The equipments could some updates or maybe some fixing. I dont want to use the elliptical and have it making a weird noise every time I make a move. Some of the mats for you to stretch on can be replaced, it has been peeling and the colors are fading. The staff is less than friendly. read more

This place has THE WORST customer service EVER! I wanted to try out the yoga class at Winward parkway, Alpharetta,GA. The yoga instructor was 20 min late (I left after 20 min and she still wasn't there) and the rude lady, Julian, at reception didn't bother to tell us until 15 minutes after the class was supposed to begin. Just as a favorite restaurant becomes an extension of one's home, I have come to consider LA fitness at Windward Pkwy my own personal gym. I have been going there for years now. I simply love the atmosphere and the people I meet regularly at the pool, sauna and the spa. Over the years, many of them have become close friends. Considering that this is one of the busier gyms in the area, the facility is clean and hygenic and operated efficiently. More than anything else, I love the guys at the front office. Jeff and Kyle in particular, and the rest of them have always treated me well, and I feel welcome and comfortable each time. After a hard day's work, I look forward to my one hour at this gym, It relaxes me, and sets the tone for the rest of the day. I strongly recommend this place to anyone who wishes to get back into a healthy routine. Along with your workout, you are sure to meet some great people. What more can one ask for? At 4:20 on Memorial Day the dude closing the place shut off the lights in the facility as a way to say they were closing. Hey I get it--Memorial day holiday--it's cool if you close early--but guess what--turning off the lights like that turns the locker room completely dark. Members had to use their cell phones to open their lockers. Plus---I'd say it causes an unsafe situation--especially for the women in their locker room. Advice--make an announcement that you are closing early and make sure people are out of the locker rooms. read more

Looks great, has everything, classes, pool, racquetball, basketball, cycling, weights, machines, smoothie bar, etc. I have my first personal trainer meeting coming up and once I have gone a month I will update review and experiences. This place is always packed, I get it gyms are busy and especially during peak hours it's going to be way busier (which is when I go) but there is way too many people. It's a good gym for your recreational work out. If you are looking for the standard amenities this is the place for you. The equipment normally works and very minimal wait times at lunch. The sauna stays at a good temperature, which is a nice 200 degrees. A deep clean of the shower area is definitely needed. read more

I usually love this La fitness cause of the area but Jabrell just made it a terrible experience. When I come In for my temperature check I stick my head forwards and right away dismissed 'd with an attitude saying give him my writs . Also to make a point to let me know when's he working I better make to remember comply to his preference . First of all I don't like just like to stick my head foreward but that's how many la Fitness do their temperature check. I'm just trying to comply to their safety checks . Also I don't think I pay a monthly fee so I can walk in and employees can demand that I listen to their personal preference . Also for someone who's at the front door checking 100+ people a day he should be at least wearing a mask . He's obviously very unprofessional and rude but he could at least fake it a little. I hope he doesn't stay there too long. He need to learn to how to speak to a human and how to ask for things . Was a LA Fitness member since I was in college (over 10 years) but it was very discouraging to stay as a member. I have 2 main reasons. Reason 1: I started out with a $34.99/mo $99 initiation. However, as time went on they lowered the rates for new members to $24.99 to $29.99 and some even join in at $20 for joining as a group. When I mentioned if I could have my rate lowered to at least $29.99 because I knew no one else with a higher rate than mine, the worker politely helped me and said it would apply on my next bill. Two months later it was still $34.99. I asked again, they said sorry and said it would apply on the next billing cycle but still it was $34.99. It made me a it upset and I was tired of asking for a lower rate. It just seems unprofessional how this was not corrected for me even after the 2 chances. I know that the 3rd times a charm but, I no longer felt like it was worth it to ask. I would rather just quit and join a closer gym with lower rates. Reason 2: Another problem was with the way they closed up the gym. The staff has always been friendly over the 10 years I went. However, when it came to closing time, they are a bit pushy. They provide a warning that the gym will be closing soon. However, when the time comes, instead of just announcing it again, they shut off the lights. Even lights in the locker room are turned off. I think this is especially dangerous for people that are on wet floors hurriedly leaving (people could get hurt). I hope an employee in LA Fitness reads this and tries to make some changes on those two points. Thank you for letting me workout at your facility for 10 years (although I am still fat, thats my fault not yours) but please do keep those 2 points in mind for your current members. read more

I personally do not understand why people give this gym poor ratings. The staff is friendly, if they do not know you they will introduce themselves. The equipment is in very good or excellent condition, the building itself is also in top shape and the smoothie bar has decent variety. Gym is not overcrowded, and has plenty of parking space; unless you are lazy and need to park right next to the door. The free weights and equipment variety is also excellent. All in all, I've had an excellent experience in this gym. Finally, they are military friendly, and stand out from every other gym I've been to. UNPROFESSIONAL AND DANGEROUS!!!! I just left this gym( St. Patty's Day) and someone could have easily been injured. They mentioned over the loud speaker (which isn't very loud) that we had five minutes left before the gym closes. Within 30 seconds, the lights were cut off. I was in the back using the cable machine and my fiancé was doing dead lifts with the free weights using the bar. During the announcement we were finishing up our last sets, when all of a sudden the lights were turned out on us without warning. I cannot believe they would cut the lights off on us, so many people were in the middle of finishing up and could have been seriously injured. It's a good thing no one was hurt, a lawsuit would have been brewing. read more

First off - Yes, it gets busy after work. What do you expect for a gym in the middle of Alpharetta's major office parks? Johns Creek is less busy (but its dark and dirty), go there if you don't believe a gym should ever be busy. The gym floor itself is kept pretty clean. All of the machines are kept in good condition, and the free weight area is usually in good order. It does tend to get busy around 5-530 during the week, but not nearly as bad as some of the other gyms I have been to. This LA has a pool that is rarely ever busy, which is nice if you want to swim some laps. The morning time before work is usually pretty empty all around from machines, to weights, to cardio equipment. The locker room is pretty clean, showers are a little messy, but not appalling. The worst part of the gym is the number of old dudes walking around naked in the locker room. The average age of this gym is definitely up there - not a bunch of the younger crowd, but I guess that should be expected this far OTP. read more

I have been a member here for 11 years, and I primarily use the pool on MWF between 5 and 7 pm, peak hours. A month ago, I learned that they (corporate?) "sold" a lane of the pool between 3 and 7 pm on Monday,Wednesdays and Saturdays to a children's swim class. I was angry because this caused wait times for lanes to increase, plus I was worried about lack of swim diapers and no clear plan if there was an accident in the pool (these swimmers range from age 2 to adult, with many in the 2 to 5 year range). I was also angry because these families did not have to join the gym and could easily use the gym once they were in. I made a complaint to the operations manager and he frankly didn't care. I wrote corporate and they gave me the address of a non-children swim program gym 10 miles away. Yes, inconvenience the long-term membership as opposed to the new program. Today, I learned that this program purchased ANOTHER lane (two of four lanes). My co-worker and I waited 30 minutes for a lane today. And between 6:30 and 7:00, one of the swim instructors used the designated lane for his own swim time. I talked to the General Manager - Sheridan Taylor - and he said that it was corporate's decision, not his, to offer this program and sell swim lanes during peak times and there was nothing he could do. What if this gym blocked off half of the weight machines, free weights, ellipticals, treadmills, basketball court, or racket ball courts during peak time? I bet members would complain! I don't understand why this program isn't offered on week days/weekend mid mornings versus peak usage times. I am going to visit Life Time Fitness and begin the membership process for my spouse and I. And I will let my company know of the apathy I experienced here so they can re-think of partnering with this facility. After 11 years, I guess they don't want our business. read more

LA fitness is horrible for so many reasons. I am just trying to cancel my membership and it feels almost impossible. I called up to the location and they tell me that I can't cancel over the phone and that I must come in. I'm told I can print out the form and mail it in but that usually takes at least a month. So I finally come up to the gym to do it in person and I'm told it can only be done Mon-Fri from 9-6, because I guess they think people don't work and have the freedom to come up there at anytime during the workday to do something as simple as canceling a membership. I am told once again that I can also print out the form and mail it in. How is it this hard to cancel a membership with all the technology and resources out there? Who prints and mails anything these days? I can do my taxes online but cancelling a LA fitness membership takes a specialized skill that can only be done Mon-Fri from 9am to 6pm. I will never ever join another franchise Gyn again if it's this hard just to cancel a membership. read more

La Fitness for the most part is an OK gym. It's nationwide and has most of the equipment that you need. The locker rooms are gonna smell musty and damp. The steam room is not gonna always work and the showers are basically what you would expect to have at a commercial gym. This is not a luxury gym and for your membership fee you get what you pay for. Due to the sheer volume of people coming in and out of the facility it would be impossible to have everything immaculate for all guests to use. I'm ok with that. The front desk staff are polite enough for the most part and can answer most of your questions. The sales staff are also your typical gym sales staff. Pushy, somewhat overbearing, and constantly telling you to join now. Still I'm ok with that. My only gripe with this club is Julian. Julian is a staff member at LA Fitness. I had no idea who Julian was until he decided to workout next to me while he was off the clock. I was going through my routine and doing deadlifts when he strolled up beside me. Immediately he started to ridicule the weight i was lifting and how it was "to light to be slamming" the weights. If he had approached me politely and professionally I think it would've been much different. Instead he basically tried to belittle me and insult me, under his breathe no less. Surprised that a staff member would do something like this, I decided to just ignore him and continue my workout. That obviously didn't work. Then Julian's friend came by and Julian decided that it was appropriate to continue to belittle the weight i was lifting and openly comment on me "slamming" the weights. After a few sets, they left and i was approached by other patrons who were also surprised that a staff member would act so childish. I wish i can say that, that was the end of it. Nope. Julian decided to come back after a few minutes and deadlift behind me to "show him how its done". After a few sets he finally left to go back to his desk. I assume to boast how he really showed me. I've been an LA FItness member for almost 8 years. To be honest LA Fitness is not that bad as long as you know what to expect when you walk in. But no one no matter what, should ever expect someone like Julian working there. Hopefully given the turnover rates of the staff, he won't be around much longer. I'd advise all potential members to come check out the club but temper your expectations and if you get assigned Julian as your sales staff just ask for someone else. Happy sweating! read more

I was in town for a few days and wanted a place to workout and take classes. I received a guest pass from Sheridan (thank you!). The front desk staff members were friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the Zumba and Yoga classes. The teachers (Joyce, Jaqueline, Paola, and Yesso) were great, had a lot of energy and knowledge. I had a fun time in their Zumba classes and came out of Yoga feeling refreshed and recharged. The locker room was clean. read more

I moved to Atlanta about two years ago and people in general have been very nice. It's certainly got that southern charm. I didn't understand why some people say there are a lot of "rednecks" here and I thought they were just being biased. However, I think today I might have experienced my first one. I scheduled a tour with the sales representative William Bryan tonight and everything went smoothly in the beginning. I didn't attempt to negotiate on anything at all and quickly chose their single club membership plan. I was told I could make reservation for racquetball court and I could use my membership for the racquetball service. I was asked to sign on their electric pad before I could read any papers. But in the end, after I was charged, I saw some $5 extra charge per month on the "official" paper. When I asked about that charge, another employee, Mark Ervin jumped in. He said they can't take that $5 off until tomorrow when the operations manager arrived. It turned out this fee was an additional "reservation privilege fee" and without paying it I wouldn't be able to schedule even 30 minutes in advance to reserve a court. That really didn't make sense to me. But what I cared about the most was that they should fully informed before adding charges to my membership. The Mark guy apparently has a short temper. He said you could cancel your membership if you have problem with it. Then I'm like "If that's the case, I'd like to cancel it". Then he started saying "It's unreasonable" while he was doing the cancellation on the computer. He said "People find all the excuses to quit exercising and you found yourself a good one". He definitely has some attitude issue as a sales person. What upset me the most was he started calling me, "ridiculous". I asked him "So far, have I said anything impolite and rude to you? I understand if you say I'm unreasonable because we have different standpoints, but you keep saying I'm 'ridiculous'." He replied "I do think you are ridiculous" and he complained about spending time with me for nothing. In my heart, I think he's the one who's ridiculous here to say things like that to their potential customers. But I still kept it to myself. I said "I've come all the way here and actually already paid to join the club, I spent the same amount of time as you guys. I did want to join. But as a customer, don't I have rights to have all the knowledge that I'm supposed to know? I want to join a club I feel happy with. Now you made me feel uncomfortable. Again, have I said anything rude to you?" Then he's like, "OK, I apologize." He said that in his arrogant tone. But I didn't want to argue with someone like him anymore. I asked him his name and if the store manager will be here sometime. He's like "I'm the general manager here." (Hmmm, interesting, if you are the general manager here, why did I have to wait for someone else to reverse the charge?) Now it's all understandable to me. He must think he's the "big guy" here. Everyone should follow his rules. But I'm sorry, Mark. Not everyone has to follow your rule. Luckily, in a free market economy, I've got choices and I've chosen another path since you may don't care about my business. But with that attitude, I wonder if you would lose more customers or even your friends. Or maybe you don't care. Anyways, that was my short experience with the LA fitness at Windward Pkwy. I hope this story gives you a rough idea how they conduct business there. Well, people still need to exercise and unfortunately there aren't too many choices around. The new personal training director Bryan at LA Fitness has the worst attitude going. He believes he is superior and treats his members like they are 4 year olds. He is condescending and he is 'text book' trained, and could benefit from some social training on how to deal with customers. I was happy when I let him know I will not tolerate being treated like a child and he took himself out of the equation and let me work with my new trainer Marlon directly. Marlon is the COMPLETE opposite of Bryan and I had a really good workout. CLEARLY Marlon knows how to motivate and communicate with people. read more

The club by itself is spacious and well equipped and you will enjoy it if you look past the horrendous attitude of the Alpharetta manager, Sean Bryson. He lacks the ability to provide any sort of cordial customer support. My husband was very keen we joined this LA Fitness ( It was closer than my gym of choice - Ballys) and got me a guest pass. (So called VIP guest pass) So they kept hounding me to come by and activate this VIP guest pass. Eventually Sean called me and pushed me to pick a date to activate my pass. I explained to him that I could not pick a date because of my tentative schedule , but he insisted I pick a date anyway and proceeded to tell me he will call me to remind me again. At that point I told him that it might be easier for me to just come there and get the pass activated (which most clubs often permit) and he said that that I cannot do that, so I told him that in that case I would not require a pass. Few days later I got two marketing texts from his cell number regarding offers to join the club. ( Although I never indicated that it was ok for them to use my mobile number for marketing purposes). Anyway, to cut the long story short, my husband was very keen I still worked out with him so we went to the club to activate my guest pass and Sean was there at the front desk and proceeded to tell us that he was breaking rules to activate my guest pass and that because he is a nice guy he will do this HUGE favor for us. Then the next time we went back he was there again and told me my pass expired( I had used only one day of the 10 day pass and it was the second business day) He made us show him the text message he sent me and activated another pass and asked me to make sure I bring it along next time or I would not be allowed in. We went there again yesterday and I remembered to pull up the guest pass on my phone. I was thrilled to see someone else at the front desk beside Sean who very politely took my phone to check the pass. At that time, Sean GRABBED the phone from the other gentleman and told me that my pass had expired. We pointed out that it expired only on the 13th of September,. He continued to harass us by saying that the person who issued it must have made a mistake . He finally allowed us in when we pointed out that HE was the one who issued us the pass. Filthy, discusting, old equipment. The women's showers are gross- half the drains are clogged up in the showers and I get there at 5am so there's no need for the bathrooms to already be so discusting. The locker room smells awful, the hair dryers are old and hardly work. There is dust and dirt in the locker room and outside. I only come here for Anthony's spin class 3 days a week. I completely agree with "toad's" comment below me- Anthony deserves a major raise because if he were to leave I know many people would drop their memberships immediatly. On the other hand- if you ever have the opportunity to stop in and try Anthony's class- do it! Amazing music, challanging workout, and total motivation to start your day. You do need to get there early because every bike is usually taken and people get turned down because the class is so full (yes, even the 5:45 am class)! read more

Your experience will really vary based on your history with fitness centers and your expectations of the staff. If you are coming from a small facility, this place will blow you away. Lots of space and plenty of equipment. The housekeeping staff does a good job of keeping the place clean (for gym standards). Outside of the evening hours (5-9pm) you'll never have to worry about the place being so crowded that you can't navigate your favorite equipment. There is a large variety of classes, although I don't take them. You get a lot of bang for your buck as they have a pool, basketball court and racquetball courts. On the flip side, their staff is far below industry standards. Most days I walk in and out without much acknowledgement from the person at the desk. Often times the person at the front is wearing street clothes. Last week the young lady had her infant child with her the entire time I was there. The Operations Manager couldn't be much less interested in her job. She has blown me off several times when I've pointed out filthy equipment; a problem that could be alleviated very easily. The personal training staff is in desperate need of improvement. I see two trainers there, on the regular. Both look incredibly bored and disinterested as they lead their clients to the closest available machine. Because of the low trainer payout at LA Fitness, I can see why they aren't focused on their work. Yesterday one of the trainers was sitting at the PT desk reading his phone with his feet propped up on the desk. This was during the middle of the day with dozens of people walking past him. If you are seeking a trainer, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere as LA Fitness is known to hire entry level talent. This is a perfectly suitable gym if you have your own routine and simply need access to a lot of nice equipment. If you are interested in personal training and a warm, inviting atmosphere then you will want to look elsewhere. read more

I was a member of LA Fitness in New York. I recently moved into the area and transferred my membership to the Alpharetta location. When joining in New York I was joining one of the nicest gyms around with top of the line equipment and facility. Sadly when I came to this location I thought I was going to be getting the same quality. This gyms equipment is far from state of the art and looks like that it hasn't been updated within the past 10 years. I have experienced treadmills suddenly just stopping or just plain not working at all. Most of the machines have rust on them and just plain look old. The TV's around the treadmills have signs of a radio frequency to tune into to listen to the TV, but does anyone carry around radios? I was very disappointed in the equipment. This facility is in a need a major upgrade. The staff seems to be friendly and for the most part bathrooms seem to be clean. They just plain need new equipment. read more
