I was a bit skeptical about this place at first, due to all the negative reviews. However, my friend and I decided to come here anyway, because 1) we were cold, 2) what better way to warm up than eating a nice, hot bowl of soup, and 3) we were hungry. The restaurant is small and cozy. Not the fanciest or cleanest place I've been to, but NOT dirty to the point where we wanted run. The waitress spoke mainly in Mandarin, so there were times where we had to keep asking her to speak in English because we don't know the language. My friend and I both got the beef noodle soup, along with 2 sides - beef tendon (which was more like brisket) and Taiwanese sausage (like a fresh version of those shriveled up frozen Chinese sausages you find in the freezer section of Asian Food..a.k.a. Lap Xuong in Vietnamese). The beef tendon was served cold with a sauce that tasted strongly of sesame seeds. Not bad if you don't mind eating cold meats. The Taiwanese sausage was more sweet than savory, which I honestly don't mind. The beef noodle soup was served in a pretty large bowl (I'd say, good for two people) as well as a ladle a.k.a. their soup spoon. I'm not exaggerating about the spoon, it really is a LADLE. This soup could be slightly more flavorful, but overall it really isn't that bad. The beef is braised and is melt in your mouth tender. The broth is a wee bit too oily to my liking, but I can look past that. The service is a little slow, maybe cause we're not Chinese. I felt like they serviced the Chinese guests better than us, but maybe that's just my head playing mind games. Overall, the food was slightly above average in my opinion. I drove passed this place a couple of times and was curious if it was any good. My boyfriend and I went in on a Friday evening and there wasn't a wait for a table. Very clean, friendly staff. We ordered the pork buns, shrimp noodles, shrimp fried rice, general tsos chicken, beef noodle soup and scallion pancakes. EVERYTHING was delicious !!! Had high hopes for their beef noodle soup to be just as good. Edison Noodle House failed to deliver. The menu is marginally expanded to include fried rice and stirfried noodle/rice cake dishes, and some "dim sum" items, but everything was pretty much average, if not below average. We all ordered hot tea, but it was not hot, nor did it taste like tea. Below are the food items we ordered: - Xiao Long Bao (soup buns) - two of our buns were broken, and the juices were leaking out into the steamer before we even touched it...didn't taste like homemade though - Scallion Pancake - too thin, too crispy, and bland, also didn't taste fresh. Didn't come with any dipping sauce either, so we got some soy sauce - Beef Noodle Soup - noodles were thin, meat was chewy and not tender - Taiwanese Stirfried Rice Noodles (mi fen) - looked more like clear vermicelli than rice noodles, bland - Beef Fried Rice - typical fried rice dish, lacking in flavor as well General theme we noticed was the food did not come out hot, everything was pretty much luke warm. I really loved Noodlelicious, the restaurant that occupied this space before Edison Noodle House. I tried out Edison Noodle House hoping that it would be as good as Noodlelicious and after my first visit I thought it was decent, so a few weeks later I decided to go there again. I won't go back. I don't expect 5 star service in Chinese restaurants: but this place is exceptionally bad. As I tried to get the attention of someone who worked here to solve the issues I had both waitresses were sitting down on their phones. Not once did one of them stop by to check on my table. The food was fine. But the first issue was that there was a fly in my mother's tea. A dead fly floating in her tea. As I said above I tried numerous times to get the attention of one of the waitresses but they were too busy playing on their cell phones. I had to yell out across the restaurant to get someone's attention. Then at the end of our meal it took forever to get boxes to take home and our check. Again playing with the cell phones. I won't be back. The foods not good enough to have to deal with horrible service and the dead fly tea was the kicker. My three star does not mean this restaurant serves worst food, but as a frequent customer for over 2 years and a Taiwanese, I could list what is good vs what needs improving in terms of food: 1.Spicy chilly beef noodles is the new dish ever since this restaurant has ownership change. Honestly they will give customer larger serving as takeout. Dining in serving is obviously smaller. I have high tolerance of spiciness for I grew up with a bit Schichuan upbringing, but this dish is way too spicy if you don't ask them to do less. Except for that, I think this is my favorite so far. 2. Vinegar seaweed( cold dish): this is very authentic and my must have. Definitely get this on in summer time. 3. Pan-fried rice cake: either shanghai or veggie one is good ; personally I think it is a bit too greasy, but flavor-wise is great. The genuine reason for 3 stars: As for beef noodles that should represent Taiwan's most food of appeal, I would say this restaurant does not keep the quality and has disappointed me for several times. Tried this place for the first time after they relocated to the larger place. Service is extremely slow, and all the staff members are not attentive at all. You have to ask for tea refills, spices, and placing the food order etc. All personnel are inexperience. We had to wait for more than half an hour for our food to arrive. Several tables seated after us were served before us. Their system of bringing food to your table is kind of random, if the waiter/waitress looks at your order first then you are in luck. They don't follow any system of first in first out. The food was a bit salty, the beef noodle was mediocre with only a few pieces of beef. The fried noodle was very salty and the portion was small. I ordered the Very good beef noodle. The taste was Taiwan style. The beef 金錢腱 was the best kind of beef for Taiwanese beef noodle. Both meat and noodle portions were huge. I took more than half of my beef noodle home for my dinner meal. My wife ordered 榨醬麵, she also liked it very much. It had a lot of veg and tasty meat sauce. Again, it was a large bowl, enough for two meals. The appetizer price was a little high. I would give them five stars if their beef is a little bit more tender. I've been here once and would LOVE to go back. We ordered a scallion pancake, pork steamed buns, stir fried rice cakes with pork and some pork noodle soup (whose name escapes me). I thought it was all really great, with the soup having among the more flavorful, satisfying broths I've ever tasted. The stir fried rice cakes were delicious too, I loved how chewy they were. I have gone to this place a few times in the past year whenever I need a beef noodle fix. Overall this place is great for a few of their items. The beef noodle dish is in my opinion their best dish. They already have a limited menu so make sure you know that coming in. I wish they would have more but if you are going to only do one thing, you have to do that really well in the business world. They do accomplish that task with their Taiwanese beef noodle dish. Tried this place for the first time after it changed from Noodlicious to Edison Noodle House. There are more varieties on the menu than it has when it was Noodlicious but more isn't always better... Everything we ordered, noodles, beef sandwiches, scallion pancake are all okay but nothing was great. We also ordered the soup dumpling; it is not horrible but there aren't much soup inside - there are definitely better ones around Edison area. The portion size are very generous for the noodle. I can eat a lot of noodle but I am more than stuffed after one bowl. Overall, this place is okay if you want a relatively cheap and filling meal. We finally gave it a try, every time we passed by the restaurant was always busy from outside. It's a traditional noodle house. They don't have a lot of vegetarian or vegan options. I had vegetable noddle soup. It's nice but would prefer they put bokchoy instead of cabbage. And tofu would be nice to add as well. I have to put some chili oil to give a little spicy and more tasty.
