We were on a drive and looking for something to eat. We found Richie's and so glad we did. We were greeted and sat as soon as we walked in, our server Chase came right to us and took our drink orders. He ca,me back with our drinks and a bowl of chips and salsa for each of us. With it not being a Mexican restaurant we didn't expect the chips and salsa but so thankful for them. The salsa was delicious, it appeared to be made in house and tasted like no other salsa I have tried. We placed our order, Cheeseburger with fries and Patty Melt with onion rings. Both were large and delicious and both priced very reasonable. We plan to go back when we are in the area. All the staff were friendly, helpful and did their jobs wonderfully. read more

Very extensive menu with nice discounts for seniors. At its heart, it seems to believe it's a Mexican restaurant, delivering chips and one of the best red salsas ever complimentary as soon as you're seated! Most days I would give this establishment 4-5 stars, good food for a good price but today there was absolutely no communication between the staff and the customers. We've never been charged so much for food we didn't want. We asked for a simple substitution that we've gotten multiple times before and instead we weren't informed that it wasn't possible and we're billed for a whole meal that we didn't get, 4 sides of hashbrowns we didn't want and another meal without any choice. The waitress Serena acted like it wasn't her fault and that there was nothing that could be done. The French toast was HORRENDOUS, soggy, undercooked and left a horrible film and taste in your mouth. I have eaten at Richie's in Hawkins, Texas half a dozen times over the last couple of years and would not hesitate to go back. The service here is always quick and helpful, the food is always very good, and the prices are reasonable; lower than in the big city. The decor of the restautant is attractive and well planned, which is unusual for a small town independent restautant. The decor is attractive and well thought out without looking trashy, cheap, or thrown together. The menu here is fairly basic but the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen is very good. At my last visit, I had the 3 breakfast tacos with chorizo, egg, potato, and cheese. These were appropriately flavorful and a bit oily as expected with chorizo. The tortillas were slightly browned and crisped on the flat top. The combination of the flavorful meat, egg, potato, cheese, and crisp outside was amazing. Really, really tasty.! Quite an experience. I would easily get this again. In the past I've had the #1 breakfast platter with egg, bacon, toast, and hash browns. This is a solid dish for a good price. The bacon was thick and flavorful without being too gamey. The other standouts are the fried onion rings which are hand battered and fried. I've never had a bland frozen onion ring here. These are the real deal. I've also had a green salad with 'grilled' chicken, which was a chicken breast cooked on the flat top. While this is not grilled in the smoky sense, the chicken was flavorful, tender, and juicy. It was perfectly fine and well seasoned. I've had MUCH lesser chicken for 3 times the price. I would get this salad again for sure. in summary, food here is very good and the service is always great. The prices are reasonable. The restautrant dining area and bathrooms are clean. Whoever is running the kitchen does a very good job. I would easily eat here again. read more

If you are near the Holly Lake Ranch area then you must stop in and get a bite. They have a large menu of combined American and Mexican mix. The chicken fried steak was really good and tender I didn't need a knife to cut it. The wife got the quesadillas and they were stuffed to overflowing. If you are in the area then stop on in, you won't regret it. read more

My mom liked this place because they did not over season the catfish. I though they were a little high on their prices, but hey that's just the norm these days. Ordered a New York strip, chicken fried steak, and a taco/fajita salad to go. When I get there they inform me "we don't have any New York strips, you want something else? I'm pretty sure you got my number on caller Id, you could not have called me back and told me that. So I sub a carne asada, for the steak. Usually with a Mexican dish you get chips and salsa, nope. Gravy for the CFS, nope. The carne asada had so much gristle we gave about half to the dog. The fajita salad was literally a taco shell full of lettuce and olives with maybe two strips of meat about the size of my little finger with cheese half melted on top. Next time I'll just go to Red Dome instead. read more

We stopped in on a Sunday evening and the food was really good! I had the Tacos Mexicanos and my husband had a cheeseburger and onion rings. Highly recommend both. This cafe used to be located on Hwy 80 downtown Hawkins. It relocated to FM 14 at FM 2869 near Hawkins. The cafe has really upgraded its venue, as well as, menu. If you're Hungary for great home cooking, then you must try it. I promise you'll be hooked. May I suggest the grilled Pork Chops, cream potatoes, green fried okra and plenty of iced tea (free refills). read more
