The low rating of my review is not reflective of the food, service, or price, but rather the integrity of the business. The food is decent, the price is fair, and the service is acceptable. My family goes here fairly regularly and one of the things my daughter enjoys is coloring the kids menu and hanging it up for a chance to win the contest. In August, we received a voicemail stating that she had won the coloring contest for a $20 gift card as we were on our way out of town to the Wisconsin Dells. We told our daughter about it and she was extremely excited. Earlier this month, we went to the restaurant and got our 6 year-old daughter excited telling her that she'd be buying us breakfast. She was so proud. We ordered our food and then told the waitress about the gift card we won. She then asked us "did you call to claim it?" We answered "no" because nowhere in the voicemail did it state that you needed to call to claim the prize. We were here to claim the prize. She said they must have given the prize to someone else since we didn't call. Wait, what? She told us this in front of our daughter who was so excited to have won and pay for our breakfast. She was very upset after the waitress told us they couldn't honor the gift card since we didn't call. I didn't want to make a scene in front of my daughter, so I let it go as to not upset her more. I am fortunate enough where $20 won't make me or break me. The issue is not with the money. The issue is with the lack of integrity of the business to honor the prize they awarded. They made no effort to make it right and did not discount our bill in any way or offer an apology for their mistake. If you can't honor your prizes, just don't have a contest. If just the food, price, and service are important to you, there is no reason you should not go here. It's a decent value for what you get. But, if integrity matters, steer clear. My girlfriend's friend recommended this place as a great spot to get brunch in the suburbs, near where I work, and Egg Beater Cafe did not disappoint! The area doesn't look like it has much going for it, but it does have this awesome restaurant, so that's an automatic upgrade for Lyons. We were asked if we wanted a table or a booth upon arriving, which I really appreciated, as a person who is extremely partial to booths. We waited a minute for them to clean up the booth's table and we were seated. I am usually one never to deviate from my savory brunch choices, but this time I decided to think outside the box by ordering the bacon pancakes. They came with three big delicious dollops of whipped cream, a big stack of three, fluffy pancakes, with crossed pieces of bacon. They absolutely delicious. I was in pancake heaven with butter, syrup, bacon, whipped cream, pancake, and bacon. My girlfriend also reported really liking her skillet, which came with two pancakes, too. What a deal! The service was perfect throughout our meal. I felt really well-attended-to the whole time, whether it was a quick check-in to see how we liked or food, filling our waters, or bringing syrup and butter. Our waitress was kind enough to run my girlfriend's card through the machine at the front and bring it back (even though there was a note at the top of our receipt stating, "Please pay at front :)"). We had a flawless experience here. For $7.99 each for brunch, you seriously cannot beat this place. I can't wait to come back in the future to try a bunch of other items. This is usually one of my go to breakfast spots, however I was recently disappointed in the service and the food. The servers are usually very attentive and welcoming, but they seemed off on my visit. They weren't really warm or friendly (except one), who was on her way out the door. It wasn't really packed when I went in with my children, so I couldn't grasp the disconnect. With that being said, is there a new chef?! I was highly upset with my food. I ordered just fries for my toddler which weren't burnt! Even my chilaques were burnt as well. For nearly 40.00 worth of food I could have probably just opted for McDonald's at a cheaper value. I think they need to take better pride in what they are serving and should ask "would I want to eat this?" I'm not saying I won't try them again, because they do have good food when made right... We have been going here for years, and watched it decline. The only waitress that is quality is Jen, and I don't even know if she works there anymore. Once you are inside, the food is excellent. Def don't write it off because of the looks on the exterior. I live in Gold Coast (right across from Water Tower Plaza) and I always come out to eat here when in town. My two favourite​ places are​ Wildberry and this place. Best brunch food around. Ideally, it does deserve 5 stars, but I knocked it down because of the false advertisement​ of the hours. I'm in town today and decided to go get come brunch here ( and was beyond excited) only to have been met with a closed​ restaurant. Hours are from 6am-3pm, yet the place was closed. I think I need to reserve the 5 star review for once I can try a little more of the menu, but this place is definitely on the way to getting it! We came here on a Sunday around 10am, and were surprised to see that it wasn't super busy, like some of the other places in the area. Egg beater has a slightly smaller menu than some of its competitors, but seemingly does everything really well. The service here was super cordial and friendly. I ordered their Egg Beater House Omelette, minus the cheese (doing a challenge thing, otherwise I'd be all over that feta!!), which was a 3 egg omelette with grilled chicken, tomato and spinach. This omelette wasn't as big as I've seen at other places, but it was perfectly cooked and perfectly loaded with all the ingredients that I loved it and ate it all up! I chose to upgrade from hash browns to fresh fruit ($1 up-charge... is this really necessary??), and was pleasantly surprised to see 4 nice slices of fruit on my plate, not the usual tiny bowl of anemic fruit salad. I ate all this up too. I opted for wheat toast over pancakes (this diet crap BLOWS), and they offer to butter the toast for you. The toast was lightly golden and also good. Service remained attentive throughout the whole meal, and our total (my guy got the american skillet which he enjoyed + coffee) was about $22. I would gladly return here. They have some amazing sounding french toast and other egg options I want to try!! read more

Breakfast menu has plenty of options for any appetite. Being a big fan of Greek chicken and potatoes I was happy to see the Grecian skillet. Whoever created this is a genius. First, let's get some key information out front so that I won't be implicated in some Yelp bribery scandal. I was offered a discount to try this place and review it on Yelp. No one suggested I give them a "good" review, more like "try us out, we'll make it worth your while". That said, lets move on with the review. This place is in a very atypical location. Most of 47th Street is industrial parks, dive bars and greasy spoons. This place is like a Cinderella trapped in a region loaded with scruffy establishments. I stopped by with my lady friend a few weeks ago attracted by the prospect of cheap food. The inside of the facility was clean and minimally decorated. One thing it did have a lot of was flat screen TV's. The drone from the television sets were mildly annoying. Service was quick, prompt and slightly absent minded. Waitresses were right on the spot but there were times three waitresses were trying to do the job of one. The result was that the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. (Would you like some more coffee? Ah no, I ordered tea.) Menu is pretty basic and there is plenty to choose from. My friend ordered some basic egg and meat combo and I ordered a Greek skillet. Both were fine, they were well prepared and was brought out in a reasonable time. While it was good, there was a lack of a "wow" factor. Don't get me wrong, this place offers good food at a good price and the service is good. I would glad to eat here again. But it just doesn't stand head and shoulders above other places I go to. I have to stick with Yelp Standards and say Egg Beaters is A-OK. Just not great. read more

This is, by far, my favorite breakfast joint in the area. The service is great, and all the waitresses couldn't be nicer. The food is really tasty and priced reasonably. The coffee is solid and they keep it coming. The restaurant is really nice inside, which is something you might overlook when driving past. It looks like it could be a "hole in the wall" from the outside. They obviously renovated recently. I've only seen the place in its current renovated form. I've been to breakfast at restaurants that think giving you a humongous portion makes the breakfast good. That couldn't be further from the truth. Egg Beater proves you can give reasonable portions of very flavorful food, and have the clientele go home happy. I really enjoy stopping in here for breakfast. My husband and I stumbled upon this gem this passed Saturday while looking for a place to grab some breakfast before our baby arrives. I'll be honest, it was in an industrial area and our bar wasn't set very high. We still went in and we are so happy we did! I think they're the best little spot in the area--better than the more popular places closer to us. Staff was extremely friendly. We arrived at about 10am and were promptly seated in a booth. The restaurant isn't that big but we managed to avoid the crowd (who didn't show up until about 10:30am). Our server was very nice and attentive. Our meal came out quickly. My husband ordered the jalapeño skillet and had nothing but great things to say about it. He liked the choice of chorizo (which can be hit or miss in other places--he's particular). I ordered eggs, hash browns, and sausage links---I can't eat like I used to since I'm 9 months pregnant. I loved the fact that the hash browns were actually brown and crispy as opposed to the sad smushy lump you might get at other places. All in all, it was a great experience and we hope to come back after our little one arrives. Bonus---they have a sign on their door saying they welcome breastfeeding. It made me so happy to see our area representing our right to feed our babies in public. A++ in my book! read more

I have been past this place several times on my way to another eatery in the area and after reading all the four and five stat reviews I thought it was worth a try. Enter the place at 7:30 am and I'm the only customer there and they had more employees than customers. My waitress seemed very pleasant and attentive to my table. The restaurant has minimally decorated and clean looking. They have several T.V.'s mounted around the dining room. Opted for a skillet breakfast with a side of toast. While tasting fairly decent, the ingredients were finely chopped, the ham was almost shredded looking. This with the gravy made for a very liquid skillet. The thing I thought was weird is that they use a brush to apply the butter to the toast, I don't know seeing that image made my think that my toast tasted like machine oil. Coffee and skillet was $10.50 before tip, a bit pricey for breakfast in this area and type of restuarant. read more
