I've tried just about every place in Greater Chicagoland, and Edos is my absolute favorite. They even brought out sweet egg pieces for my baby daughter when we came last. They are just great people, who make great sushi (and everything else for that matter) and thats why it will always be my #1 local sushi stop. read more

Cheesy ramen? Yes, please! The mochi was balanced--not overly sweet--and the garlic calamari was super garlicky, though not what I anticipated. I expected the usual deep-fried and breaded version, but this was a pleasant surprise. To be fair, I didn't really read the menu and just picked random dishes, but nothing disappointed. I have eaten here probably a hundred times or more. Sean and his family provide gold-class service and their Japanese food is the best in the area. I've had sushi across the US and Edo is still my favorite, as the quality has not changed since I first started going in 2006 and I always know that whatever I order will be absolutely delicious. It has a true home-in-the-wall/ hidden gem feel with intimate seating and low lighting. I always enjoy my time there, so I hope you do as well!! My wife and I arrived on a cold rainy Sunday afternoon. We were attended very cordially and served quickly despite que a few take out orders being prepared. I was a little concerned when I saw the outside of this place. It's a little plain and in a strip mall. I was more concerned when I entered and there was only o e other person there. I should not have been. The food was well size and absolutely fresh and delicious. I got the sashimi dinner and a sushi roll and I was blown away. The 18 pieces of fish probably totaled a pound and the salmon, tuna and white tuna were huge for sashimi servings. Additionally the meal came with a Miso soup and a salad with and orange ginger dressing that was a nice change. The roll was delicious, although a little sloppy with a piece coming apart when I picked it up, a minor point. I will both be back and I will highly recommend this place. This is a review for delivery that was placed via GrubHub. My girlfriend and I debated a long time whether to go to the restaurant or order in while staying at a hotel. Ultimately we decided to slip into pajamas and order in. We bought Chicken and Steak Hibachi, Beef Yaki Soba, Chicken Yakitori, Garlic Broccoli and Cheese Cake Tempura. Steamed rice and miso soup was also included. My chicken and steak hibachi was very well done. It came with mixed vegetables and could easily fill anyone up. The beef yaki soba was also quite flavorful and was a big portion. We both loved the garlic broccoli; it was just a container of broccoli and a container of a garlic sauce that you can either dip in or pour over. We never tried cheese cake tempura but it was a fun desert. It really is just cheesecake with a crispy crust. The portions are so big that you will no doubt have leftovers. They have many different choices as well. My only small complaint is that it's a little pricey. The cost was a little more than what I would expect to pay for only two people. But if you're interested in great Japanese food while you're in the area I fully recommend this place. read more

Edo is special to those of us who have travailed the haunts near Joliet, IL. A place where I lived several years in the oughts, and a suburb of Chicago where many Chicago-ans balk and laugh when you say you come from there. Because, this place is right near Stateville prison, and the reputation of mob-life is unmistakable! So, not many go out of the way, and take the drive from Chicago to Crest Hill. They are missing out on this traditional Suki-Yake, which is a caldroun of soup none will ever forget! Of course, many may have had the popular variations on Nori (Seaweed) soup. And, this is very similar, but I think harder to find, therefore very fulfilling and unique. I suggest this for take-out, anytime. Especially, as a reward for personal accomplishments - i.e. ~ finishing a long semester at school, or celebrating a promotion at work, or other rites of passage. Better when you save for special occasions! Delectable and hearty, fulfilling in every way. And, the rest of the menu is impeccable, here. So, definitely try the other options on the regular days. I pity those who cannot make the historic trek for this experience of fantastic tradition. (I just love Suki-Yaki to-go, and let this cool slightly in the fridge! Overpriced and overrated. Came in with the hubby because we hadn't found a good Sushi place around the area yet. The place was lonely and dark. No air conditioning. People linger over you as you order/wait. I saw a 25$ lobster roll (6 pcs). The only thing that was good was the Sushi rice. The Sushi would of tasted better if it was chilled and fresh. They take advantage that they're the only ones in the area. Decor was a bit off putting. A big dry fountain in the middle of the restaurant. Asian dolls, swords, and posters. Somehow they managed to make it all seem like Japanese horror night. Overall i don't think it's worth the price to come regularly. If it's your last resort then maybe. I've been spending a lot of time in Omaha, and eating a fair amount of sushi. When I had the chance to re-visit the Edo Japanese in Joliet, I jumped at it. To be honest, the sushi could have been better. Thankfully, the wasabi and ginger were plentiful, which helped. The main courses were passable as they were, but I'd be stretching to give this more than 3 stars. The service was good. Eco, has is small atmospheric and with great hospitality and greeted with a very warm and kind welcome. The times I've eaten the staff is prompt, and will grant you time to select your meal, and will serve you your ordered drink right on time. Me and my husband love going to Edo! They have exceptional Sushi! You would never expect it from a little place in Crest Hill. Yes the place could use a little decor update, but it is a hole in the wall type restaurant. I believe its charm is in the fact that it's out of the way and quaint. There are really not a lot of places to get Sushi out this way besides fast Americanized Sushi which is unfortunate. I used to live in Chicago so they were on every block. Edo also has amazing Beef, and Chicken teriyaki for those that aren't Sushi fans. I suggest starting out with Maybe a California , or Maki Roll if it's your first time. Love the Tuna sushi, or Sashimi and the Salad is crisp and fresh, with fresh ginger. You can call ahead if you want to have the Hibachi grill they do big parties. Everything about this restaurant is awesome. There are precious few sushi restaurants that can consistently deliver an outstanding experience, but Edo delivers each and every time I've gone. The real stars of Edo are the innovative rolls that they offer (which isn't to say the plain sushi isn't also delicious). My girlfriend and I always order the Flamingo Roll and the Grand Canyon Roll and, every now and then, we order the Lobster Roll. In addition to the regulars, we often try one of the many other delicious rolls that they offer. I cannot think of a single time that I've been disappointed by anything they have to offer. In addition to the sushi, they offer many Japanese soft drinks and sake. All of your food is served by some of the nicest wait-staff in the restaurant biz. If you're there for the first time, the owners may even want to take a picture of your party and hang it on the wall! I *highly* recommend Edo for those of you who love sushi. I always wanted to try this place - even before the sushi-craze. I would say this place is 3.5/5 stars. The service is very welcoming, the environment is kinda divey, yet somehow homey, and the sushi is ok - not the best I've tried. I ordered the "Spicy Y-Tail Roll", which is s yellow-tail roll with spicy sauce. Now when it comes to portion sizes - either they gave me a good healthy portion or they gave just skimped on the portions. Either way - it didn't really fill me up. I also ordered the Garlic Calamari appetizer and portion was only a small handful of calamari. The calamari was great - it just saw it disappear within a few swipes of the chopsticks. Overall, the sushi is not that bad. I guess there are off days with place (based on Spencer's review). I was surprised to see that they also have a couple of tables dedicated to teppanyaki cooking (Benihana-style cooking). I couldn't see myself eat over there since the place seemed empty. Maybe if someone invites me...i'll go. For you love birds out there - there is a "Edo Love Boat Special" which includes Gyoza, Edamame, 6 pieces of Sashimi, 10 pieces of a combination of the Spider Roll, Santa Fe Roll, and a California Roll, 2 soups, a 2 salads - for $65. We had a great dinner and experience at Edo. The show is great and the food very plentiful and delicious. The salad dressing is good, but a little sweet. The soup was delicious. The meat was flavored perfectly and cooked to perfection. The restaurant and cooks are very accommodating to kids. They understand when eating with a 4 and 5 year old you have to go fast, keep the fire coming, and occupy them all at the same time. We will be back. read more

It's OK... Not great. Wild Tuna in Naperville is better. So is Sushi Ya in Joliet. This is small inside and the service is not great. Sushi is OK to good. Lots of choices which is nice and they have a menu that tells you everything inside the rolls so there's no asking or guessing. I warn you many of the rolls are fried and those taste like old grease. I love Edo!! This place is located in a dumpy little strip mall in Crest hill, but the food is pretty good! I love the asparagus rolls, seaweed salad ( I stop often when I'm craving these), and sashimi. I can do without the rice. I just love the huge chunks of raw salmon. Started working a couple doors down from this resturaunt so I decided to give it a try with my husband. I normally go during lunch time, the resturaunt is quiet and relaxing. My husband ordered the teriyaki salmon and I ordered the sashimi lunch. My sashimi was fresh and his salmon was so delicious we started regularly coming during my lunch hours. By the 3rd time coming back, the waitress recognized us and automatically did the nit picky details I normally ask for, like asking for no ice in my water or giving me an extra straw for my baby. I'm extremely impressed with this establishment and will be returning! The only downfall is they made me learn that I am allergic to teriyaki with the amount of times I've ordered the teriyaki salmon! This place has gone downhill so bad. My husband really wanted to go here, mostly for nostalgia reasons (we used to go here when we were dating like 11 years ago) so we went for a early dinner. It was completely empty when we walked in. The people working there were not the same people that owned it back in the day. I'm assuming new ownership because the menu was different and the sushi was SO EXPENSIVE!!! Like $13-$15 a roll that had mostly rice, mayo and tiny portions of fish. It didn't taste fresh and I didn't appreciate the waitress staring at us as we ate. I was really hoping someone else would come so she would stop looking at us. This review will be based only on the food because I only got takeout. When I did pick it up I noticed that the place was empty. The chef and (maybe) his wife were cheerful and so friendly. It was really nice, but besides that the place felt very depressing. As for the sushi.. It was A-OK. Nothing special. I highly suggest to NOT get the shrimp tempura.
