The building is constructed entirely of rock salt (yes, you can lick the building if you wish) and inside is a small museum that contains salt mining memorabilia and photographs as well as film of the Morton Salt mining operations. You get a free salt crystal as a take away and I bought a fridge magnet for my collection. I spent about 20-30 minutes here, enjoying the memorabilia, learning about salt and salt mining and chatting with a wonderful woman who clearly has a passion about Morton Salt and Grand Saline. I'm super happy that this quirky little spot landed as my 16000th review. If you are driving along I-20 east of Dallas/Fort Worth, this treasure is a 12 mile detour that will take you about 20 minutes out of your way. It's totally worth it. The museum is very well presented and well kept. The artifacts on display are simply amazing! You get to walk through the hall of presidents, and then view Americas history through the cost of war. Starting with revolutionary war and the build up to it through the Afghanistan conflict. There is more to see and read than can be taken in in one visit. We spent several hours in there, and even as a bit of a history buff myself, I walked away with some new information. Highly recommended for those who have in interest in what it has cost to create, expand, and defend the principles that America offers! Well done team! Thank you, Morris'

The interior of the building is kinda bare, not a lot of glass containers of animals, and the ones they have are typically reptiles and or spiders. I don't know if there were more walking trails, but i didn't see too many trails. I walked by the one where there is a creek running through. They also have different exhibits going on. I think they had in insect where they teach kids all about them.

They have a room with a few interactive games that my kids liked. For my 2 kids and I it was $11 to go in that room. Honestly it wasn't really necessary, and we wouldn't have missed out if we didn't go in there. But I didn't mind since everything else was free. We only stayed for about an hour. It was nice to just enjoy the outdoors. There weren't any animals outdoors to view. But it was still super pleasant. I would say skip the special room unless you want to just donate to the center.

The exhibits and collections are not as extensive as major city museums. But the exhibits were informative and nicely presented. There was also a gallery devoted to the history of Baylor University, very interesting. Also there was a small model village located on green space behind the museum, very cool. As a National Park enthusiast, I was really excited to learn this site wasn't too far from my…read morefriend's house and so I was ecstatic to visit Waco Mammoth National Monument while in Texas. I'm also glad I happened to bring my National Park passport (you just never know!) Anyway, Waco Mammoth is definitely one of the more unusual units of the National Park System I've visited but also worth the visit!!! The history behind the site is fascinating. After two men discovered bones in 1978, researchers from Baylor University and other institutions began excavating the area and quickly realized they had uncovered something incredible! More and more fossils were found and in 2015 my guy President Obama established the site as an official unit of the National Park System. Though, one thing visitors should know ahead of time is that even though this is a National Park Service site, our America the Beautiful passes do NOT work here. General entry to the park grounds is free, but there is a separate fee to enter the dig shelter because it is operated in partnership with the City of Waco to help support preservation efforts. The actual dig shelter is absolutely the highlight of the experience, though you'll need to join a guided tour led by a docent. Hopefully you end up with one who is especially knowledgeable and enthusiastic because that really makes the experience come alive. I loved seeing the nation's first and only recorded evidence of a nursery herd of Colombian Mammoths from the Ice Age! So neat. At least 19 mammoths were discovered and the jury (err, scientists) are still out on how exactly these mammoths came to be trapped at this site/the reasoning for their passing. Anyway, this is a fascinating stop and absolutely worth visiting if you're in the Waco area, especially if you enjoy history, science, paleontology, or just visiting National Park units. It's not a full-day destination by any means, but it's definitely educational, memorable, and offers something very different from the typical national park experience!

Due to the festival, the parking is kind of full. The entrance for the historic house is free. Donation is encouraged. This two storey house is colonial style. It turn Smith County. The house was build 1859. Overall the house visit only need 1/2 hour. We took one hour. There are some welcome clerk dress in old colonial time. At this visit, I learn different styles of stitching for the quilt. It is very colorful. The best spot for the picture is at the front with the columns. The other spot is the curve wood rail stair case.

Definitely spent hours in here, as there are so many levels, room, activities, etc. Really loved the activities that were super engaging, both for kids and adults. The spots area on the bottom ground floor was super fun and not crowded at all. The price is well worth the visit! perfect place for families, and even just adults (i saw some adult friend groups who were visiting and they looked like they were having so much fun!) Parking is across the street under the highway. it's $15, which is not the best but at least it's a short walk. It was pretty easy finding a spot too.

We started at the near the top floor, by seeing the dinosaur skeletons and learning about fossils. And then we went to the bird area. My kids liked getting to go to the different kiosks to make their dream bird, as well as the bird flight simulator. I very much enjoyed the gem and minerals hall. Every 80s kid had a rock collection when they were growing up -- right??? Well, if you're part of that group, this area is for you. I loved seeing the different gems as well as the giant amethyst geode. This museum has a lot to explore. A lot of it is reading and screen based, though there were enough interactive exhibits mixed in to keep my kids entertained and learning. We would definitely come back!
