WHAT A FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE. There aren't enough caps lock to show how frustrating it was having to deal with the women at the counter. I want to start off this review by explaining how long my family has been a customer here. This is literally the only place we purchase cakes from in Miami. Birthdays, we come here, special events, we come here. My crazy elaborate birthday cakes for my birthday parties as a child (beach ball cake, extremely detailed octopus cake with all the tentacles, a multi tiered precious moments cake for my first communion) the list literally goes one forever. Oh and my wedding cake (for June aka 3 months from now) is also coming from this bakery. One would think that being a loyal customer for this long someone would make an effort to keep us happy loyal customers. So onward and forward, my bridal shower is next month so OBVIOUSLY we came here. We came Monday and spoke to Jackie (Jacqueline?). She was fine I showed her a picture of the cake I wanted she said okay this is what we can do explained it all to my mother and I. She said a cake like the one we wanted would cost $200. We decided to leave because we wanted to sample the carrot cake before making a decision and they didn't have any that day. Jackie told us if we had any questions to call her or to come back and ask for her. SO, we come back today (Friday). Jackie is nowhere in sight. Yamy begins to help us, we go through all the same things show her the photo, tell her how many people it's for blah blah blah. She's like okay this is what we can do it'll look like this and be this tall. Wonderful. Perfect. Yamy says this cake will cost you $260... UHM EXCUSE ME? HOW CAN THE SAME EXACT CAKE COST ME $60 MORE 5 DAYS LATER. So we inform Yamy that we were here Monday and that we spoke to Jackie and she gave a $200 price tag. Yamy states that's impossible there's no way a cake like the one we want can be $200 she said she would bring it down to $195 if we do it for 30 people instead of 40 people. We tell her no that's not what Jackie told us on Monday it needs to be for 40 people. So Yamy asks us to give her a minute so she can go speak to Jackie who was apparently in the back. Jackie tells Yamy that she obviously didn't give us that information on Monday and that "she told us something completely" different than what we were stating. Jackie said the quote she gave us was for 30 people not 40 (the possibility of lowering the person count was NEVER discussed with Jackie) Jackie refused to come out to speak with us. Yamy tried her best to work with us and brought the price down for us (by $20) because of the whole ordeal. She informed us that Jackie had given us incorrect information regarding pricing and how the cake would be done. Yamy reassured us that she's been with this company a very long time and knew what she was talking about. She was very nice have is suggestions on where to get the flowers that would go on top of the cake and suggested we get 9 of the flowers so that it fits perfectly on the top. You can tell she was very knowledgeable. Yamy was sweet and tried to make sure to work with us the best we could. For this, I thank her for. She's probably the best and most knowledgeable cashier I've dealt with at the bakery in the past year. Although Yamy saved the day, this place seriously needs to get it together. This is not my first issue here. The customer service that I have experienced here is unprofessional and plain old rude. Although Yamy was extremely helpful today my 3 stars remain due to the extreme frustration I had to go through just to order a freaking cake and to everything else that occurred. Get. It. Together. Disappointed at your "Edda's Vanilla Rum Celebration"cake. We bought one yesterday at Milam's Supermarket on Red Rd. This cake was not only dry, but instead of a vanilla-rum flavor, it tasted quite artificial. No rum flavor at all. The icing seemed like it was made with shortening rather than actual buttercream. A piece of icing in the sink, took forever to disolve. For $21.99... I don't think so. Never again. read more

Dear Edda, I have an infatuation with your delicious, sweet, creations. My fiance first introduced me to your cake pops/balls. I think we had 4 each that day! They were so good! My family is in Miami for a surprise 50th birthday for 2 family members. I called Edda's on a Friday to order a cake for the next Wednesday. I explained what kind of cake and then I emailed a photo and our request. I then called again on Friday to verify my email was received, it was verified and I was informed someone would call me for the pricing. I waited and didn't hear again so I called on Saturday. Still no information but was assured someone was going to call me to confirm. No call back and no email so today (Tuesday) I called and was informed it's too late to order for tomorrow as I expected. No explanation as to why they never followed up with me. Now we have NO CAKE for a surprise party. I'm sure the cakes are good (haven't tried them) but with that type of customer service I would never do business with Edda's Custom Cakes. I'm so disappointed! read more

When I called the next day they told me they needed to call another location where the cake was made to verify the cake flavor. They did not call me back so I had to call for an additional two days to get a response from them. They then informed me that the cake they gave me was amaretto and maybe the flavor was "too light". I usually never post negative comments and am typically a very positive and forgiving person, but I feel I really need to for this. I reached out to Edda's to order a cake they had in their pre-made album online with over a month's times till the party. After a week with no response via email, I gave the store a call. They were not friendly or very caring and just assured me I emailed the "main/corporate email" and to re-email the particular store. I understood and re-emailed the particular store. After another week with no response, I followed up with another email. Another 5 days goes by, I proceeded to call the store to follow up (at this point, the party is about a week away). When I called, I was told they never received my first email, and then finally found my follow up email, but again, they were not friendly at all (At this point I'm begging for their business) and this was not a cheap cake by any means. I finally ordered, and confirmed the pick up the day before the party. I asked the associate twice if the cake would be exactly the same as in the picture (as this was a big reason I was getting this over $500 cake). The day I was going to pick up the cake, I called to confirm my pick up.. and they could not find any order by my last name or phone number. They just asked "what does the cake look like..." and finally found it. Once found, they told me... yes, this is for pick-up tomorrow. I immediately told them, no the party is tomorrow, I confirmed the pick up was today. They commented, "oh, someone must have made a mistake..can you come tomorrow?" (very unapologetic/uncaring) I finally agreed as this was my only option. The morning of the party, I called and confirmed it was ready and it was. I headed to the store and when I received the cake, it was not exactly like the cake they showed me. I told them right away, this is not what I ordered, although they assured me they would fix it on site at the moment. The next comment they said to me was "Well we tried to call you a few times to confirm this, but never got through" This blew my mind, as I had reached out/called them NUMEROUS times, and this was a full blown lie. The cake was beautiful and delicious, but I've never had such a horrible experience with a vendor (and I have planned many events personally and professionally). We ordered a cake at the South Miami location for our May 2021 wedding. They were great to work with and had a wonderful experience when we came into the store to do the tasting. The staff is very nice and we had no problems getting the cake delivered to the venue (as I know of!). They called to confirm the number of guests and cake the week of the wedding which was very convenient for me! The cake itself was beautiful and tasted great! I would give it no stars if I could. I ordered a cake & called twice to make sure they got the order correctly. Three employees walking around, & the lobby area had a few of us unattended & waiting. Should've came in person but I placed order over the phone, as one does w a million other services, place it over the phone. Mind you I called twice to confirm cause they sounded aloof on the phone. Then they said there was no decorator there to fix it. Then she messed up & forgot she lied about no decorators there & said they were busy. So you don't have someone on hand for such services? The cake is good, yes, but the customer service sucks. Basically fuck your schedule, they mess up, it's the customer's problem. The only annoyed attempt to fix was after I said I was not taking the cake they said they could fix by 6pm, 6hrs after I needed it. Mind you, an annoyed attempt. It's been getting worse over the years. I only go there cause my mom likes it. Save yourself the time & trouble and go to SWEET ART BY LUCILA. Same cake, look up the history, better service, better price. They were able to have a cake in an hour I was told. Obviously it was a pinch but the fact that they could do it instead of telling me too bad, customer service. Even if they couldn't have, they were very attentive & courteous. Even when they answered the phone. Not upset by having to service a customer. Ruined my son's cake. Unbelievable. Notice they only acknowledge the "good" reviews. Yet all their bad reviews go silent. Go to Edda's to have your money stolen! I got Covid and had to reschedule my wedding. Although they asked for only 50% deposit, I had paid the entire cost of the cake up front. They refused to make my cake for a future date unless I paid again. They claim a 72-hour timeframe to make changes, but that was never told to me, nor was it written anywhere. Besides, I hadn't had Covid that long. And anyway, when I tried to call the prior day, they were closed because of Hurricane Ian. Even with all this, they kept the entire cost of the cake! Have you ever seen a seven-year-old and a two year old reject birthday cake? I have. I brought a mini mouse cake for my daughter's two-year-old birthday. The only thing great about the cake was the design. The cake breading was dry and tasteless and the icing tasted like white paste. I've been buying specialty cakes for my kids for the past seven years. Last year, I tried Katy Love Cakes and bought the same size cake for $100 less and it tasted great! I pick up Edda's cakes every chance I get from Publix. I thought it would be a great idea to have it for my daughter's second birthday. What a mistake and disappointment that was for such a special occasion. For such a ridiculous price, you're not paying for quality, you're just paying for the Edda's name. I tend not to judge cakes by pizazz. I came across Edda's (thanks to my iphone GPS and my GF who is a big fan of their design), yesterday in search of my birthday cake. I walked inside the shop and the lady in the front, who looked at me like if i was an alien, was clearly on her time of the month. I asked her if there was anything that could be ready today and she shows me a page of the most hideous buttercream frosted amateur cakes I have ever seen. Then I inquire about a seemingly yummy mango mousse cake, but it has buttercream frosting all over the sides. me-"Can you make one without cream today? It's my birthday tomorrow." her- "no." We had a horrible and similar experience to a few of the other yelpers here. Had an appointment for our wedding cake tasting we were really looking forward to it and it was beyond a let down. We arrived early and Edda's was not very busy. One of tables had a dirty tray of half eaten cakes. After about 5min or so an employee asked if I had been helped and replied no we were here for our cake tasting. She never asked our name so I guess anyone who wants to try a wedding cake can do so.. Even though we had an appointment.. The only table that was available had a dirty tray and half eaten cakes on it. She came over and cleared the table and then asked if we wanted to try the cake!?! I thought a cake tasting implied just that... She came back out about 10 min later with what looked like the same dirty tray that may or may not have been washed because it looked dirty. We then proceeded to taste the cake on our own and looked at some book about what cakes were available. We were never asked what we were looking for what we liked. It was a horrible experience. The cake was horrible and dry and the butter cream had so much sugar we both got a headache. The woman told us the manger would be out to discuss with us our options but she never came and we were told she was busy.. It was beyond disappointing. Ok, let me start by saying that although the cakes are beautiful, the service I got was very frustrating and disappointing. I ordered a cake with two weeks in advance with very specific instructions as to WHEN and WHAT TIME deliver the cake. I paid in cash to avoid any possible delays with processing the order. The sales person, said that there was NO PROBLEM delivering the cake to Midtown on Thursday no later than 12:00. Mind you, we were having a SURPRISE 10 year anniversary celebration for our bosses at 12:30. Of course the cake had to be there on time. I called the week prior to the event to make sure everything was in order and that the delivery was going to be at that day at that time, the answer was YES. I called the day before of the event on WEDNESDAY, once again to make sure everything was in order and that the delivery was going to be at that day at that time, the answer was YES. The day and time of the event arrived and guess what!? The cake didn't. When I called at 11:45 to check if the driver was lost - because this things happens - I was told that on Thursdays they start delivering cakes at 12:00. EXCUSE ME!? When I paid for the cake I paid for the delivery, Thursday November 17 no later than 12:00. In the order paper it say Thursday November 17 at 9:00 AM. Mind you it was already a VERY expensive cake. If I knew that piece of information I would have gone and picked it up MYSELF! But no. I was charged the delivery and promised by that day at that time. When I complained, the person that picked up the phone, was condescending and told me over and over that they start delivery on Thursdays at 12, like I cared! They said that the owner was going to call me back, and well, I'm still waiting. When I went in person, the same... they were condescending. They gave me the delivery money back, but to be honest, that doesn't erase the bad taste I got out of this experience. I feel that they didn't care about my complain or that the activity was tainted by this. I felt that they cared about the "Big Fish" of orders than this "little" one - for me not so little I paid almost $200.00. Needles to say, I WILL NOT order a cake from this place again. ***Another thing... they are NOT receptive to this kind of feedback. They don't address it instead, delete what the PAID CUSTOMERS have to say! Very nice! read more

Edda, I still love you, but you made my wedding cake the wrong color. Sure, no one noticed...except for me, my husband, and my mom...I'm just glad it still cordinated with our colors. The fontant ribbon around the base of the layers were off white instead of champagne (to match our invitation envelopes). It was a minor thing, and the taste of the cake was fantastic. The design and layout of the layers were also the way I wanted them. If you place an order with them months in advanced, like I did, I'd strongly recommend setting up a meeting the week of your event to go over the order with them again, just to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen. read more

The cake tasted AMAZING! BUT didn't look anything like the picture. The cake was moist and delicious but it wasn't as beautiful as it was supposed to be. For years my family has used Edda's cakes. Like most of the reviews say here they are not the friendliest of bakeries (perhaps all of her success has gone to their head.) With my wedding coming up there was no question that we would go with the family tradition and have Edda make our cake. I called and made an appointment and let my family members and fiancé know ahead of time so everyone could accommodate their schedule. On the day of my appointment they called me 30 minutes before appointment time (when some people were already on their way) to cancel the appointment because they were busy. They delivered it on time to the restaurant and we had absolutely no problems at all. Next time we are in Miami we will definitely go back and visit." He said...."This place was on top of everything. I hate that the cakes are so darn expensive but they're so darn good! The more things or more complicating the design is the more expensive of course. I believe you can get a same day cake for way cheaper but custom I think the cheapest is $120. And it's just a plain ol' design. But the cake taste oh so yummy. It's worth it to me. read more

My husband and I were tasked with tasting the wedding cake and making the decision since both the bride and groom were from out of town. Over the holidays we stopped in and had the couple sample our choice and lucky for us they agreed. The tastings are a bit frenzied and while the website wanted specifics they have standard flavors they bring out we decided on the marble with chocolate fudge filling and a buttercream frosting there were hundreds of designs to choose from and elegant cake stands which truly showcase the cake. read more
