Each inn we had…read morechosen throughout Vermont was VERY tastefully appointed, and while our rooms were all quite differently decorated, they were each beautiful, not to mention, CLEAN, no matter where we stayed!! However, here at Four Chimneys Inn, we loved it so much, we asked if we could stay another night, and they said YES ! Our first night was spent in a red and yellow decorated room, which was very spacious and comfortable. The bed and pillows were super comfy ! It was room #11 and on the first floor. Our second night was spent next door in #10, and those colors were creams, blues and muted gray. For some reason, my camera picked up mostly the gray and left very little color to view, which is weird, because there was a lot of blue, which I actually preferred to the red and yellow room. The room was perhaps a bit smaller, but it was still VERY spacious and more than enough room for the 2 of us. Again, the bed and pillows were super comfy. I think I liked this second room more, if nothing else, than because of the colors. Blues, grays and creams just spoke to me more than reds and yellows. I felt more at home, I guess. Both rooms had fireplaces, but in disgusting 90+ degree heat/humidity, no thank you. On the first night of our stay, the inn's restaurant was closed, but when we unexpectedly extended our stay by one night, that also opened the possibility of dining in-house, which thrilled our tired bodies like you wouldn't believe. We didn't feel like doing anymore driving, so we stayed put and ended up having an elegant dinner at Four Chimneys Inn. Breakfast the next morning was included with the price of each night's stay, but we only availed ourselves to breakfast after our second night's stay. (See separate review for the restaurant.) The inn staff was incredibly kind and friendly, not to mention, helpful. If ever we get to return to Bennington, Vermont, there is NO DOUBT that we'd find our way back to staying at the Four Chimneys Inn. Everything about this place is inviting, friendly, comfortable, quaint and charming.

Donna gave us dinner recommendations and would include printed directions to the restaurants. She is so knowledgeable about all there is to do in the area. Clifford was so kind and accommodating as well. We arrived on motorcycle and he insisted on us keeping it in his garage. He also offered us his rain gear upon our departure because it was drizzling. He even followed up with us after to make sure we had arrived home safely. So in short. Beautiful accommodations. Great views. Amazing breakfast. Kind and helpful hosts. Lesa welcomed us when we arrived after dinner and made us feel at home with homemade baked goods and wine. Our rooms were lovely, and although the manor is two hundred years old, it has all the amenities one would expect in modern accommodations. The beds are extremely comfortable as well. Breakfast was a treat, a feast of local yogurt, homemade scones, tea cake, frittata, fruit, and ham. Lesa is the perfect host--warm, welcoming, accommodating, talented in the kitchen, and genuinely concerned with providing her guests with a wonderful getaway. Staying in her lovely home feels like visiting a friend. We will return whenever we are in the area. The Blackinton is a gem!!

If I believed any place I was reviewing was terrible I would never say it was awesome, so just because I know the innkeeper doesn't mean I'm sugarcoating my experience. I wanted to share that I think the Blackinton Manor is a lovely place to stay in the Berkshires. The hostess really cares about her guests' full experience. She strives to use locally sourced products whenever she can. She wants everyone to feel like they are comfortable and at home in her home, and I definitely felt comfortable here. And she makes yummy and hearty breakfasts. If you're lucky enough to be served the sticky buns, you're in for a real treat. Stay here. You won't regret it. Things to note: She does have a dog, who while friendly and gentle, is still a dog and will be at the Manor while you're there. So if you're not a dog person, this might not be the place for you. Also, if you have food allergies or restrictions, be sure to disclose them. She'll ask when you arrive but it's nice to let her know in advance so she can prepare for your stay and make your meal as yummy and accommodating as possible.

There is also a bar area where you can purchase any number of craft cocktails, which are expertly made. We stayed in the Wilmington room, which is one of the few rooms with a King bed. The room was beautifully furnished, with a nice high bed, armoire, and television. The bathroom has a beautiful jacuzzi tub and shower. The linens were fresh and comfortable. Where the owners truly shined was with hosting the event. We truly felt special during the weekend. Every evening a fire was made in the fire pit out front. The breakfast each morning was delicious. And the main common room was cleared of furniture in one day to accommodate the wedding tables. Everything looked fabulous and made for an incredible wedding. I just don't like the lack of privacy or the set time to eat or the forced conversation. When I'm traveling I prefer to chill. But this B&B has several things that set is apart and make me like it- a very casual atmosphere- a pretty location- a wonderful proprietor and policies that are different than most B&Bs. First off- there is no set time for breakfast. You can wander down when you like. Second- the lady who runs the place has come up with a brilliant plan- she sets a steaming hot pot of coffee outside your door in the morning so that you can drink your coffee in peace (and privately) before venturing down to the main room. So simple but I've never seen another B&B do that. There really isn't much in Salem NY so you'll only stop here if you happen to be in the area. But if you do and you have B&B phobia as I do you can safely book here. I just remembered the name of the lady who runs it- Laura. She's really nice.
