Darren, the owner of Ed's Plumbing (Ed was his dad), is hands down the best plumber I've had the pleasure of dealing with in Napa Valley. I had a plumbing emergency on a Monday morning and after leaving messages with several plumbers, begging for a call back, I got Darren on the phone. Even though he was in the middle of running an errand, he must have heard the desperation in my voice because he showed up at my house in under 10 minutes! He assessed the problem, came up with a few alternatives, and thankfully was able to fix the broken shower pipe on his first try. I broke the gooseneck when trying to unscrew the old shower head in order to replace it with a new one. Darren was very creative getting the old broken pipe from behind the wall so he didn't have to bust up any tiles. He got the job done, installed my new shower head and all is well with the world again :) I'm very impressed with his responsiveness, kindness, knowledge and experience. I didn't hire Darren, but read on. When he diagnosed the issue (got on a call, sent photos, etc.), he spent the time to explain what might be happening and what he believes I need. And what I needed he doesn't have. That kind of honesty is unexpected in an industry that is utterly mysterious to some of us, and therefore opens the chance for unscrupulous service providers to exploit. I had a nasty drain clog. Over the past 20 years I have taken care of these issues by renting an electric snake myself. This time the only thing I ended up doing was making a mess and reminding myself that I am not that young anymore. Darren picked up on Saturday afternoon and left me know he would be here Monday morning. It was a stubborn clog and had to be attacked from two different spots to get the drain working efficiently again but it is working great again. There is a story about an ocean liner. The ship was stuck in port. They were losing $1000's of dollars a day. Several big company mechanic's were called in to fix it, wasting time AND MONEY. Finally they called this small independent mechanic. He came over with a small tool bag. After looking at the massive engine room , he opened the bag and took out a little silver hammer. He walked over to a certain area, tapped it and then instructed the captain to start the engines. With a mighty roar all the engines started. The president of the company was ecstatic! "Send me the bill young man and I'll personally take care of it" When the bill arrived, the president was shocked! $5,000! The president immediately wanted a breakdown of the expenses So he received the following 1 sm silver hammer $1.00 Knowing exactly where to use it $4,999 You get what you pay for. This guy is GOOD! By GOOD I don't mean he is the most expensive plumber, but that he is a one and done. Find it fix it. I called 20 minutes later he showed up, fixed the problem I paid , off he goes, friendly guy, case closed. read more

We had a sewer line issue on a Sunday, and he was reachable, and steered us the right direction to get the Napa Sanitation District involved. Had he come out to help resolve it, his prices per hour were more competitive than we were seeing at the "big" napa plumbing shops. Darren was super effective in tracking down and resolving the underlying issue, and solving it in the most productive way possible. He clearly understands the nuances of the underground / unseen routing of older downtown Napa properties, and quickly called the Napa Sanitation Department to come out so he could utilize them as a resource to help avoid / minimize the trial & error time wasting costly resolution methods that are all to common by most plumbers in trying to resolve blockages. Even thought the obstruction was way down line near the street, it was only evident when the high volume pumping from the washer was making the back up an issue. He was very efficient in locating and resolving the blockage without shooting blindly and risking further complications. He's the most insightful effective plumber I've ever encountered in trouble shooting and correcting a problem. read more
