Traveling overnight, my wife pointed us toward Sturges Speakeasy after seeing the great reviews,…read moreand she absolutely nailed it. This place was fantastic, the kind of spot you're genuinely glad you stumbled into. The atmosphere had that perfect mix of cool and comfortable. I grabbed a beer, Stacy's Mom, and I'd order it again without thinking twice. My wife went for the Self‑Loathing Burger, which lived up to the hype. My daughter ordered the Mother‑Clucker (pictured), and after she gave me a bite, I immediately regretted not getting my own. I ended up with the Pittsburgher (also pictured), and it was outstanding, one of those sandwiches you keep thinking about afterward. Between the vibe and the food, it honestly felt like a little slice of heaven. Highly recommend stopping in for dinner.

The ambience didn't seem much like a speakeasy. It was more like a regular bar/restaurant. For lunch, I requested fish tacos and sweet potato fries. As an appetizer, we shared some nachos, which had a very tasty cheese sauce on them. A while later, the food was delivered. Everyone enjoyed their meals. My fish tacos each had a large piece of fish in them. The fish was seasoned and cooked perfectly, was flaky, and delicious. My sweet potato fries were a little overcooked, but still pretty good. Highly recommend that dish. My daughter's soup of the day (chicken & rice) missed the mark. But her club sandwich was the size of her head! If we're in Harrisburg, we'll visit again. Great meal!

Some friends and I hit up Mixx last night for their Tuesday karaoke (Wonderland…read moreKaraoke--excellent!) and had a wonderful time. I like the atmosphere of this bar a lot, and those huge comfortable chairs are fit for kings and queens. They have a good beer and liquor selection. A lot of the bars in the Wind Creek outlet have fancy beers, and that's fine, but I love it when I can go to WC and just get a Miller Lite, like I did last night at Mixx. The bartender, Cindy, was very cool and kept the drinks coming. If only all bartenders I encounter were so friendly and efficient! I hope she is there the next time we are at Mixx. They do not offer food here, but you can easily pop over to Bethlehem Barrel and Drafthouse, down the hall, and bring your food back with you. Or one of the other options in the WC outlet; I just mention Barrel because of their incredible pretzel bites. This is a great place for a relatively quiet evening with friends or a date. Or, if you're staying at the hotel, it is definitely better than what generally passes for a hotel bar.

There are some TVs, tables and cozy chairs. A band was setting up while we were there as well. Justin made great drinks but there is no food at Mixx. He was able to give us some chips and snack mix, but some wings would have been great. The TVs didn't have all the sports channels either, so we watched random sports highlights & news (buzzkill). We relaxed and chatted with others at the bar before leaving for the casino. We would definitely have another drink at Mixx in the future.

But on top of that its also one of those you never really know what you're going to get kind of places until you actually set out to find out. In my experience with RUBA hall I've known it as the place for the perfect potluck (which would have been even better if more of the people who said they were going to show up with food actually did. Just saying!), a concert hall that featured 3-4 awesome acts, a place that housed the ultimate karaoke party, and a spot known for its cabarets (that I still need to make it down too!). When it comes down to it RUBA is a place that is generally open to letting its members paint a blank canvas for its events. And since it predominately likes to center itself on the performing arts that can be a very beautiful thing! Another awesome thing is how little it can cost to get such a coveted membership and throw an event. The membership rate for such a cool event hall and after hours club is $20 a year. And putting on events goes for around $300 which is practically nothing if you can pull off something fun and exciting. So when it comes down to it RUBA is solid gold!
