Best cupcakes in Raleigh! My friend was here from DC and we went on a cupcake comparison mission. Compared Edible Art, Sugarland, Gigis, and The Cupcake Shoppe. Edible Art won hands down, completely outclassed the other cupcakes. They just tasted like quality, clearly superior to the others, though each place did have something good about it. I've never bought a whole cake at Ed Art, but love to get a slice as a special treat. They are pricey, but their cakes are beautiful, you really won't find anything fancier in Raleigh. Super nice people, nice place to go treat yourself and hang out with a friend. read more

I am writing this review based on my cupcake experience. I recently visited and had cupcakes at D.C. Cupcakes and Sprinkles, the originator of cupcake bakeries. Without a doubt Edible Art has the best cupcakes of any bakery. They are fresh, moist and creative. The Hummingbird is my favorite and no one else even comes close. 1/2 off Tuesdays. I asked the young lady if the cupcakes were 1/2 off for Tuesday. She simply replied yes. I ordered 3 cupcakes and a slice of cake. Paid for them, wasn't paying attention to the total. When I left, my grandson had to use the restroom, so I returned for him to use it and decided to purchase 3 more cupcakes for co-workers. I noticed my total didn't reflect the 1/2 off. I asked her again if they were 1/2 off. She then advised that it's only for the first 2 items. So, the first order, she took 1/2 off of the cupcakes and I paid regular price for the cake (Which is more) & 3rd cupcake. When I asked her the first time about 1/2 off, she should have advised then it was only for 2 per customer per day. The other person in my party could have bought the other 2. I don't ever recall it being a limit of 2. I didn't see a sign up in the store that states that either. From her YES answer to me it meant 1/2 off of all not just 2. The treats are okay (Not a must have, a little dry) but I don't know if I'll be returning any time soon. I do not care to spend my money where the employees do not advised or educate the customers on non-posted policies that pertain to my purchase. She was friendly but not very informative. read more

The people are so kind and so sweet! The girls who work at the front counter never fail to put a smile on my face! Not to mention how delicious the cake is! I always order a slice of the lemon! I've never had a bad experience with any of the people and the decorators do a fabulous job on any of the cakes I've ever ordered! The owner is amazing and whenever there's a problem, he handles it so well! Even when I've witnessed a situation where one of the customer service people has to deal with a difficult customer, they handle it in such a mature and stress free way! I wish that I could give ZERO stars for rating as this is exactly what is deserved. Stay Away from EA! My experience with EA was a total disappointment! I agree with Mel W. I've seen their work and heard nothing but rave reviews about EA, but it's nothing more than just that. The cake was extremely heavy (I'm sure they used about two dozen eggs in this one - and it was only an 8" round cake), it was dry/wet (meaning dry tasting but wet as in not really cooked throughout), super sweet icing, and just not very pretty (in my opinion) when compared to some of their other work. Yes, they make a beautiful "package cake" and gorgeous wedding cakes, but ask for anything else and you'll regret it. I surely did. Oh, and did I mention that the customer service absolutely SUCKED! With the exception of one employee (Sandra), everyone else in the building acted as if they had a stick up their behinds. They were not very friendly nor very helpful with ideas - I was working with them via email/phone to get this done as I was out of town but needing the cake done in Raleigh for a graduation celebration that was being held there. There was virtually no feedback from them on possible ideas and the employee on the phone (not Sandra - as she is the only one who had the patience to try to explain anything to me when I called back for a second time) did not have any interest in helping me out at all. Being that the name of the business is Edible ART, I assumed that they would take some ARTistic initiative to steer me along or at least send me a layout of the hand drawn design (being that I paid an extra $45 for them to to this). Total price of 8" cake - $99; price of time and monies spent dealing with this business - $40; look on my son's face when he celebrated his graduation (even with a CRAPPY looking nasty tasting cake) - PRICELESS!!!! read more

I purchased my wedding cake from Edible Art. They talked a good game; however, on the day of my wedding the cake flavors were wrong, and the cake had no fillings, the decorations were descent. Hardly any of the cake was eaten, due to the lack of fillings, and the cake layers being the wrong flavors. We now have an entire cake sitting in my freezer. The worst part was I had told all of our guests how excited I was about the cake and all of the details we had picked our with specific fillings for each flavor. They even called me on the day of the wedding because they lost my cake topper. All of the details of the cake are written on one sheet of paper. One sheet of paper that is very simple and easy to read and is dummy proof, a sheet of paper that wasn't followed at all correctly. How hard is it to follow directions on one sheet of paper? Apparently, for Edible Art, that is impossible. We later heard from a co-worker, his girlfriend used to work there and said it was the most unorganized place she had ever worked and they consistently book more cakes than they can handle. Very disappointed. I read the reviews before I booked my cake and I only wish I would have listened to the bad ones. Please ladies, carefully consider choosing Edible Art for your wedding day. They ruined our wedding and instead of apologizing, the manager lady was rude and acted as if she could care less since she already had my $400. We also couldn't get our money back. They made the cake totally the wrong color and the craftsmanship was terrible. There was even finger prints in the cake! Save yourself the heart ache and anger and go somewhere else. read more

I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years. I purchased a cake this past weekend that was inedible. It was so dry and such a disappointment. I called to express my concerns with the lack of flavor and the dry cake and I received the WORST customer service EVER. I was speaking to the owner, Todd, and he was so incredibly rude and short with me. He did not care at all that I spent that much on a cake for a special occasion surprise birthday party. What was even worse then wasting $80 on a cake is the fact that the OWNER of this bakery was SUCH a jerk to me on the phone. He never apologized or seemed to care at all. I will never purchase another cake from this bakery as I do not want to support such a rude and disrespectful business owner. I recently ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday. She had eaten Edible Art cake in the past when working with Raleigh Little Theatre (Edible Art makes their "show cakes") and had raved about it. I now see why! I ordered a square cake with a vanilla pound cake base (my daughter's favorite) and vanilla buttercream. It was beautifully decorated with pink and purple swirls, wonderfully moist, and absolutely delicious! Todd was very helpful when I placed my phone order and reviewed various options with me. One word-awful! I had bought a few cakes from here for friends but was never able to stay and cut the cake. They were always GORGEOUS, but the first time I was able to try one...YUCK! It was so heavy the inside was not even cooked all the way. I called and emailed thinking maybe I got a bad one. I never received a call or email back. Since then I have talked to others who say the same thing about their cakes. Great if you want to pay a minimum of $50 for a small table decoration, otherwise I would recommend the Blue Moon bakery. read more

Disappointed. I ordered a cake on 7-September for a celebration on the 15th at the beach. Then came Hurricane Florence. On Monday, 9/10, I called to discuss their cancellation policy. I had to cancel that day to get a 75% refund, any later and I would not get anything refunded. I explained the situation and that I was hoping the hurricane might veer and asked if they would give me until the next day to cancel. But the manager refused. I wasn't even trying to negotiate the 25% fee, just wanting another 24hrs to determine whether I had to cancel our event to not be charged the entire 100%. I was disappointed by their lack of flexibility. I'd understand if I'd ordered a large cake that required them to start baking days in advance - but this was a 10" cake that was literally ordered 3 days before. The celebration has been rescheduled to spring 2019 - needless to say, I'll be ordering my cake elsewhere. read more

Edible Art's cakes are beautifully decorated and taste great! (The cakes are on the thicker side, similar to that of a pound cake, so if you are looking for that fluffy "birthday cake" taste, they are not for you). They also sell individual slices, cupcakes, pies, cheesecakes and cookies. All in all, I would rate them with 5 stars, but the cakes are pretty expensive, although you get what you pay for. read more

It honestly pains me to write this review, because I had high hopes for this bakery but they completely and utterly failed.I began planning out a military themed cake 6 weeks in advance. I corresponded with Edible Art, and showed several pictures of what I wanted. Five weeks prior to needing the cake completed, I stopped by, went over my request one last time and placed the order. The original order was under $100 (it was $95), in which case Edible Art does not require you to pay half because it isn't over $100. Moreover, I still paid half to reiterate my seriousness and appreciation for them taking on the small task of an 8 inch round military cake for a very important person & occasion. The pick up day arrived last Thursday, March 30 and I was so excited to see the cake however I had a feeling I should ask for photos prior to picking it up in case something was incorrect- therefore I went with my gut instinct, and boy am I glad I did. I called, requested photos, and shortly after received an email. I opened the e-mail and was shocked at the poor quality and what appeared to be a cake thrown together last minute. This disappointment came about due to the photos on the website, showing the ability and talent Edible Art chooses to instill in some and not all of their orders. Specifically, the huge fondant flag had 5 stripes, which looked identical to fruit roll ups. It was awful looking. Furthermore, the camouflage border was hideous. It looked like M&M's stuck around the bottom. The cursive hand writing was not professional looking, and lastly, the cake was not even centered on the cake board. I returned to Edible Art's website, because I was honestly flabbergasted at the quality, well lack of, in my cake and KNEW for certain I had seen beautiful work on their website inclusive of an American flag I distinctly remember being exactly what I wanted. My disappointed was conveyed, civilly, via email to the two young girls who work at the bakery. I was not rude, demanding, or curt, because I knew they were not the cake decorator and it wasn't fair to them for me to lash out. I begin asking for the modifications to be made. I was at work, unable to call so I asked my mother to call on my behalf and emailed them to let them know she would convey my concerns. The modifications were made to the flag, which was one of my largest concerns but I was then told it was too late to fix the "camo" border, and was also told the girl would be leaving soon which to me, was very unprofessional considering it was apparent customer satisfaction had not been received on this order and "leaving" meant she could care less. Furthermore, we requested the Army symbol be added because the cake was so odd looking and thrown together. Then, whomever was responding on the email had the audacity to tell me it would cost an additional $15 to add the image. The image was not even fully on the cake, it looked like a faded imagine printed on a piece of paper just stuck to the side. First and foremost, Edible Art, learn the importance of customer satisfaction. Instead of charging extra, to now make this a nearly $115 cake, your bakery should have sought out to remedy the situation they created. I emphasized the importance of fulfilling my request 100%, and what I in turn received was what appeared to be a product of a beginner in fondant and cake decorating. To add insult to injury, the cake tasted horrible. It was dry, and was not enjoyed by any of the guests. You can imagine how mortified I was at this point with the experience I had with Edible Art. Additionally, it appears you all have had several complaints & issues in recent months which should be alarming to all parties involved. My order could have easily turned into repeat business, a future wedding cake, birthday cakes, etc. However, instead I would like to express my dissatisfaction and warn future buyers of this bakery. Perhaps had my order been more expensive, it would have been taken seriously. Nevertheless, Caveat Emptor. read more

My first visit was 5-star (lavender cupcake was awesome)! Second visit not so much; I recently went back for a special treat and upon entering, no greeting. The girl was helping one lady and there was a father - daughter combo seated enjoying their cupcake. As was I looking over the menu a few more people came in and were greeted immediately while the girl was still helping the initial customer. Afterwards the girl asked what I wanted and I ordered a chocolate truffle & hazelnut cupcake. I asked the girl what cake slice flavors there were while pointing to the ones she had on the back counter. She replied 'they're all on the menu' & proceeded to ring my order up. After her huffing while I briefly looked for change she didn't dare to say thank you or have a good day. Besides the absence of decent customer service the cupcakes were distasteful. * our cake was "exceptional" & the service was great !! an almond cake with amiretto filling,12 inch-square, for a special guy friend. we asked that it look like a wrapped present w/ a huge red bow, & it did. yes, the almond cake was a bit heavy. however, thats "why" you order a "premium" pound-like cake. everyone in our store was impressed. several of the employees admitted this is the "only" place they buy special cakes. my daughter purchased her wedding cake elsewhere, because of the negative reviews. i now know that was a mistake. we will continue to buy delicious & custom cakes at this bakery in raleigh, nc., even though it is a 2 hour drive from our home, each way. read more

I ordered a custom cake for my son's high school graduation. I gave very specific details of what I wanted & even showed the girl behind the counter a picture of what I expected it to look like. The cake was to be a real life replica of a Marching Snare Drum, what I got was a toy snare drum you'd find hanging on a Christmas tree as an ornament.....considering I paid $130 you'd think they'd take the time to at least Google what a Marching Snare looks like. They did not use fondant......butter creme icing was used. The cake had been sitting out on a shelf exposed to the air & was already dried out. It was suppose to serve at least 30 people but it was so small i'd be lucky to serve 20. The cake looked as if it had been slapped together last minute as if maybe they'd forgot to make it.......I have complete confidence I could do much better than they did. I was told my money would be refunded but 5 days later still no refund. This company should be ashamed of this cake. So instead of having an Art Edible cake for my son's graduation I had an over priced piece of garbage. I ended up ordering another cake from Lowe's Foods that was fabulous to look at & delicious to eat..........and it was only $32 & served over 50 people. I would NOT recommend this company for any important event. We never ate the cake from Edible Art.....it went in the trash can ....as bad as it looked I wouldn't dare want anyone to eat it.
