He walked into the bathrooms I wanted renovated and asked at least 50 questions. We met again at the Kearny Mesa offices and again went over what I wanted and quality and types of fixtures and finishes I wanted. The next day I received a quotation, which included the total and payment schedule for the work I wanted. Eco was one of 4 total builders I had quote on the job. They sat exactly in the middle, but were the only ones to have a payment schedule after certain work was completed. The others wanted 1/2 up from and then the balance on the close. I felt like if at any point that work that was completed was incomplete, I would have some way of working with them to get it done completely and correctly. Besides Ben that were 3 other team members that coordinated my job. The first was Izabella, the designer and sourcer. Again after a few visits and email exchanges we settled on a design and began the purchase process. After all the materials were acquired, I met with Enrique the daily foreman and Derrick the project manager. The work is now complete and I am very happy. I don't have any real caveats, however, my home was build in 1968 and nothing was standard and a few surprises. Enrique and Izabella just looked for ways to solve issues as they popped up. I have two more possible renovations in the future and will call Eco Home Builders first.

While they work on hourly consult rates which is a refreshing option for many of us, on a recent project, my business was clearly not valued. Calls and emails were not returned for days or weeks, plans not sent as promised, all eventually resolved through my repeated follow-ups. The justified reason is that a bigger client was requiring all their time. Customer Service 101. I pay my invoices on time and without question. I will set aside the sales tax issue which required multiple emails to be resolved. The last straw was the requirement to pay for a 4th consult by a sharp deadline or my consult would be canceled. What choice did I have? I will find an interior design firm that will appreciate my business.

They are super knowledgeable and had a lot of great ideas that my husband and I hadn't even thought of. Their quote for the job was very reasonable- much cheaper than the other contractor we had come out to give us a bid. They also finished the job way ahead of schedule. Our kitchen turned out WAY more beautiful then we could have ever imagined! Everyone that comes over comments on how amazing our kitchen looks! First, my father was not trying to be the 'supervisor" of the project--he was simply making sure things were done correctly, which became necessary due to ongoing issues. The only delay came from mistakes made on their end, not ours they chose the engineer company and said that they have used them before. Ben denies this piece of information and as the owner of the company, he never came once to review anything in our project didn't even know there was a problem with the engineer or the way the trusses were misbuilt. Normally the general contractor is in charge of the whole project was what I was told. I never knew construction companies outsourced to other companies. but even if they outsource some of the work, they should still be responsible if they do something wrong and should absolutely never blame it on the client "me" who knows nothing about construction or engineering companies. When they refused to take responsibility, we had no choice but to bring in another contractor to fix their errors. As for the CSLB complaint, while they may not have found anything 'illegal,' that does not mean the experience was ethical or professional. If this company truly stands by their work, they wouldn't need to deflect blame Or write "karma is coming for me" I'm sharing my experience so others can make informed decisions."
