February 2024. My wife needed a block heater installed on her 2019 Subaru Forester. Aside from coordinating family carpooling into Anchorage Continental Subaru, we decided to try the valley since we live here. Wasilla's garages were overpriced with one garage billing $1,500 for a simple block heater install. Meanwhile Palmer's garages were similarly overpriced average $550 up to $750. It seemed to good to be true when we phoned Edmund's Import Auto. They quoted to us THREE TIMES $350 down to $338 over the phone. Finally my wife signed off with her e-signature at their front counter's computer for $338. He stated they would have it done next day at $338, so we committed to them. Bold faced liars! Next business day Edmund's Tracy said "Sorry, there was a mix-up, actually the cord doesn't fit the exhaust so we had to fast-lap another block heater!" "New price is now closer to $500!" My immediate thought to myself: "WTF!!" I told Tracy both she and her coworker stated $338. No if's, no and's, nor but's. Told Tracy my wife signed off for $338. Tracy denied this to me over the phone. Tracy literally LIED to us! Disgraceful. At that point it had deteriorated to a "He said! She said!" situation. If you value the integrity of your word, then do not go to Edmund's Import Auto because they don't value their word to you! Highly unprofessional, unethical, and has terrible customer service... Wanted a block heater for my 2008 Volkswagen Jetta an IMPORT. They said "that does not exist for that vehicle, however we'll install an oil pan heater and battery blanket". Assuming that they are IN ALASKA, they "should" know what they are talking about. Well they called and informed me the work was complete and that they could have installed the requested block heater. ??? UNPROFESSIONAL Fast forward a few years and that vehicle needed replaced. I found a Volkswagen Tiguan on craigslist with a clean record. I coordinated with the seller to meet after discovering the vehicle had a clean title. He proceeded to tell me "I am an Edmond's OWNER and the car is actually rebuilt". ??? UNETHICAL And now this year, my partner used them for a similar service (without knowing my history). As I am waiting for her to pickup her vehicle, I see a garage employee pull out with a customer BMW and fishtail recklessly in the back parking lot. ??? We have used Edmonds for 15 plus years for all our vehicles. Our 2005 VW Jetta GLI quit. They diagnosed as broken timing belt. They had changed it 7 years and 47,000 miles ago. VW says they should go 100,000 and 10 years or at least 80,000 in conditions like Alaska. Our factory belt had over 100,000 miles when they changed it. Very high quote as head needs to be removed so we brought it home and I removed belt which failed due to 25 percent of teeth missing due to dry rot. I showed them belt and asked for them to replace at parts and labor cost only. Kevin the owner even said maybe the belt had been sitting on shelf for years and was old when installed. They declined to work with us in any way to make things right. They have totally lost our business as they could have worked with us as long term customers. read more

I called to schedule an oil change through Edmonds and they said they were booked up for the current day, but had openings first thing in the morning. I asked at the time how long they would need the vehicle as the time before for an oil change they had my car for borderline 2 full days as it was finally done after closing on the second day. This time Ryan ensured me that the process only takes an hour and change and I could have my car back in an hour and a half tops. I dropped the car off first thing in the morning and reverified the time it would take. Ryan then confirmed since it was first thing they should have it done in an hour tops. 3.5 hours later I called as I had not heard from them. Ryan confirmed that the car had yet to go back as "they got busy", but they would be getting it in soon. I advised I verified the time twice as I needed the vehicle back by that afternoon and could not wait any longer. Ryan then said the OWNER was going to take my car in and work on it himself to ensure that the vehicle would be done in time. After hanging up, 5 minutes later Ryan called back and said if I would like to head down now, they would have my vehicle out in the next 5-10 as it was just an oil change and they took it back while I was on the phone. I waited about 5 and then headed there getting there at the 10 minute mark. I walk in and was told I could sit and wait as it should be out any moment now. 40 minutes later I was told that they were "sorry" but it should be out soon. another 5 later and I was finally able to get my keys and get back to my day. When I got out to the car I noticed the Tire Pressure light was on and thought to myself how it was odd for it not to be on when I brought it in, but now leaving the light is on. After an oil change took 4+ hours I figured I would take the vehicle down to the gas station and just add some air myself. As I began to add air to my tire, I could hear the air exiting from the tire to a close rate of it going in. After finding the source of the air exiting I find a screw drove directly into the angled corner of the tire. I called back to Edmonds to talk about everything and bring up the tire and the best thing they could tell me was they are sorry and could sign me up for their rewards program which would offer me road side assistance for future problems.... Honestly I get places getting backed up, hell it wasnt the first time this had happened of course, but for it to be a continuous problem and it to now cost me new tires for my car just to be offered road side assistance..... yeahhhhh I am good.. read more

If you care about your car and and want knowledgeable technicians to work on it this is the place. They have a texting system that notifies you about your costs, when jobs are done etc. if you are getting work done during August beware that the state fair is going on as well and traffic will be heavy. Their parking up front is limited. However if you can wait for your car the noisy goose is a nice restaurant in the next parking lot. I had my beemer diagnosed here and repaired and saved tons of money that the dealership wanted to charge me. read more

I've been taking my 2010 Volkswagen Routan van to this mechanic shop for any and all challenges it has experienced since I purchased it. Though there haven't been many due to it being a great vehicle, the managers and team here are a phenomenal group of people that have been thorough in addressing any challenges I've brought to them. Their attention to detail and service is irreproachable, and their honesty far surpasses expectation. The repair costs have always been fair, and are in alignment with suggested rates if not lower. They have a shuttle service and the drivers are always courteous and on time. Not only do they take care of your vehicle, they're also concerned with keeping you on schedule with your daily routine while working on your vehicle! I've got nothing but praises for them, and hope to see their success for as long as they keep providing great service to their customers. Upon an initial service Edmonds hydro-locked my engine while performing a test. The original estimated cost was to be approximately $1800, as a result the final bill approached $6000. Then the heads and/or gasket they replaced as a result of the original test failure them selves failed. This resulted in antifreeze in the oil which intern totaled my engine. Edmunds was fairly easy to work with while they were of the impression the warranty would fall on the parts supplier. Once NAPA and the other parts suppliers declined to warranty the parts Edmunds instantly changed there toon. It took 5 months to get my truck back. The original fix, while we were of the impression the bill would fall on the parts supplier, was to be a remanufactured engine. Once the parts companies declined the honor the warranty Edmonds quickly back peddled and found a junkyard engine for replacement. Nearly five months later I've got my truck back with a mystery engine that they could never possibly warranty. This shop has no moral values and they do not honor there warranty plan with out a fight. I was forced to consult with a consumer rights attorney for guidance. read more

I came in to have check engine light checked out, and to replace the low beam light . They replaced bulb, and it didn't fix the problem. I ask if they checked the fuse, and was told both lights would be out if it was the fuse. Since it is illegal to drive w/0 low beam working I schedule another appointment. Computer said my fuel cap was cracked and they wanted to charge me $55 to replace a fuel cap I opted to replace my own fuel cap which cost me $14.50. When I came back I was told (it was in fact the fuse) and they charged another hour time to replace two 110 fuses. Same mechanic! My Suggestion -Go elsewhere. read more

My car has a push button start. When I pushed the button, the instrument panel lit up but the engine didn't crank so I had it towed into this place. The diagnosis was that the battery was leaking and that the battery and cables needed to be replaced at a cost of $700+. Luckily I didn't accept. Instead I went to Wal-Mart and bought a new battery for $85 and the car started right up. Bottom line: These guys don't have their customer's best interest in mind. I would like to say first that I hate to write a bad review. However, when it comes to safety I think people should be aware. I have looked long and hard for a conscientious mechanic after for many years doing the work myself. I thought I had found my mechanic after talking with the co-owner, who was pleasant and knowledgeable. I took my car in and they replaced the brakes and rotors. I dropped my wife off to pick up the car, and she headed down the freeway. Part way to Anchorage a rear wheel locked up and she skidded over to stop on the side of the road. The care was towed back to Edmonds where it was found that they apparently reassembled the brake calipers incorrectly. One came loose, causing the wheel to lock up. I've done brakes and other repairs many times. A key point in this repair is to go around and check all the caliper bolts carefully and adjust with a torque wrench if needed. This is absolutely essential on a safety item like brakes. They apologized and offered a free oil change, but with this loss of trust on my very first visit, I do not see any way I can return. read more

Spend $120 on oil change on my Lexus, no difference in price than the dealer in Anchorage. But I love the waiting room and free loaner from the dealer. We also asked Edmond to repair my broken trailer wiring. It cost $140 to diagnose the problem and they gave us a quote for $170 to repair it. We were not comfortable with that initially, but we wanted to stay local and took the car in for the repair anyways. When we made the appointment, they told us that they have the part already and will only cost $110. We took the car in and when the repair was done, the cost was $145. We paid the bill and tested the work with our trailer after we got home. It did not work. Took it back in Edmond for recheck. They saw the problem, but blamed it on something else and told me that its fixed, despite its clearly not working. They then told me that the poor result is because we elect to not replace the part, which was not the case. We were not even given an option. At this point, Edmonds Import Auto lost all its credibility and I would not want anyone there to work on my car. I told them I will just take my business somewhere else.
