    Cinnamon roll bread pudding.

I have to start this review with the dessert first. Cinnamon roll bread pudding is a delight to the senses. Truly delightful with a light texture and a great combinations of flavors bringing a wonderful finish to my meal. I had excellent service. My coffee cup never went empty. I love the look of this restaurant with beautiful bay windows overlooking the town. There is even a porch with umbrellas also overlooking the town. I had the frittata. It was made perfectly with fresh vegetables. The side of fresh fruit, crisp bacon were all presented well. I'm having the cinnamon roll bread pudding for dessert.

OMGosh. The fried banana pudding pie!!

What an amazing find! This was our first visit and it definitely won't be our last! The food was AMAZING, the service was fantastic (thank you, Melissa!), and the atmosphere was super cool. I got the chicken fried steak and it was arguably the best I have ever had...and I'm a CFS snob! It was seasoned well and perfectly crispy on the outside, and the meat was tender and definitely fresh and cooked to perfection. The skin-on mashed potatoes were buttery and creamy and equally as good. The Hub had the prime rib hash topped with beautiful eggs and he cleaned his plate! But...the dessert...just...WOW!! We had the fried banana pudding and it was not only beautiful in appearance, it was like Heaven in each bite. I'm so glad we stumbled on this place and can't wait to try everything on their menu!!

Their AMAZING banana pudding fried pie

What an amazing restaurant in small town Edom, Tx. We have stopped in before and enjoyed their unusual meat loaf and chopped steak. This time we tried their chicken fried steak and chicken piccata. My husband is picky about chicken fried steak and his first comment was "seasoned and cooked perfectly " best he has had in a long time. He also had the mashed potatoes, salad. The gravy on the steak was well seasoned and consistency was just right. My chicken piccata was wonderful... ponded thin with a great crust, lemon season sauce was just perfect. I also had their side rice which I really enjoyed. After all this food we decided to overindulge and get dessert. Husband got the cinnamon roll bread pudding , which he savored to the last bite. I had their "banana pudding fried pie", which husband had to assist in eating the last few bites. Oh my, I think it was one of the most unusual desserts I have had the pleasure of enjoying. It's hard to describe this amazing artwork. Think fried pie with banana pudding (with bananas) filling topped with nuts and an almost like heath bar crunch! Ok, next time, I am just ordering the banana pudding fried pie.. it's just unreal good. If you find yourself anywhere near Edom or Tyler take the drive to Edom Log Cabin and truly enjoy their exceptional food and friendly staff and their amazing Chef.

    Nice, cozy interior.

Chicken fried chicken was juicy and properly seasoned and the best we'd ever had. Ditto for the green beans and the okra. She wouldn't tell us what she puts in the green beans, but it's some combination of bacon grease and magic, I swear. The okra was fresh cut, fresh battered, fresh fried, unlike every other place I get it where you can tell it's out of a bag. Hot water cornbread was ah-mazing. I only wish I had honey to slather on it along with the butter. White gravy was fantastic, with just a hint of sweetness we couldn't quite put our finger on. Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were delicious, but also the only things I can say were on par with some of our other favorites. Prices are extremely reasonable. And the service is as down home and personal as you would expect at a place like Sylvia Mae's. But don't expect quick delivery of your food. Everything is made to order and it takes time, so settle in and be patient. We will definitely return here as often as we can when we are in the area.

All the breakfast food we've ordered has always been served fresh and it's very good. The coffee is nice and strong with a selection of creamer. Note: They have a cash price and a regular price for the meals. The service is always excellent and we are treated like friends. Loved our server today as well! A++ for her! Only change I would have is to cook the onions and jalapeño more before adding the eggs to scramble l, but that's something I'm sure they accommodate at time of ordering. As well as the steak omelette needed a bit more flavor to the egg. The steak was tender and delicious however. The pancakes are a bit dry but the taste is good. Large, satisfying meal portions with flavor and a comforting ambiance. We will continue to go back again and again and just ask for a couple of tweaks to be made if possible.

And whenever we take a drive like that, we make it our mission to find a highly rated local lunch spot. This one was on the way home and looked promising, so in we went. I will say this for Texas. Onion rings are everywhere here, far more than when I lived in California. I will happily take that as a win, because the heat for about nine months of the year is not my jam. Sadly, the onion rings were not listed as one of the many sides (so we couldn't get them as a side with our meal), but we ordered them as an appetizer ($8.99 I think) with blue cheese dressing. I am not a ranch girlie, and I stand by that choice. The blue cheese had huge chunks in it, which makes me think it might be house made (bonus point!). Now, the rings. I am firmly Team "Battered" Onion Ring over Team "Breaded", and these absolutely delivered on the team battered. They were almost chicken-fried, -- super craggly, crispy, and deeply satisfying. These were the star of the meal, so do yourself a favor and order them - but you need a friend to share them with, its a heavy portion. They also have great lunch specials, most around eleven dollars. I got the pot roast with two sides, refried beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. After indulging in the onion rings, I was not exactly starving, so I ended up with enough leftovers for another full meal. The pot roast was nicely shredded and tender, and the gravy was rich, flavorful, and worth every calorie. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, (he's obviously on a diet!), with fried okra and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was forgettable, but everything else on his plate was solid. Service was friendly and efficient, and this place definitely fills up at lunch, so plan accordingly. A very good roadside stop, and proof that sometimes the best meals happen when you are just out running errands.
