During bidding, we discussed solid wood cabinets and copper piping. When selections were finalized, cabinet options were more limited than we initially expected, and the contract allowed for "PEX or copper." Once we brought up our preference for copper, they were responsive and made the change. Overall, we're very pleased with the outcome and the professionalism of the team. Just be sure to clearly confirm material specifications in the contract from the start.

We had Allied Contracting install an Ella's Bubble walk-in tub, pocket doors on both our bathrooms,…read moreand attic access in our hallway. We could not be happier with the final result and we felt the cost of these task were quite reasonable. Ella's bubbles of New Jersey referred us to Allied Construction, saying they had worked with them before. John came out before we ordered the tub to scout the job. I ordered a tub without realizing that it was too large to fit through the door opening of the bathroom, and did not discover this until after it was delivered. Also, the drain and water supply on the tub were on the wrong side due to the location of the tub door and the toilet. John did not waver and said they would figure it out. Figure it out they did! They tore out the entire wall and vanity to get the very large tub in there. Carlos, the plumber who works for John, is a magician and did a beautiful job of rerouting the drainage and water supply and installing the tub with no room to speak of to work. I was really afraid at point that they would say this job was impossible! Carlos never gave up and in the end the installation was beautiful and the operation perfect! Since the bathroom wall was gone, John suggested we install a pocket door to replace the old 28 inch bathroom entry door that swung into the bathroom taking up valuable space. David and his brother Mr. E came in and installed the pocket door and re-did the electrical to move the light switch from the pocket door wall, wired up a new lighted medicine cabinet and did all the electrical and trim for the new tub. They did a magnificent job with all the electrical and trim. The bathroom is beautiful and looks new! We loved the pocket door and lighted medicine cabinet so much, we asked John to come back and do the same treatment to the master bathroom. We also wanted attic access added to our hallway, so that no one had to access through my wife's closet in the future. David and Mr. E came back along with David's son Randy and accomplished all these requests in 4 days! The prep work in our bedroom was really stepped up, with a lot of care as not to harm our bedroom furniture in any way! The results of the work were just as beautiful as the other job! The attic access is a pull down ladder in the hallway. David added a light and light switch up there and a large plywood platform for tools or storage. It turn out really cool! It was very unique to have a literal family of workers working on our house. They made us feel like part of their family while they were here! Their prep and clean up work was impeccable. John, the owner of Allied Construction is super laid back and very easy to work with hearing our plans and enhancing them further. We consider him to be a friend now and would not hesitate to have him and Allied do other projects for us in the future. We would highly recommend Allied Contracting for any project you have in mind!

I'm going to start this out by saying Willy is a hard-worker and a pleasant guy, but unfortunately…read morethose qualities don't mean you're good in business (don't be misled). There are serveral things that I believe warranted a 2-star review: 1. He used 1280 sqft of plywood for a 950 sqft apartment. Either he's terribly wasteful or he returned excess material to make some money. This came full circle when he came to my house for the final payout and had excess baseboard in his van from another job site and asked if I wanted to buy it so he didn't have to return it. 2. Loads of empty promises and unfinished work: a. He left the jobsite dirtier than he found it. He sanded the floors in order to prep the floor for primer and made no effort to cover any surfaces to prevent the dust from getting on them nor did he clean afterwords after telling me he would. b. Did little to no finish work (this is flooring 101--basic shit). He gave his word he would caulk where the stairs meet the wall and where the stair noses met the tops of the stairs....never happened. He said he would place a tub strip against the shower curb, again, didn't happen. He also didn't caulk the thresh hold going into a room with tile. c. Didn't hang any doors he had removed and lost screws...yes, they're so unprofessional that they don't remove the door by removing the pins. The unscrewed the hinge from the door...then lost the screws. I had to go buy screws 3. My house is very old--built in 1920. The sub-flooring had two holes each in its own corner in one of the rooms, which at one point was patched by a metal strip. I had pried these strips ups to see what was underneath, but unfortunately didn't put them back down before having Willy come lay my floor (I assumed him being a proposed professional, this wouldn't require me telling him how to do basic shit). He apparently just laid over top of these unsecured metal plates, because in both corners the flooring slopes up like a ramp. It's ridiculous. He tried to play it off as "some structural metal thing" that he couldn't do anything about that caused the slope. I know damn well what the cause is. 4. Terrible communicator. He never once during changes to the project made clear what the cost would be. It was so irritating, because I would point-blank ask him what it would cost me to do the extra things he was recommending, and couldn't get me a straight answer. My mistake was allowing him to continue the work before getting me the straight answer, but only because I needed it done ASAP. I should've gone with a true professional, not someone that treats it like a hustle by skimming a couple hundred off the top here and there, and leaving incomplete work. He may be good with straight-forward, simple jobs, but never hire him if you need to do any complex prep work....you'll end up with a much lighter wallet and sloppy work.

Sean showed up and was incredibly kind, knowledgeable and had us feeling optimistic about a resolution. It all went downhill from there, Sean was incredibly difficult to get ahold of for follow-ups and scheduling. I had to call the main number multiple times and often wait days to get a call back. However, we moved forward with a formal water test because of Sean's knowledge and direction on the process. The water test went as planned, they showed up and did a good job, helped us identify the intrusion, but we were promised a formal write-up and plan to fix. And that just never happened. I called multiple times, talking with Natasha, Kristen and Eric. Expressing the urgency of resolution (we had no AC or Washer Dryer until we fixed the intrusion and this was in the dead of summer). In fact, I never heard back from them until they followed up on payment (which was over the quote), and then of course they were very prompt to respond. I expressed my discontent with the service and my woes, and I was met with a matter of fact on this was the quote, please pay us. Oh, and some lame response about they sent the formal test results and repair plan previously (which they didn't). In fact, this was the same response I got over and over when trying to call Sean. "Oh, Sean emailed you or called you back." No he didn't.... So yea, knowledgeable technicians with horrible etiquette and terrible project management and customer service. How could I have 3 people managing our project and have it run this poorly. Please be warry of them, especially if you have an urgent issue. Definitely do not recommend.

Martin came in and gave us a perfectly draining shower pan and gorgeous tile installation. He was friendly every single encounter and such a hard worker. He even bonded with our little pup Lulu, she adored him! He even referred us to a place where we could have glass doors installed for much less than we had originally got quoted by another place. We highly recommend Martin.

Martin was very friendly and likeable when we first met. However, his estimated two weeks project…read morelasted over two months. He began to come to work and leave early. Some days he did not show at all. His daughter routinely texted excuses for him. His tiling work was extremely shoddy. He even agreed that his work was terrible and said he would fix it. After a few days, on the days he actually came to work, he walked out and never came back. The project was unfinished. His daughter texted that his knees hurt so much that he could not longer work. However, when he finally returned to pick up his abandoned tools, he told me he was working every day on other jobs. He actually ran along the sidewalk to collect his tools. He did not appear to have any pain or any type of a limp. He is unresponsive to texts, emails and calls. He totally abandoned the job and his work was so substandard that the shower, sinks and toilet were unusable. Do not trust this man, Martin Zumaya or his company, M-Z Tile. He will use you then abandon you as he did us and at least two clients before us.
