This could have easliy been a 5 star review BUT... I called Ken Mays for 2 issues at my house. Leak under the kitchen sink and a running toilet. The intake person asked what brand the toilet was to ensure they had parts on the truck during service but no question about the sink. When Dario the tech arrived, he looked a the sink and said the hose/part needs to be ordered. He fixed the running toilet in about 30 mins. He said when he as the hose for the sink, it would take about 15 mins. I paid for a full hour ($195+ parts) and was surprised Ken Mays wants to charge me for another full hour when his tech didn't come with the part. The woman that I spoke to said she would speak with the owner if anything could be done. Here it is a week later, no call, nothing. Very disappointed not to hear back and at least give consideration to my job. I feel like they were trying to take advantage of me. I won't recommend this service. read more

Unfortunately, our 22 year old water heater decided it was time to"Check Out" yesterday. We have been using KM for many years and have always been pleased. I called after my cold shower yesterday morning to schedule an appointment. "Between 10 and 11 am tomorrow"? the gal asks. Perfect! I used this company to scope my main line to the sewer. My understanding was it would cost $180/ hour. As there was a clean out available, the plumber was there for less than an hour. They charged me $450. If there was a misunderstanding on my part, maybe I was partially at fault. However, the plumber assured me that I could see a video of the scoping on their cloud; just call the office for the url. I called the office and they said their plumber was responsible to provide that info. After leaving multiple messages for the plumber, He has not returned my call or texted me the url. read more

What a joke! We scheduled these folks for an emergency toilet repair at a commercial establishment. They made us wait three days and then they didn't turn up. No call, no apology, zip. We called and they claim that we were "not on the board." I returned from vacation to find the work had not been done and I called again to see if this still-an-emergency repair could be done right away. Nope, we have to wait three days. So much for good service. Plumbing issues tend to need immediate attention. Cavalier responses like "we can't do it this week" are ridiculous for a company of this size. read more

Ken Mays is the plumber to call in Napa. They have done frequent service calls at our church and have always come through. Recently, they replaced an ancient sewage pump for our gym, a complicated job way down in a deep hole. No complaints, cleaned up after themselves and it solved our problem. Good thing too, because a couple months later we had dozens of people sleepng in our gym after the quake. My experience with these guys was great, called and talked to Joe, they came over fixed a broken copper pipe due to freezing temp, every thing back to normal. Next day the same things happened in the same place, called them and they came right away and fixed it for me, Ryan was the name of the plumber, very friendly and experienced. Ryan from Ken Mayes Plumbing promptly and thoroughly investigated the concern, determined the cause of failure and replaced the bad part that was actually allowing some gas to escape. His attention to detail in troubleshooting the problem was meticulous. I have used Ken Mays Plumbing for many years. My last two experiences have been extremely disappointing. Most recently, the plumber was a no call, no show. I rescheduled. He arrived 3 days later, charged me $168 to attempt to unclog my kitchen drain (he asked to borrow my plunger) and then stuck some tool down the drain for which he charged me an extra $30.He then told me I needed to re-pipe my house to prevent future clogs and that would run about $5000. This, I did not do of course. The next day, the drain backed up again. I then called another company who for $130 came out, removed the clean out valve on the outside of the house, and snaked the pipes. KenMays did not even attempt to do either of the above. Very disappointing. The good news though is I have found a really reliable and competent plumber from Ed's Plumbing who I will call again in the future. read more

Called to schedule for a Hot water tank replacement. The lady assured me I should do a tank cleaning prior to replacing my 30-year-old hot water heater. I agreed and was quoted $160 flat rate for the service. Received my invoice saying I owe $326. My tank still needs replacing because the Flush didn't do anything. I went to run my dishwasher the night before New Years eve and when I went to get some water, I noticed that my cabinet under my sink was gushing water and that my kitchen sink rug was completely soaked...I quickly cleaned out under my sink and cleaned up all the water. It was too late to call for a service, but I called first thing this morning (Sunday, New Years eve!) and I had Manny out here to fix it within a few hours. Crooks. I called and asked for a service quote. Lady on the phone told me it was $114 an hour for labor. Two guys showed up at my house took one look and my shower and told me they could not fix it but would have to order parts. It would cost $$$$$. I said thank you and I would call them. They told me that would be $114. What? They didn't do anything. They said they couldn't fix the shower. They didn't even open it up, so they couldn't even be sure what was wrong. In other words, they were not hired yet! They said they understood my concern and would call the office. They called upline THREE different people. Got to the owner who said I had to pay up. NO WAY! They didn't DO ANYTHING. I didn't even get a legitimate service quote. I refused to sign paper. Owner JOE plumber called me and was horribly patronizing and rude. I thought he called to work things out, but he didn't even listen to my position, but interrupted me and told me that if I didn't pay up he would put a lien on my house and take me to court. I said, "You would put a lien on my house for $114?" He said, "WE DO IT ALL THE TIME." Yes he did. What kind of business is this? I see the business plan. Come over and make sure you get in the house. Don't do anything, but promise to come back later. Charge $114 now AND next time you come for as many times as it takes. If customer doesn't want to pay, put a lien on their house. That will teach em! read more
