Went to the Edmonds Theatre for the first time last night for the Throwback Thursday screening of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY in honor of Rob Reiner. My hubs and I love this movie from 1989 and it was wonderful to see it in a classic, vintage theater (100+ years old!) with a good-sized crowd. So fun to laugh and cry with lots of people at the movies again!! The COVID pandemic took this tradition away and I am really hoping more people start going back to the movies again. The staff were friendly and the place was clean and full of good popcorn smells. We didn't partake though because $9 for a small bag of popcorn is just too expensive. But we appreciated this nice, old theater and we will be back. read more

I used to LOVE this theater. It just had such a great vibe, GREAT employees, who ENJOYED their jobs AND patrons & it had an old school feeling theater vibe. Just such an enjoyable experience whenever I frequented it. Unfortunately from what I understand it was recently sold. Sigh. It's STILL a great old school theater, but that's about all that has remained. The fun, quirky, employees that always seemed to enjoy their work and showed their commitment to our lovely community have been replaced by dour, seemingly VERY unhappy and just CRANKY employees. I worked in Costumer Service for 30 years, and believe me it's HARD, especially during and after COVID. IMHO employees ACT like this under really bad mangers and management. Miserable employees treat customers with no kindness, no joy. My advice to management is FIX yourselves and the employee will follow. 'Nuf said! Best of luck, you bought a GEM, I hope you can find it again and KEEP IT. read more

Edmonds Theater was our go-to local movie theater growing up. It had some of the most recent hits and we made an occasion of coming with my immediate family. It has also been a place I have frequented with friends and more extended family. The ticket prices were excellent, especially the matinee, and the concessions not overly pricey. Seating in the theater itself had a ground level and two balcony sections. The restrooms were located up the stairs by the entrances/exits to the balcony areas. When super busy, toilet paper might have run a little low, so my mom tried to get one of us ladies to remember a small package of Kleenex (travel size) to take with us if we came during a busier show time. The main drawback to coming here has been getting tickets to some of the bigger name movies. When one of the "Harry Potter" films came out, we were waiting in line and the workers counted out in the line who would be able to get tickets and we did not make the cut off. Thankfully, they communicated this at the time. Later, in December 2019, my parents and I (group of three) were the fourth group in line to buy tickets for a "Star Wars" movie and the three groups ahead of us bought all but two of the remaining tickets. Clearly their policy on ticket purchase maximums had changed. I would have aired on the side of 4 stars, then I realized the experience from 2019 left us just off-put enough we have not even tried to see a movie here since (I am writing this review on Thursday 16 November 2023). So, 3 stars felt like a better fit taking into account the positivity it brought to us earlier in life, but not so much in more recent years. read more

A wonderful theatre with good management with an appreciation of the cinematic arts. It is well maintained and keeps prices in a reasonable range( including snack bar which uses real butter product on popcorn). It is just one of the many pleasures afforded as a resident of Edmonds and non residents are certainly welcome. read more

Warning if you go to this theater be sure you don't have one drink a the famous Daphne's next store or they will not serve you a beer at the concession stand. read more

I went here yesterday to watch "Toy Story 4", which came out this week. It's a very cute place to watch movies, and the surrounding areas are family friendly, boujee, and peaceful. I definitely will need to come back soon because it is a lot cheaper (maybe $4 cheaper) than seeing movies in AMC or Regal's and the staff is very friendly. read more

I've been coming here for years, more so recently since my friend moved to Edmonds. Movies are cheaper than regular theaters, but parking can be more difficult. The theater is older, but the 18 and over upstairs balcony continues to be a plus. Tuesdays are the best when movies are 7$. Sometimes you can catch something that the regular theaters in the area may neglect to show. They also do a showing with subtitles once a week as well. This theater is family owned and very community based. It has a lot of free movie nights as well. I was very thankful to see the showing of Purple Reign for the first time when Prince died. I had also hoped to make it to some of the Halloween movie nights in October. I believe they show the Walking Dead too. Keep and eye on facebook to see what special events are coming. The line for concessions can be long, but prices are cheaper than standard theaters. This theater is often used for Rick Steves Travel classes as well. Lots of great restaurants, shops and bars in the neighborhood. read more

I love this place and I don't come here nearly often enough! I came tonight for their free showing of "Amelie" in honor of Bastille Day and I absolutely loved it! I felt a little bad that I didn't get anything from their concession stand, because that's how they make their money but I'm going to start coming here more often. I LOVE the balcony and it's so cool to sit in the first row and have a completely unobstructed view of the screen. The seats leave a lot to be desired. I had more than enough leg room (A very good thing), but I had to sit toward the front of the seat because I felt myself leaning back . This isn't a complaint at all. I mean, after all it was built in 1924 and it's wonderful that they still have the original seats. If you're not comfortable with narrow stairs (or stairs at all) I would recommend sitting on the lower level. But there are restrooms upstairs, so that's a great thing. The staff is really nice and like I said before the next time I come I'm going to take advantage of their concession stand. The prices are steep; $5 for a large soft drink, but when the movie is free anyway, it's a bargain. They have popcorn and I believe they have candy as well. The guy gave me a small cup of ice water, which was very nice of him. I'm glad this place is open again and despite the hard to find parking downtown, it's totally worth it. I was lucky this time and found a parking space a few blocks away and I was glad that it was still light when the movie ended. read more

A bit unprepossessing from the outside, this actually turns out to be a nice little historic theater inside. It's got a great vintage feel to the way you walk up to the box office (actually more of a mini-desk), further up to the narrow concession stand, and then twist and turn as you work your way further through the lobby. The spaces are all confined, and in the event that a big crowd is waiting in the lobby for the next show to start, well, you're kinda sunk. They can sell 250 tickets, but 90% of those people won't fit between the front door and the hallway to the auditorium. That's actually kinda cool, though. Before you do get to the auditorium, you pass a staircase that leads to...a balcony. That's what officially makes this a cool old-school theater. Small as it might be, it has a balcony. Pretty sweet. Inside, the picture's good, and so's the sound. Screen is pretty small. I probably wouldn't come see a restored print of Lawrence of Arabia here. But if you're not completely preoccupied with the visuals, it's perfectly great. The seats are comfortable, and the place certainly is clean everywhere you look. Everyone in line and inside seems to know somebody else in the crowd--it really is quite the neighborhood setting. I've lived closer to this theater than almost any other for 7 years now, counting two different houses. It's a wonder I haven't been in before. There are half a dozen places between your parking spot and here where I like to eat (and/or at least will willingly eat), and a couple good spots for a tipple as well. It's silly not to see movies here. Plus, tickets are $8 a piece. Compared to buying them online in advance for most theaters, that's about $5 less than a typical pair of tickets. There is generous seating on the main floor and a balcony level. Personally, I enjoy the music before the show a lot more than the never ending ads at the chain theaters! read more

Ticket prices are: $7 - General Admission $6 - 62 years and older $5 - 12 years and under. Kids under 12 get a FREE bag of popcorn!! In the last five years they have done over $50,000 in upgrades so that they can show first run movies. The place is super clean, and please help keep it that way by bringing your trash back to the lobby after the movie. This place is something special as are the owners and staff! read more

Short-tempered ticket sales clerk was grumpy to my elderly handicapped parents when they asked for clarification on a punchcard. The concessions guy immediately cut my mom off when she started her request for a soda by pointing at the a list on the counter and saying "this is the list ". Had no sooner picked up one of their copies of the Edmonds news from inside, than was quickly told I couldn't bring it in the theatre because "other people leave the papers on the floor and spilled drinks makes it impossible to clean up" Three possible solutions: 1. How about you adjust your seats' drink holders so they don't tilt back 15 degrees and maybe spilling wouldn't be such a problem. 2. Polite signage is preferred to being barked at, or 3. Don't offer it at all if it makes keeping a clean floor a challenge. Also while the foyer was fine, the seating area inside the theatre smelled pretty staunchly of fart or sewage and I assure you it wasn't us. Not a great experience today. read more

I saw The Post at this theater. Since the movie had been out for a while, my husband and I had no trouble getting tickets about 20 minutes before showtime. We parked in downtown Edmonds, which is a really cute area. My husband also saw Star Wars on opening weekend. Most of the theaters in the Seattle and East Side area were sold out or had limited assigned seating, so he bought his ticket to see it here. Seating is great. It was packed but we found two seats near the back. The audience consisted of mostly senior citizens. They were all extremely friendly and sometimes even sassy and vocal. Before the show begins, the theater owner or manager gives brief announcements. There are no previews or commercials. The only thing missing is that I wish they showed Black Panther at this theater as soon as it was released. They have been showing Lady Bird here and now they are showing A Wrinkle In Time. If they end up showing Black Panther any time, we will be there ASAP. read more

We don't go to too many movies, but it's nice to be able to patronize a local business. We've only lived in downtown Edmonds since March and we've been in this theater once to hear Rick Steves talk about his trip to Cuba and tonight we went to see Victoria & Abdul. I love this little theater and hope people continue to support it and keep it open for many years to come. The price isn't two bad. The popped corn is fabulous and they serve hot tea! First Time Attendee: This place is a one screen independent theatre. The chairs are comfy and the prices are reasonable. They even do free shows (3rd Thursday - Throwback Thursday). The Edmonds vibe is all over this place. My reason for four stars not five is the food/drink attendants, it took over 15 minutes to work about a dozen people through the line. We love this theater but why is there no heat on a 39* evening in February? The movie Just Mercy was great but we nearly froze. It seems like hot water should be a law to have in their rest rooms. They only have cold water. Need some work in this great place. read more

Going on movie dates with my dad is something I've done since I was a kid. One of my first memories was seeing Disney's "Pete's Dragon" on a re-release in the 80s. Watching live-action-meets-animation on the big screen was magical for me. Thirty years later, my dad and I still comb through the genres and find stories that give us an emotional workout. Having a date at the Edmonds Theater was no different, except for the friendliness that a historic single-screen cinema lends. We enjoyed a welcoming atmosphere in the quaint lobby with a smiling staff and viewing room shared with locals. The action film we watched was made better by freshly popped popcorn, candy, soda and the kind of comfort only a father's strong arm and shoulder can provide. read more

We saw Zero Dark Thirty at Edmonds Theater last night. I freaking love this place. From the nerdy stoner dude selling tickets, to the support your own local advertising before the flick, this place is great. They even have nutritional yeast for the popcorn. What's that? THAT's a star bump! Highly recommend a little late afternoon trip to Edmonds to stroll downtown and catch a movie. Sit up on the balcony and be pleased how cool you are to be over 18 and allowed to sit on the balcony. read more

I'm a fan of the old school theaters that are a little dark, a little dank, and a little historic. Just offers a different feel and tends to draw a different crowd of people. They have some pretty cheap tickets compared to the bigger chain theaters as well. All in all a good place. read more

Little cozy movie theater. Friendly cashier. Popcorn was good, but it took so long to get it ready for a few people. Which made me think: how long you need to wait for it if there is a crowd of people? It was pretty warm inside. I liked that. Sound was weird. I could not get use to it. First i thought there is someone talking or whispering but then I realized that speakers were giving a "third party" sound. lol. Sounded like they had sounds like forest noise or whisper going out of speakers on the right side on the back. It was distracting. Seats were ok. I don't know if i will be back. I tried to call that place , but all I could get is answering machine. No website ether. :(. Strange that they sell groupons and don't even have a scanner for this. Why anyone with kids who lives within 15 miles of this place wouldn't go here for a flick is beyond me! 3-D movies give me a headache and they are way too spendy (and overrated) for a family with children. Ticket prices here are less than other boring suburban mall theaters (mattinee prices are $6 for kids AND adults, evening prices are $9) and the concessions are cheaper too. Popcorn is free for kids and once you fill your theater punch card (pretty easy to do if you hit a few movies with the fam) your popcorn and drink are free too. I love that! They have booster seats in the lobby for little ones and pretty comfortable seats for a retro theater. I am a huge fan of the older smaller Seattle theaters so I'm thrilled to find such a clean, charming theater so close to home with plenty of parking on the street and cute places to shop and eat when the movie is done. You'll walk out of there, blinking back the sunshine, feeling you've slipped back to a simpler time. read more

Cute little theater in the sleepy town of Edmonds. This place has so much character, and is very intimate. Just a heads up, the lobby and concessions stand can fill up within minutes, so if you get there early try to sneak into the front of the theater seating entrance or balcony (race to the front row of seats if you decide to sit upstairs). We went here recently to watch "The Help" using a Groupon I bought. Since the movie was set in the 50's, the vintage feel of the theater put me right into the era of the film. Word of advice for the summer, make sure you bring a paper or small hand held battery operated fa, it can get really warm. read more

This place is adorable! I came here for a movie screening event being put on for/with a nonprofit with which I volunteer. The staff were super friendly and got us set up at a table right in front to greet the guests, and got everything ready for us to use the theater. It's a very small space, so I can't imagine being here for a large-scale event or really popular movie, but it's quaint in its limited size. There's a balcony which I didn't check out (and which requires you to be 18+ to use) and a cute little concession stand with yummy popcorn and other snacks. It's an older theater as well, but really cute and I'd love to come back for another movie sometime. Side note: you can apparently rent out the theater for an event, which is what the person running our event did. Good to know! read more

What a fun place to take in a movie. If your a big kid you can even sit in the balcony and if you are a little kid you get a free brown paper bag full of buttery popcorn. LOVE THIS PLACE. Newer patrons. First attended a free viewing of Blazing Saddles in memory of Gene Wilder. Great crowd. Sometimes interactive with older movies but done with good taste and improves the performance. FREE scary movies Saturday nights at 10PM this October (and hopefully beyond). Magic number! Magic number! OH, how I remember that the most exciting part of seeing a movie when I was a kid was to walk out at the end and see if our ticket had the magic number (for a free movie ticket in the future). And, how exciting was it the first time I was able to watch a film from the front row of the balcony. Answer: VERY exciting. The Edmonds theater is the epitome of Edmonds charm and old-town feel. Without Old Milltown, the theater is one of the last remaining remnants of Edmonds history (down the street is the museum). Built in 1927, the theater has remained and also has been updated to show new films. Prices are up to $7.50, but that still can't be beat anywhere else in the area. Matinee's are a mere $5. read more

This is such a cute little theater. It is in downtown Edmonds and the theater is obviously a little older so if you are looking for the most saavy high tech electronics and viewing experience, you probably want to head up the road to the theaters near Alderwood mall. This theater does have great sound and an upstairs balcony for those 18+ years old. All movies prior to 5pm are ALWAYS $6 and kids always get a free small popcorn. VERY CUTE theater :) read more

I always try to catch a film here instead of at the chain theaters if I can. As the other reviewers mention, the prices are good, and you can get a free movie with your punch-card. :) The atmosphere is mellow and comfortably old-fashioned, and you don't have to sit through a zillion ads and previews. The seats are pretty comfy. Oh yeah, and there's a balcony, too. They have a few rows of seats with a spot at the end where you can pull a wheelchair or walker up, which is a nice alternative to wheelchairs only fitting in the very back of the theater. On the downside for disabled folks, the restrooms are tiny and up a flight of stairs. The folks who run this theater are friendly and helpful. One time I felt sick during a movie and had to leave, and they offered me a pass to come back another time. Can't imagine the big chains doing that! The theater is one of the few old-timey Edmonds experiences left, so skip the Netflix one night and give it a try! read more

This historic little theater in downtown Edmonds is adorable. I especially love that they have an 18+ balcony area. Great place to catch a flick and neck with your date. Good popcorn too! Tip: they're better at updating their FB page with the most current movies than their actual online site. And that, my friends, is how we got stuck watching "Puss in Boots" rather than "Ides of March." Also, be prepared to stand in line for a pre-5pm movie on the weekend. read more

From the balcony seems like an awesome way to watch a movie until you realize your stuck on the side of the screen. The screen is smaller than the larger chains and their sound system is not as up to date. However, they are much better priced and friendlier than the larger chains. I go here for the movies where I'm not as worried about sound/video quality. They do have midnight showings for epic movie releases and the lines aren't as bad as for the bigger theaters. I have never had to buy advance tickets (I almost without that information for that reason ;) In summary, this is a great discount theater. I avoid it for action flicks but otherwise a good theater. read more

I love this place. Small town feel, intimate sort of setting,and just enough funk/quirkiness to make it memorable. I beg my hubby to take me there instead of the bigger theaters every time we go to see a movie. read more
