Additionally, they have a large staff of kind vet techs and front desk staff who are caring, understanding, and compassionate. Shout out to Sarah who has been great at talking to us about our oldest buddy and helping us understand what he's going through. We have had a very rough time with a new cat we adopted that created havoc for the rest of our cats and Hopewell has been a godsend in helping to ease our mind and give us advice. Their new office is very nice, with nice rooms for the animals and enough space to keep animals apart when waiting.

However, my first experience with the veterinarian left me questioning the practice. Winston was scheduled for his annual examination and vaccines, as well as boarding for the weekend. They administered all of his vaccines except the canine influenza and was to complete it before I picked him up on Monday. That was not done and I had to take him back to the clinic for the vaccine. During his annual exam, the veterinarian (Sarah) and I discussed Winston's use of Simparica Trio for heart worm, flea, and tick prevention. She told me to order it through Chewy and the prescription would be placed in his file. It was not. In fact, the clinic denied his refill citing that he required a heartworm test at an additional fee. I'm not sure why the veterinarian would 1) tell me his influenza vaccine would be given later and then it wasn't, 2) tell me to continue his Simparica and order it through Chewy when she knew Preston Animal Clinic would deny the prescription if he hadn't had a recent heartworm test, and 3) why not do the heartworm test during his annual exam? Having recently moved to Louisville from across the country, finding a new veterinarian isn't easy. This was not a good first impression of the clinic and I feel like inter-office communication is lacking.

They will take time to answer questions or talk through any concerns you may have with your pet, without making you feel like you're being rushed through the visit. They will also text or call as a follow up if there were any concerns at the appointment. For example, I had concerns about a spot on my dog's leg and they sent a couple follow up texts about a week apart to see how he was doing with the prescribed medication. Their waiting room is small and they remain busy so I also appreciate that they have you wait in your car, checking in via phone.

My issue recently is the older lady at the reception; she has NO empathy for certain clients and I seem to be one of them. I actually went to office on Sept 21/26. (I left a message evening prior). They sometimes don't call back right away so I went to their office. As soon as I walked into the office she said oh I just checked messages and was you going to call you. Were you though? Right away she said can't get you into see Dr Gough until next week. I know what he was prescribed before but she couldn't do anything until she spoke to Dr Gough (understandable as it was 2 years since he had been prescribed it - it was a water pill) She accused me of wanting me to put my dog first to get him in to see Dr. and that wasn't what I was asking or said. She also called me combative (I was upset over my dogs health) she became flustered and threw papers all over her desk. I told her she was actually being combative how she was talking to me and reacting. She said the Dr wouldn't be in until 1pm to she'll him if we could get some duretic pills and I said then I will come back and sit in lobby until I can speak with him. She raised her voice and said I told you that I would call you back once I spoke to him. I kept saying I will come back in afternoon. She did not like this response at all. I told her I don't trust her or to call me back. She just glared at me. She stood up to go in the back because there was another client coming in and no longer wanted to deal with me. I left. I asked my husband go in later that day to speak with Dr and she said Dr wouldn't be in until 2. He said once she knew that she was speaking with one of the owners of our dog; she was very friendly. She contacted my husband that afternoon to let him know that Dr Gough wouldn't give our dog any medicine/pills until he saw him which would be next week. I felt my dog couldn't wait until next week; he was not breathing properly because he has a heart murmur and they know that. The receptionist said she would put him on a cancellation list and call us. It is two days later and haven't heard a word. I did take him to URGENT care in Louisville that afternoon and he will get all his treatment, medicine and X-rays done there. They took him in for tests right away because they were worried about his breathing. They said I might have to wait a couple hours but wasn't the case because they were concerned it could be more serious. I got the same medicine from urgent care that I was requesting from Dr Gough's office. I WILL no longer deal with Dr Gough's office because of how she treated us. It's about the pet not how you feel about me. She had made unneeded comments previously when my dog was getting a needle and was upset and she happened to be in the back and said oh how dramatic. Not really called for in my opinion. The thing that bugged me the most was that she didn't even ask or confirm what was wrong with our dog when I walked into that office that day. No compassion or empathy whatsoever.
