The least professional business I have dealt with. Yes, his rates are reasonable, but he doesn't arrive as promised. The last experience that I had with him was when my hot water heater broke. He came in the morning, took the broken valve, asked me for a check to cover the replacement valve and said I would have hot water by the end of the day. As well, he promised to keep me updated, but that never happened. I never got hot water and I never received the valve. But, he cashed the check. Would not recommend. read more

I was completely ghosted by MJ Plumbing!!! Matt put in a wall heater for us. It stopped working right away and while he did come back to fix it, it took many texts to get him to reply. Then about 11 months later, it stopped working again. I text him asking if was still under warranty. He replied right away saying it was and to leave a door unlocked so that he could assess the problem. That was the last I heard from him. He never went to fix it. After many attempted texts to get get him to fix it, I had to call someone else because there was no heat. The new company said Matt shoved the heater into place which tweaked the heater. They also said that it had many extra screws holding it into place. They told me not to use it until they could figure out what to do. Well they determined it was unsafe and unusable. So I had to buy a whole new heater and pay for another install from the new company. When I reached out to Matt asking him to make it right with me, I got more of the same, which was no reply. Matt is epic. Service industry people just don't get any better. I had a non- emergency problem with my bathroom sink drain on the busiest day of the year. Matt assured me at 10:00AM that he would get to me today. He kept in touch and came , with my blessing, at 9:00PM. Fixed my sink with all upgraded parts, then made the mistake of asking my wife if there was anything more. She asked if he could make the bath shower head with more pressure. He did that improvement then fixed the kitchen sink faucet head that would not retract properly nor stay engaged tightly in the gooseneck. As he was saying goodbye at 10:40PM he insisted on tightening the screen door at the front door. CALL MATT. read more

I believe he serves the whole Napa Valley. It turns out my dad hired him several years ago to replace our water heater. Today he met me to clear out a clogged pipe at grandma's house. Not only did he take care of that and thoroughly check all the lines, he replaced a leaky old toilet valve, flushed out the water heater and gave me some tips on dealing with our vintage septic system while he was at it. I contacted MJ Plumbing and had Matt out in January. Matt was very professional, diagnosed my water flow issue and determined that the water supply company would need to address. He promised to come out and install a 'water pressure regulator' later that week, but that in the meantime I should shut off water to the house whenever I'm not home. Unfortunately it took six weeks of reminder phone calls to get Matt back out, which is quite frustrating given the level of inconvenience associated with turning off the water, which is why I'm giving MJ 3 stars instead of five. read more

I called Matt for a clogged plumbing system in my house in Calistoga. Everything was slow to drain - bath, toilet, kitchen sink... Matt came out, diagnosed it as a clog in the main drain and took care of it in a flash. He was right on time for our appointment, even called 30 minutes ahead of time to say he was on his way, and charged very reasonable rates for his service. He arrived, assessed the situation, cleaned up the water mess from the quake and scheduled a time to replace the damaged toilet with a new one. Matt started out fine. We discussed the job and went over pricing. I wrote out a check for $2500 as a deposit. Two weeks later, he said he needed more money---which was fine, as the job was expensive. We mailed a check and Matt claimed he did not get it. A week later we were again at the house and since he claimed not to have received the check, we wrote out another one, this time for $3500. Then we did a stupid thing and did not stop payment on the "missing" check (which had not, at that point, been cashed). A few days later, Matt texted me that the check had arrived "but I won't cash it, so you don't need to stop payment." Some two weeks later, Matt cashed the "missing" check without our permission, knowledge or without telling us. Then he went on "vacation" and refused to answer my texts or calls. Not only did he fraudulently cash a check (felony?), after saying he wouldn't but he also failed to properly complete the job---despite having all of our money and then some. The valve to the kitchen sink, which he replaced, leaks and we have to shut it off. The one station on our heater does not shut off and so now we have to shut the whole system down went we are not there otherwise the heater runs continuously. Some kind of wiring issue, according to Matt. But he didn't come and fix it when I tried to contact him. Once I contacted my attorney, Matt offered to come by but now I don't trust him. He clearly needs money desperately---that's why he illegally cashed the "missing" check. We will see him in court but please don't use this dishonest plumber. read more

Matt gave me an appointment the next dad and was on time. I told him about my toilet that was running, and that I had changed the flapper but still doesn't work right. He shortened the chain and adjusted it, which fixed the problem, but didn't charge me for it! I couldn't believe it! It is so refreshing to see that honest and giving people still exist.
