I've lived in Coloma for two years and this was the first time I've eaten at Eddie's Drive In. I had the ribs and they were amazing. The bbq sauce was spot on. Came into Eddies to get some food to go. My hubby got a double meat Eddies classic burger with pepper jack and cheddar cheese and bacon with cheese fries. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, cheese sticks with marinara sauce and a root beer. The decor was adorable. Seriously, the walls are decorated so flipping cute with cartoon characters galor. There were LOTS of tables inside and a few picnic tables outside, providing an abundant of seating options. The food took a bit of time, to the point I was getting antsy but it was worth the wait. My pulled pork was delicious and my hubby devoured his burger so fast, I didnt think eating a 14oz burger that quick was possible. My cheese sticks were basic but good. The sauce definitely took it up a notch. The cheese fries were fairly standard also, although my husband didnt mind. He devoured them faster than his burger. Found this place while traveling thru Labor Day Weekend. Thankful I called ahead as many are closed for holiday. My husband got the olive burger (regional fave) and I got the classic. Fried pickles and onion rings rounded out our order. $20 well spent. The fried pickles were tasty; with dill in the batter, accompanied with ranch for dipping. Burgers were juicy and charred, just right amount of condiments. Would love to visit again and have their ribs -as they are to be the best! read more

The burger was great and the patties were very thick! the chicken tenders and fries weren't very good though. the fries were super soggy. i'm a big fan of soft fries but these were too soft and had no salt at all. the tenders were also similarly soggy. would definitely get a burger again but tenders and fries are a no go from here. read more

On a road trip back home, decided to stop here instead of common fast food spots. Overall I think it was a good choice. Fish sandwich was good size portion. Hamburger was a little charred but flavor was pretty good. We had several orders of fries and they come in a bag which is cute but didn't seem like that many in each bag. I also like the packaging of the sandwich's and burgers. Cute and simple. Now to the best part. Ordered a kids strawberry shake and after tasting it, I knew I had to get my own. Very good shake. Also the girl who took our order was very nice and helpful. The other girl who took other customers orders also seemed friendly. So for the staff, 5 stars for sure. Having positive feelings about a couple of drive ins in the general area (Red's in Paw Paw, Back to the 50's in South Haven), we wanted to check out this drive in situated in Coloma Thursday night, after an afternoon spent at the beach. But this is a drive in like my girl and I are zebras. Maybe once upon a time it was a drive in, but no longer. We saw no one eating in their cars or outside on the picnic tables. There was no one servicing the parking lot. And indeed, once we got inside and were seated, we saw the menu read "Eddie's Diner." And that's exactly what this is. (But the street sign says "Eddie's Drive In," and the restaurant's Facebook site is called "Eddie's Drive In.") We were told that the physical plant in and out has been updated. The interior seemed simply appointed but things looked generally pretty clean, and the bathrooms were spacious and clean. But we were sad to see that the murals of famous old time celebrities like Betty Boop and John Wayne - photos from '14 are on this thread - have been covered up with chocolate milk colored vinyl siding. My girl had the 2 piece fried chicken, which came with fries, cole slaw, and a roll. What arrived in her basket was a drumstick, a thigh, and a wing. The roll was a slider bun halved and grilled. The fries were underdone. My girl thought the chicken was underseasoned. And there was no cole slaw. (But we didn't realize the basket included a cole slaw at first. Later, after the meal, as I was waiting at the register to pay, a couple ahead of me were ordering take out, so I looked at the menu and realized my girl had been shorted her cole slaw. So, as I was paying, I mentioned this to our server. He said, "Do you want me to get it?" I answered, "Please." And he retrieved a single serving plastic container from the kitchen. No apology.) I had the Patty Melt, which came with mushrooms, but no fries. Fries were extra. The fries were underdone as well. The sandwich was okay. The time from placing our food order to getting the food was more than 25 minutes. But we saw upon entering that the restaurant is searching for another cook. A drive in, particularly a good one, is such a rare thing now that we would not hesitate to drive miles and miles to one to get a meal. But we can find diners anywhere and everywhere. read more

Been waiting to write this for a while, now. With my recent order, now seems to be the appropriate time. Food is good, depending on who cooks. Food is usually great don't get me wrong, but you can tell when it's been cooked too long, rushed when put together, and/or when the grill hasn't been cleaned in a while. For example, sandwiches can be dry and messy. Sides can be under cooked and soggy (obviously forgotten about and just tossed out to be served). Seems to happen most when there is a specific chef behind the grill... Being a regular who has spent money (and I mean MONEY) here for years along with bringing in many others that I know in the area, and as one who orders the same thing practically every time I come in... You'd think I'd be shown better service from a chef that has been there WAY longer than long enough! There is a hard working cook behind the grill most days and I'm unsure of his name, but he cooks my order perfectly every time and when the food is cooked right, the quality and flavor of anything on Eddie's menu is phenomenal! We've all been new before, but waitresses can seem a bit unexperienced/nervous in their work. Others can be "nice" I guess to say the least, but are straight up forgetful (never checked on, no refills offered, the usual manners a waitress should have). They get the job done, but again are forgetful and inconsiderate of their tables. There are a couple waitresses I wouldn't mind waiting my table any time! The women who have been at Eddie's for YEARS are good, but those waitresses are also owners of the company and are very skilled and experienced in their position. Regardless, day in and day out, you can see they take pride in their work. Though I DEFINITELY miss the younger, bubblier waitresses who used to work there! Always attentive, always happy to serve you, and made sure orders were presented as should. The remodel is nice and gives the restaurant more of a "restaurant" feel, but the experience just isn't the same without the 50's theme and carhop. Being a Coloma/Berrien County resident for most of my life, and having a few years of restaurant experience under my belt on top of training in business management, it's easy to see there could be improvements in staff. Besides that, Eddie's is one of my favorite places to eat and always has been. Though I'd just recommend calling in the order and picking it up, honestly. The service is quite the let down compared to what Eddie's used to be a few years ago, and I think I speak for most of the residents in Coloma when I say that as you hardly see anybody there anymore. read more

We were the only table in the whole empty restaurant and often wondered if we had been forgotten about throughout our meal. Eddies has always been a favorite stop for us, however recently we were told we would have an hour wait for dining in. I asked why the long wait since there was only one couple in the dinning room. I was told by a waitress that the take-out orders were ahead of us. I expressed that dine-in should take preference. Aside from the lake, Coloma doesn't really have a lot to offer in the way of activities and restaurants. I would know, I've lived here almost my entire life. Eddies has always been kind of a 'go to place'. After unfortunately having to move back to the area, I thought I'd check out somewhere I hadn't gotten a chilli cheese burger from in a few years to change some pace. Only, I found the restaurant had been almost entirely remodeled. And this is quite a positive spin on such a small place! Spoiler alert: This is one of, if not the best restaurants in the coloma/watervliet area. The bathrooms are clean enough to eat in (Not that I tried.) and even smell new to boot! Which is important when you take into consideration, a dirty bathroom means a dirty kitchen! It's not what I'd call a large place inside, it comfortably seats quite a few families sitting down to enjoy a meal. With a large screen TV to boot, they'll even give you the remote if you ask. (But try to keep the other patrons in mind if you take control, try to turn on a family program everyone can enjoy.) Though, my only complaint is a lack of closed captioning when it gets a bit loud from other people talking. If you don't mind it being busy, head out for dinner time. If you like a more quiet atmosphere in a diner like this, get in shortly after the lunch rush, and before the dinner rush. There's typically only about 2-3 other families there. Now, down to what /really/ matters. Service and food. The Service both times i've gone since my return were surprisingly amazing actually. The waitresses were very, very friendly, helpful, and even pulled my chair out so I didn't have to. Very frequently checking if I needed anything as well. This is very appreciated and I have nothing negative to say about the staff. Even going as far as to engage in friendly conversation with you in general. I'm usually left unimpressed by the wait staff wherever I go. But this was a surprisingly pleasant experience. The food itself? Well, since they claim to have the best ribs how about we review that, I also ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer. The pickles, were far too hot to eat at first, at least temperature wise anyway, (Which is good, means they were freshly fried.) they're not spicy in the least, which don't get me wrong. I prefer that they're not. The breading on them is actually quite good, I chose to use ranch as my side dip, but I've been told there's better sauces to dip them in. For the potato of choice with my ribs, I chose the tater tots. Which was actually a really nice choice. They're crispy, and you can tell they were very freshly fried, as opposed to just tossed in an oven. Now for the meat of the topic. The Ribs. Eddies claims they have the best ribs in the world. They're perfectly tender, seasoned, and even have a really delicious BBQ sauce slathered all over them. Seriously. These ribs are hard to beat, I have nothing negative to say about them at all. Had breakfast this morning and had the most miserable experience. The service was nothing shy of horrendous. The level of noise was comparable to a jet taking off. I'm surprised that they have any plates left after listening to staff clean off the tables. The pancakes were as dry as the desert on a late August day. It would of been easier to fit a camel thru the eye of a needle than getting a second cup of coffee. This place is fairly small inside. We had 5 people in our party. We arrived at about 615pm to grab something that we thought would be reasonably quick. It wasn't. I'll cut to the chase here. Positives: They apparently had a fucntioning ice maker Negatives: The burgers had been cooked beyond burnt. What cook sends this garbage out? They should be ashamed. Four burgers ordered; four hockey pucks. Seriously, You're a drive-in. Burgers should be automatic for you. You failed miserably Over 25 minutes to get food after you order it. I would have been more understanding had the place been busy. It wasnt. Bottom line: Don't bother with this place, it's garbage. Well, unless you have over an hour to kill and like bone dry, burnt hamburgers. If I could somehow get my time and money back from this place I would. I would also tell the owner to just close up now. Don't bother going on. I, nor anyone else in the party, will EVER be back to this craphole. I wish I could give zero stars. We've been staying in the Coloma area all week hanging out around the lake. This is the best food around. The desserts are homemade. The kids meals come with milk shakes and candy! My kids loved it. The ribs were incredible. Just an all around great restaurant with fabulous service. read more
