be seen, and the pressure associated with the normal gym is not something that you will experience while you are here. Saying this place is a family gym is a huge understatement, if I were living in a town alone I would probably chose to go elsewhere, but because I have younger siblings who love all of the amenities, such as the play center and outdoor family pool, I decided to take my money here. From a friendly greeting upon entering, to clean locker rooms, well maintained equipment and facilities, to the accommodating scheduling of their fitness classes, and not to mention a pretty cool teen center, this place is a go to and a must have membership for family fitness and fun. BUDGET SAVING TIP: If you have a young teenager in the household, have them sign up for the lifeguarding classes and the swim instructor classes. They can easily land their first job at the YMCA and then you can qualify for the employee discounted membership, even if you are a part time employee! There is a nice sense of community here. There are regulars in classes and I like seeing the same faces. I love that it's near the greenway I can ride my bike here. Some classes can be crowded and occasionally the instructor comes in a few minutes just before class, but maybe she's coming from another class? They really try to help give back to the community here and have great programs for kids who wouldn't otherwise get to go away to camp. read more

My son had a horrible experience at this camp. He was bullied and finally experienced a physical altercation with the kid who bullied him. Despite numerous emailed/voiced concerns, the matter was not dealt with to my satisfaction until the last day of camp when the child was removed. We returned to the camp today only to find out the child was allowed back. My son has been immediately removed. Camp is to be a fun, safe place and this camp did not provide either of these. read more

I was one of those kids who was always picked last in gym class and preferred to be inside reading a book so I cannot say I have a love of exercise. But, after two pregnancies I had to do something to get healthy and to have a little me time and the Y fit the bill. Don't feel intimidated here, this isn't a place only for hardbodies or wannabe MILF's. There is a nice mix of ages and body types so you will feel comfortable. The class selection isn't as great as you would have in some of the other gyms but the other amenities (free childcare! Pools! Tons of stationary equipment) and inexpensive price ($81 for a family membership) more than make up for that. The instructors are very friendly and with very few exceptions really seem to care about your health and wellness. Make sure you sign up for the Coach Approach fitness training that comes with your membership, it really does make all the difference. I may not like to exercise but this location (and the smaller clothing sizes) make the difference. read more

I shopped gyms in the area for my parents ~ 60 yrs old. This place had great services, coed steam room, tv's on cardio machines, age appropriate classes and friendly community. Ana set up their guest pass, hit each selling point quickly and with humor. With gyms it's usually not the price but whether you will be able to regularly attend it. But with 2 adult membership about $60-$70/month, and under 18 children free, this community center is a great match and a great deal. read more

I've been going to this facility for the past 3 years. I love the zumba, kick boxing, yoga classes. The instructors are great. Sometimes it gets crowded, but the staff has it all figured out. They have been able to manage the class sizes for those specific timings when they now know it will get crowded. This year in March, i started using the indoor pool for the first time. At first it was all good. But i noticed a couple of times that the swimming pool water was not clean. Once i went there at 9am on a Saturday, thinking by going early i can beat the dirt that comes in with the pools being more crowded/used. But even at 9am in the morning, the pool at spit with phelgm and nasal excretions floating around. That made me not want to use the pool ever again. I probably gave the indoor pool a break for 2 months and went back in May and found the same things again. In June, i noticed dead roaches and more phelgm in the water. That was kind of the breaking point for me. I went upstairs and complained and also reported that the water does not seem clean and should be given more attention. I havent been there since. I hope its gotten better. Other than the pool, the elliptical machines are very limited. They seem to always be occupied, making me think they need more elliptical. As long as i stick to the cardio classes/zumba/kickboxing/yoga/crank it up i'm a happy camper. I always liked YMCA for the kids camps and activities. The Pool and some gym equipment are a let down, especially the indoor pool. read more

During my recent visit to the indoor pool and hot tub I decided to sit in the provided chairs in the shallow part of the outside pool. As I approached the young man at the table seen me coming from inside said nothing. As soon as I got pass him there was a lady that came out of nowhere asking where my card was I informed her it was upstairs at desk due to me first going in upstairs and then changing and later deciding to go to the outside pool. The lady asked for my name because she was going to get my card I informed her that it's fine but I will be going back in because my Children are inside exercising. She was flustered and made a statement that I was just checking because you could have come from anywhere I was a little aggravated so I responded I could have but not with a swimsuit on dripping with water. ‍ My children came outside shortly after and she had something to say to them. I asked her for an explanation because I'm very a matter of factual She tried to explain so mess. The YMCA needs a customer service training. The Fake emergency doors that connect the inside pool to the outside pool at least one should be accessible. I'm new so i'll give them two more try's after that I'm done. read more

Communication breakdown between departments. Example: Whirlpool has been closed at least four days now. No one knows when it will be repaired or reopened, no matter who you ask. I've been a member since the doors first opened. My 16 and 18 year old daughters were 2 and 9 months old when it opened. The YMCA has been wonderful for our entire family over the years, so it is disappointing to see it go downhill. It has been very dirty and not kept up well. You can see the dried sweat down the sides of the treadmills. Many people do cardio before weight training and are dripping with sweat. I believe they should be asked to put on dry clothing before using the weight benches and equipment. Time for a change. read more

The YMCA runs the after school program, Prime Time, at my children's school. We are new to the school and area so I had a lot of questions leading up to their first day at Prime Time. My experience with them has been very challenging and unsatisfactory. 1. On-line registration is cumbersome and very confusing. 2. The staff is slow to respond to email, which is their preferred method of communication. It took 10 days to receive an initial response. 3. The payment process is not clearly communicated during the registration process. They charge tuition a month in advance. Take that and multiply it by 2 and it becomes expensive to pay after school care a month in advance. They do allow you to pay the tuition weekly but you need to pay the monthly tuition FIRST, then you can pay weekly for the NEXT month. So you are paying double tuition within one month. It is very complicated, confusing and expensive - it is a financial burden. 4. They do not allow monthly tuition to be pro-rated if you are out of town. If your children are not in Prime Time due to travel, you still need to pay the full tuition rate. Again, very unfair and expensive for families. The only positive thing I have experienced with the YMCA's Prime Time is the on-site director. She is nice, friendly but keeps the children in-line. She also makes sure the children complete their homework and helps them when necessary. She explained the on-site processes and procedures (so I had no questions) and responds quickly to emails and texts. I feel very comfortable having her watch over my children. As a working parent, I have over 10 years of experience dealing with day care centers and after school programs but working with the YMCA Prime Time has been a negative and challenging experience. I will defiantly be looking for other alternatives and do not recommend them. read more

Thic review is directed at the Youth Sports Program only (Director, Jessica Tucker). The whoe enire youth sports program is so poorly run, it's a joke amongst parents. Soccer uniforms were ordered late and therefore did not arrive until the season was half way over. Soccer photos are still not available now that the season is over a month finished. Soccer game field scheduling was non-existant the whole season. The YMCA needs to be managed better and that starts with a new sports director! Ive been a member of the East Cobb YMCA and the Norcross YMCA, and have NEVER seen such incompetance! read more

I would not recommend this ymca in Alpharetta. They are racist especially to Asian. The customer care is zero star out of 5 stars. They just get mad for no reason, and if I am taking time to answer, they were saying "Okay? Okay?" What did I do wrong? After I said okay, they were like okay bye and just hang up without asking like is there anything that they can help me. I thought YMCA is honest and responsibility. But this YMCA is not. I don't know about the daycare staff, but the regular staff around the place is EXTREMELY RUDE. They employ mostly 15 year olds in the summer, most of whom have serious attitude problems. This review is exclusively about the after school program. I have almost a decade of childcare experience and I have never been so horrified by this program. The children are yelled at, disrespected and borderline abused during their time at Primetime. The leadership, including the program director, does not show any interest in the well being of the children. I feel truly sorry for the children that attend this program and for the parents that do not know what a hurtful environment their children are in. read more

I have been a member of the Y in Alpharetta for a while, but sadly it is going downhill. It is not kept up well. Add to it the worst customer service, I have ever experienced. Anything you ask them at front desk like registration to program/changes to membership, they ask us to do online. On the webpage there is not customer contact number, but the chat button which forces you to email them. Notoriously, emails from hear or to membership administrator never get answered, unless you run after them :-( read more
