Everything was great at first. Prompt, thorough communication (all via email), order was ready at the necessary pickup time, packaged neatly and seemingly no issues. Wasn't until after serving we discovered the requested fillings of the cupcakes were wrong. I emailed the bakery to inform them of the mishap and inquire about a way to reconcile the incorrect order after the fact - email exchange attached. Unless they managed to sneak into my house and bite into the cupcakes I'm not sure how they could confirm they didn't mess up, so I called thinking a phone conversation would get us to a quicker solution. The person I spoke with said that this was not the kind of mistake they would make and that I would need to bring the cupcakes in to prove I'm not making it up. I explained the party took place near their bakery but I do not live or work nearby so it would be very hard to make it to their shop before close at 6. So I didn't make it and at this point it's just not worth the hassle/inconvenience to drive all the way to their shop to cut into a cupcake. I mean really, have a day off. So, if you want to order cupcakes from them with a strawberry mousse filling and you have one and it's just plain cream, be prepared for them to imply that you have no taste buds or eyeballs. Excellent! I've been twice now and always had a great experience there. I really love this quaint sweet little bakery. Last year I ordered a dozen cupcakes for my best friend's birthday. We had strawberry lemonade and I believe the other half was a special margarita flavor. Strawberry Lemonade was made with lemon cake infused with strawberry syrup and topped with vanilla buttercream and a candied lemon wedge. They were DEE-liciUS!!!! They were huge, moist, and not overly sweet. Because of the size, we cut them in half and shared them and my friend had leftovers to enjoy later. They have deals online, particularly with Groupon, so a few months ago, I ordered a dozen for a friend's surprise going away party. They're really easy to order online. I loved that Edible Art, again, let me order half dozen one flavor and a half dozen in another flavor. We had a half dozen of their classic Vanilla Pearl: Delicious vanilla cake with real vanilla buttercream, garnished with sparkles and edible pearls! Then we also had a half dozen of Chocolate Salted Caramel: Moist chocolate cake infused with homemade caramel and iced with a real chocolate buttercream and butterscotch chips. See attached picture. I absolutely LOVE Edible Art Bakery! The first time I used them was back in 2014, before they moved to North Hills. I ordered a cake for a bridal shower and I wanted the cake to match the invitations. They matched it perfectly!! It was black and chalkboard looking with rain drops. I wish I still had the pictures but it was perfect! Everyone loved the cake at the bridal shower. The cake was really thick and moist and the almond flavor was excellent. Fast forward to today, and I am using them again for another bridal shower. I did the same thing with matching the cake with the invitation! And again, SO PERFECT! I have the pictures for tis one. The flavor is almond amaretto and it's delicious. When picking up the cake a couple of other customers raved about how well it looked. I've also tried their cupcakes and pies. While Edible Art's creations are GORGEOUS, I have to give them 3 stars due to only the A-OK taste and prices. During a walk around North Hills we decided to step into Edible Art for an afternoon sweet treat. I ordered the Chocolate Salted Caramel cupcake and my boyfriend got the Fresh Apple Spice cupcake. All the cupcakes are beautiful and they all looked very tempting. Honestly, I was a little disappointed with the taste since the presentation was just so fabulous and the taste didn't match it. The pretzels on the top of the icing for the Chocolate Salted Caramel were either a little stale or they had been sitting in the icing for so long that the pretzels soaked up the moisture. It just didn't help the flavor of the cupcake for me. The best part of my cupcake was the center of the cake where it was filled with more caramel. Also, the cake to icing ratio was just too much in favor of the icing for my liking, but if you are more of an icing lover then this might be a good cupcake place for you. One thing that I did really like about Edible Art was the to-go containers for the cupcakes. Basically it is a container made specifically for cupcakes, where the cupcake is not going to move around and your icing won't get ruined by the container. So this is great if you are looking to bring a surprise treat home for someone! As for the cost, I do feel like it was a little overpriced as the cupcakes were $4 each. While they were large cupcakes, I'm just not sure that it tasted like $4 to me. Overall, I think I prefer other bakeries such as Sugarland and the Cupcake Shoppe. The only caveat is the price. I paid prices like this in Chicago for cupcakes but I think for Raleigh these are a bit pricey. I'll rank their cake & cupcakes with the best of the best. And their flavors add to the mix. Their red velvet is so moist & I love that they do an American buttercream instead of cream cheese icing on the red velvet. We used Edible Art to buy an engagement party cake for a friend of mine a few weeks ago. The cake was absolutely AMAZING looking. The bakery really does create "edible art" that beautiful to look at, almost to a point that you don't want to eat it. They are typically very popular as far as cake baking so if you know you want a cake from them for your wedding or special event it's best to try and place your order earlier rather than later. We've run into a few situations where they haven't been able to take our cake order because they already had so many for a particular day. In addition to being a cake bakery they are also a dessert café serving a variety of dessert cakes, cheesecakes, cookies and pies as well as some coffee and espresso drink options. My only complaint about that part of their business is that it closes at 6, it would be a great place to go for an after dinner treat on the weekends if only it were open later! read more

My goddaughter was coming in town to visit me for her birthday so I set up some surprises for her. We were going to get manicures and I pre-ordered and prepaid for 1 cupcake to be delivered to the nail salon, which is right next door, from Edible Art. Sad to say, the cupcake never showed up. Days prior, I called the bakery and sent an email as no one answered the phone. I received an email right back from Todd who apologized for missing the call and let me know that they were unusually busy that day. He let me know that the cupcake delivery would be no problem and that I could call back to make payment (I waited until the following day because he had just mentioned that they were busy). The email from Todd was a great first impression of the business. The following day, I called and the woman who answered the phone seemed to already know what I was calling about once I mentioned the delivery. She quickly gave me the total ($4.06), took my card info, and asked what flavor I wanted...she even offered to put sprinkles on it when I mentioned that the recipient was turning 9 and got her name so that it could be delivered directly to her. I knew she would be so excited about that! The day of came and our manicures and faux mimosas were underway. Our nail appointment was at 9:45am and I set delivery for 10am, just when Edible Art opens. 10:05am no cupcake, 10:15am no cupcake, 10:30am no cupcake and now our nail services are done. So disappointing! Had I not prepaid, I would have kept it moving but I decided to walk next door while my goddaughter and her mom relaxed and finished their juice. When I got next door, that is when things quickly went downhill for Edible Art. I walked in and no one was at the front. I waited for about 3 minutes before someone came from the back. I indicated that I set a 10am delivery for a cupcake and she smirked and said "a cupcake...a single cupcake" as if it was either untrue or not worth the time. She opened the door to the back and inquired if anyone knew about 1 cupcake being delivered to the nail salon and apparently no one did. She shrugged and asked what flavor I had ordered and is told her Vanilla Pearl and that it was already paid for. She then looked behind her at some papers that may have been order forms. Grabbed the cupcake and at that time I mentioned that it was for my goddaughter and it was going to have sprinkles. She took it to the back and, literally, 4 minutes later returned with it. Our family has enjoyed Edible Art for many years. My absolute favorite is their Almond Amaretto cake. Last year, I was thrilled to receive it for my birthday. Unfortunately, the excitement ended very quickly when we sliced into a dry cake with overly sweet icing. There wasn't a hint of Amaretto to be found. Surely this must've been the creation of a new, inexperienced baker on staff. Despite my disappointment and high cost of the cake, I did not complain to the store. I gave this location a two weeks notice for the birthday cake of the party. The day of the party the cake was not made and they had to make a custom cake that should've been chilled a day prior. Not only did this establishment not have a cake done (WITH A TWO WEEK ADVANCE) we paid in full at the establishment. I ended up going back to the place to get the cake and by time we got to the party. The cake was still warm, sliding in the box and the layers were cracked. In a situation like this the owner not only offered to only give $47 back for an almost $200 cake. She advised she would not be refunding anything more. Speaking with her on the phone not only did Heather (THE OWNER) conduct herself in a horrible manner. As the owner you should not yell to your clients who are putting money in your pockets. I was told to bring in a picture one week before, I brought in the invitation which had the color . When I arrived, I was told they weren't taking any new orders because of graduation season. Have purchased cakes from here for over 20 years, from their downtown Hillsborough St location, to near Meredith College, to their current North Hills bakery. Not sure what's happened over the past 3 years but it's not good. From sporadic dry cakes, to messed up decorations to incorrect cake deliveries. Anyway, we keep hoping for improvement but it hasn't happened. Just yesterday I picked up an 8 inch round for a hefty price only to discover it was only 7 inches and decorated TOTALLY incorrectly. OK, so decorations can be off, but to try to pass an 8 inch cake off as a 7 inch cake? It was so obvious it was small, my teenage son noticed it. Shameful, quality control is nonexistent there now- not sure what's happened. It used to be decadent and worth the price- a special gift, not so much anymore. I have gotten a few cakes from here since I have lived in the Raleigh area (including my wedding cake). Amazing cakes! Their cake is heavy and rich and is kind of similar to pound cake. The frosting is thick and creamy and legit. None of that sugary fluffy stuff here. Their cupcakes are definitely way different than the cake. The cupcakes are lighter and more airy than the cake. I personally love their cake because I like the heavier feel to it. Both are still yummy. We checked out their new location in north hills a few weeks ago. It is very visible when you turn into the main entrance-zip rime real estate. It is very clean and open inside with seating to enjoy desserts. They have displayed many of their cakes so you can see how creative and artistic the icing/presentation can be. I got a slice of vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream frosting and my husband got a cannoli puff. Th Puff was good but tasted more like a normal cream puff. My cake was delicious (per usual). Unfortunately the service was less than ideal. The guy who took our order seemed distracted and rushed us. He was not particularly helpful or friendly. When we got our desserts, we were not given forks or napkins and neither of which were set up on one of the counters (but sugars and coffee accessories were). We had to wait five minutes to get someone's attention to get us a fork after we paid Just to enjoy our goodies. It was disappointing. Called Edible Art a few days before a holiday party where I was expected to bring a sweet dish...Well naturally I can't bake to save my life so in order to spare myself the trouble I decided to just pony up for a delicious pie or cake...Made by a bakery. The woman I spoke to was extremely friendly and helpful with prices and suggestions and after a few minutes I decided on a pumpkin pie for the party. The price ended up being about $22 which was a bit steep but I didn't mind because they were able to fit me in on such short notice AND because the pie ended up being freakin' delicious. The filling was creamy and the crust flaky! Even the whipped cream on top was delicious (not too sweet which is always a welcomed surprise!) I received a ton of compliments on it and was able to enjoy a leftover piece the night after which was still quite good. I have not enjoyed anything but my pie from Edible Art but I imagine i'll be back very soon to experience more of their treats! read more

Great little bakery! I stopped in 4 days ago to place an order for my fiancé's birthday cake. I wasn't really sure what I wanted other than a fondant cake with some sort of a minion theme. I had to wait a little bit because there was a family in for a tasting, but that wasn't such a big deal. The staff was very helpful, and helped me figure out what I wanted the cake to look like by offering some suggestions (like polka dots on the sides). On Sunday, May 7, 2017, my family and I visited Edible Art. The intent was to use an expired Groupon for the purchase price of the Groupon. According to Groupon policy's if the Groupon expires before you get to use the promotional value, you can apply the purchase price of the Groupon to a purchase regardless of how long you have had the Groupon. The clerk, although never really friendly toward us, became extremely rude when I presented the Groupon. She refused to accept it for the amount I paid for the Groupon despite explaining to her that it was Groupon's policy. She went to the back to ask her manager and came back to me and continued to refused the Groupon and with an even nastier attitude. I paid for the items with a credit card, the clerk with the nasty attitude slammed the cash register or something after the transaction. We ate our dessert despite the cake slice being dry and the icing being extremely sweet. Over the years, I have purchased numerous cake from this extremely expensive bakery and have always been happy with service and the quality of the cake. After this experience, I will never purchase anything from them. After reporting the incident to Groupon, they refunded me the purchase price of the Groupon. read more

I visited this bakery for the first time yesterday afternoon. I had dinner plans with friends and no time to make dessert, so I figured I would swing by and pick up something. The store was super clean and everything was visually appealing. Attention to detail was evident in each cake, cupcake, bar, and cheesecake I saw. The staff was also super friendly and knowledgeable when I had questions. After debating on which cupcakes to get, I chose a red velvet, a salted caramel, and a peanut butter cup. Each of the cakes was moist and flavorful. The peanut butter cup had a chocolate cake with fudgy chunks in it, topped with a peanut butter frosting and what tasted like Butterfinger sprinkles. The red velvet had a nice cake, with a cream cheese frosting that wasn't overly sweet like a lot of red velvets I have tried. My favorite was the salted caramel, which was a chocolate cake with caramel core, and chocolate icing with caramel drizzled on top and crushed pretzels. I will say I wish the salted caramel had more of a caramel flavor, but the salty sweet element was there for sure. To my surprise, on Tuesdays the first two cupcakes are half off. Since I only got three cupcakes, mine were basically buy 2, get 1 free. This made my total $8 and some change for 3 cupcakes...kind of pricey, but a lot of these gourmet cupcake places have a similar rate. The customer service is unprofessional. I walked in to place a special ordered my son's 1st Birthday cake a over a week before his birthday. He's allergic to dairy, eggs, and soy. It was written down on his order sheet by the employee. It was confirmed with the manager as well that the cake can be made. The day before his party, I called to confirm his order and was then told the cake could not be made because there is soy in their vegan cake ingredients. I was highly disappointed and received nothing for this HUGE inconvenience besides an, "I'm sorry". I am still disappointed in the establishment because this could have been prevented the day we walked in a week ago. It's obvious the staff aren't aware of what's in their cakes as well. I came from CA to throw an important party for a friend and wanted to make sure that everything would be just right. Sent in my email with the picture of what I wanted and had a conversation with edibleart about how I specifically loved the pastels in the photo, and that I wanted the pink and purples. I go to pick up my cake and it's bright blue and green... this matched absolutely nothing at the party accept for one kids hair. I was not happy, asked what happened and the lady at the counter says "yeah I see it here in your note that you wanted pastels, I guess different people have different ideas of pastels".... I literally sent in a photo. She offers to fix it but it will take 2 hours, I didn't have time to do that so she offered me half off which was nice. I have ordered many cakes from this bakery in the past. I just ordered 1 this week for my daughters birthday. I ordered vanilla with raspberry filling. I served it on the birthday and it had no raspberry filling. I called the next day and Alexa refunded the amount of the filling. The cake was very pretty but a little dry. I think they should have refunded more of the cost or offered another cake. I ordered a shower cake last week from another bakery and it was much better. Not sure I will order from this place again. I crave this delicious pound cake everyday. The almond cake was our wedding cake, and it's super amazing. We tried the chocolate and it was to die for, and we ordered a vanilla for our son's birthday. Seriously, HANDS DOWN, the best cake in town. I am a baker, and I am very picky. This cake is truly incredible and never ever disappoints! If you're craving cake, or need a beautifully exquisite cake for your wedding or major event, come here.
