There has been a major change in the past couple years since I was last there. Either a new cook, change in ingredients, or change in recipe. Chicken fried steak was stringy and tough, tasteless and the gravy didn't help. Hamburger same, very bland. Pecan pie was very disappointing. This place is probably worthy of the more country offers like CFS or hamburger steak, but don't go for the vaunted dinner rolls they bring, They're very doughy. These babies come out piping hot and fluffy... but with "butter spread" instead of real butter. My heart may have cracked a bit, but add some honey and salt to that spread? mild redemption! (come on Serve REAL butter for these beauties!!) Not in the mood for a full-on feast, I hit the "lighter appetites" menu (a.k.a., a kids' menu in disguise). I went for the chicken tenders with a side of sweet potato, and that potato? Cooked to absolute perfection and served with a cinnamon honey "butter"--another home run! I really wanted to love this restaurant but I felt it didn't live up to its hype. Dinner was so so(not good enough to go back). Our waitress seemed exceptionally distracted. I showed up and friends were already seated and took a very long time to even get a drink. I think the owner?at cash register said the waitress was brand brand new and unfortunately it showed. I ordered the chef salad with grilled chicken. A good portion of fresh, crispy vegetables and delicious grilled chicken pieces. Money well spent. My wife had the basic hamburger and fries. The burger was cooked as asked but lacked any unique flavor to take note of. The standard French fries were nondescript. My father in law ordered the mini-corn dogs. He was a bit disappointed as they were over cooked and the meat used in the dog didn't taste like angus beef. Likely a lessor, fattier choice of meat. Would we go back? Yes. Did we feel the good was worth the price? Yes. Would we order something else? Likely. Though we did not have time for dessert, I strongly suggest you check out their desserts on display. Fried squash, grapefruit sized fresh dinner rolls, and delicious sweet tea! We stopped for lunch while driving down I-20 and were pleasantly surprised at this down-home Grandma's house style food. My wife and I recently stayed in Van, Texas for a church retreat. We booked a hotel and thankfully there was this nice family country restaurant across street and in walking distance. It was a charming place with a homey, rustic atmosphere. The inside looked like the outside of a farmhouse, hence the name. It was certainly an experience. Our service was good, attentive and friendly. I ordered the fried catfish with mashed potatoes and corn and my wife ordered the 8 ounce bistro steak. Our food was delicious. Nothing fancy! Both plates were well cooked and seasoned just right. Not bland nor overwhelmingly savory. For dessert, we both shared a slice of lemon meringue pie. That was a little peculiar. The lemon portion was chunky. I believe they added bits of lemon which gave it texture I don't normally find in lemon meringue. The meringue was topped very high on the pie. I went with the chicken fried steak with cream gravy, mixed vegetables and a salad. They also serve you a homemade biscuit with honey. Let me say, the chicken fried steak was delicious! It's breaded and fried when you order it, and comes out piping hot. The salad and vegetables were good too. The hot roll was crazy good. Just to say that I did, I tried the coconut cream pie. When I visit Palm Springs which is at least six times a year my go to place for breakfast is the Grand Central Market once in awhile I go across the way maybe 50 yards to " The Farm " which has become one THE places to go for breakfast. Excellent atmosphere along with great service and fine food make it so. It was kind of a hidden gem but now the tourists make up more than 50 % of the trade simply because the place is really a great place with a great location. 4 plus star rating Enjoy ! read more

We stopped here on our family trip to Canton for First Monday. The service is good & the rolls were yummy. The atmosphere inside is charming, although there were lots of dirty tables around 4pm and that took away from the ambience a bit. The food was disappointing- all of our meals needed seasoning and were not quite what we expected. Many of the house-made pies have meringue mountains on top; 6 inches high or better. I had the Buttermilk Pecan pie, a marriage of my two favorite pies in the world. It was amazing. It was, if I'm honest, a little on the small-ish side. But I forgive that because.... The yeast rolls. OMG, the yeast rolls!!! So big! So fluffy! So soft and squishy! They are excellent! SO GOOD! And the servers will keep bringing them as long as you keep eating them. But, the downside: I filled up on them and I suppose, as problems go, that's a good one to have.
